Tee up 'Tom's Diner' and 'Can't Get You Outta My Head," two more AMK collaborations with other German bands. All incredible, all surprising vocal combinations, and all entirely joyful, beautiful, creative celebrations of making music together.
I hate when bands just do a cover.... Holy cow! AMK took the original and elevated and added and made it their own. Thank you so much for sharing, that was so cool
I’m from Germany and usually i don’t appreciate much talking before the reaction but yours was really good research and background information, I didn’t even know. And your reaction was great too! Much appreciated!
"Tom´s Diner" is an absolutely sweet and charming cover, 'Can't Get You Outta My Head" is a masterpiece. But I recommend one piece of the "Proberaum Session", where they sing in german and bring their songwriting to a whole new level while staying down to earth.
So glad you discovered AMK, they should be right up your alley, they are what a musician should be: They just love music, they experiment with other people many of these music videos are just spontaneous joining of musician and no matter who they meet it‘s hit quality even though they never put it on an album. More over you find many more version of their songs online that are not the studio album. They make bare version just outside, or big ones with all their musician friends in their rehearsal room. I highly recommend you, Doug, to listen to one of their „Proberaum Session“ (rehearsal room session) - even if it‘s outside this channel and „just“ for your own pleasure at home. „Ausgehen“ and „Ich geh heut nicht mehr tanzen“ are super in their Proberaum Session, but if you prefer English there are tons of covers with other musicians, most „Toms Diner“ went viral for Hennings voice and „Can‘t get you out of my head“ has a unique arrangement meant as the basically have all instruments doubled as it‘s two full bands playing together. A LOT to discover with AMK …
I highly recommend "Tom's Diner" by AMK and "Barfuß am Klavier" by Henning May. You will love it, I'm sure. And not to forget their Proberaum sessions, esp. the one with Natalie Findlay - legendary! Kind regards from Germany.
I like that you played the original, there really a lot who’ve never heard it, but this cover is fantastic! I really love AMK! These boys are mad talented!
The “butt piano” and Sting’s chuckle immediately afterward was actually a studio gaffe. The engineer began rolling tape to record Sting’s vocal as he was absently tinkling on the piano while he was waiting to record, and he laughed when he realized that his mic was live. When they listened back to the tape afterward, they liked the gaffe and left it in.
My fav AMK vids are before they got famous and they were busking a lot: I am easy, Hangin' around (very cool impro), One day, Look on the bright side, Sometimes I like to lie, etc.
You have to look into "cant get you out of my head" from annemaykantereit! Or if you'd like to get into their German stuff I'd recommend "ich geh heut nicht mehr tanzen - Proberaum Session". Probably the best german music when it comes to modern Bands. Can't recommend it enough!
Bought the Plice version when it was released...still have my vinyl 45...they arrived at the period where the first punk wave was petty much over and the whole post punk thing was taking off..Loved the early Police singles..The cover is great...will have to check out more of their material. Keep on making engaging RUclips content Doug...much love from an ageing Brit.
OMG. Was listening to some of AMK respectively reaction to them on YT and thought of your channel. What you would say about the band. And here you are reacting to them. Amazing. Usually I'm a metalhead, but life is boring if you don't keep an open mind to other genres, right. With love from Germany ❤🤘🏻
Of course, I am aware of the two bands, being German myself, but this has eluded me completely. Thanks for opening up a whole new avenue to explore. You just made my day, big time.
I hope you'll check out some of their original music, even if it's in German. "Ich geh heut nicht mehr tanzen" in the live version "Proberaum Session" is a great place to start.
another german viewer happy you found AMK :D have been watching your videos for a while now, I really enjoy your music theory insight and the care with which you prepare your reactions! others have pointed out more great covers by AMK, but I wanted to suggest to listen to one of their originals (despite those usually being in german)! I highly recommend AnnenMayKantereit - "Ich geh heut nicht mehr tanzen (Proberaum Session)" - it's a recording of a live-session, I just love that version of the song
I noticed the pitchy spots, as well, but they struck me as being deliberately "blue" rather than as errors. First tiem hearing AMK for me, too, and will definitely be looking for more.
I was reluctant to hear than as the police are a beloved band from my teen years. So to do a cover of them would be blasphemous! Lol. But bravo on this cover. They did their own thing and it was great. Cheers
Yeah, AMK is a great band! Their own songs are in german language, but they always have fun to do some covers ... most of them are actually live recorded, true. Give another cover a view/look: AMK's "Tom's Diner" feat. GIANT ROCKS.
Your reaction/comparison was really on point. Like you hear that they are live and not prerecorded how other "singers" believed it as they react to the video. And please do more of AMK it's a month now and you unfortunately haven't touched another one
That was very Kool! I'm adding that alternative version to my phone playlist. And I don't have The Police's version. It never really did much for me, and I LOVE The Police. Stewart is THE BEST drummer/percussionist I've ever heard. Time for you to react to more of The Police, Dr. "The Bed's Too Big Without You" and "Driven To Tears" are two of my favorites and among their lesser-known songs.
Check out "Ich geh heute nicht mehr tanzen- I'm not going dancing today " by AMK. Best take in the session room. There's a video with translated lyrics. With love from Germany. ❤
I tend to think of techno-pop and electronic music when I think of German contemporary music, Scorpions not withstanding. Probably a stereotype. I've never heard of either of these groups either. Definitely an interesting take on the song, and something I'd have never heard otherwise. Glad I discovered your channel.
This (AMK's version) has a lot of the raw sound of the 1960's before recording technologies that could mix separately recorded tracks came along. You could also say it sounds much like the garage bands of the era. I hope this represents a trend since we really need to get back to the basics and I don't mean just doing covers of old songs.
I've read it already here in the comments, just to point at it once more: they did some more fabulous collaborations. Tom's Diner and Can't get you out of my head...!!
Amk is wonderful. Henning May's boice is fab. He's the raspy deep rich baritone. Milky Chance is the other singer and or band. AMK is huge in Europe. Other great covers are COME TOGETHER, I'M ON FIRE, THE NEEDLE AND THE DAMAGE DONE, FOREVER YOUNG AND AMY WINEHOUSE'S VALERIE a duet with Natalie Findley. They have alot of originals in English that you will like: DONT SAY A WORD, WAITING, LEAVIN, YOUR DOOR AND JAMES (AT THE LIVE IN BERLIN CONCERT.
Thanx so much Megan and Doug!!! That was an amazing cover of Roxanne by AMK!! Another original / cover I think you should listen and react to is Somewhere Over The Rainbow. The original by Judy Garland and then the cover by Toby Swann.
No need to react to it, but I would highly recommend giving Sting's solo performance of Roxanne (and Message in a Bottle) from The Secret Policeman's Other Ball a watch and listen.
Dear Doug, you have not even scratched the surface of Germany's great bands and solo artists. I undestand, most of them sing German or even in a dialect even a German has a hard time to understand :) Oh, and also you should check for a few more from artists from Austria. There is a lot you will like. Enjoy :) A few suggestions (just the bands' and artists' names: BAP (you should chose "Rockpalast Live" versions), more AnnenMayKantereit (dont shorten their name, you rarely do that to EmersonLakeandPalmer, don't you?), Tocotronic, Die Toten Hosen, Die Fantastischen Vier (Fanta Vier), Fury in the Slaughterhouse, Wolfgang Ambros, Marius Müller Westernhagen (one guy), Kraftwerk, In Extremo, Unheilig, Udo Lindenberg, LaBrassBanda (live), and a few dozen more, haha. And I did not even start on the 70s "Krautrock" bands (the German ProgRock version). Dive deep, and be surprised !
Since Roxanne was used in the musical Moulin Rouge for a tango there have been numerous covers of Roxanne as the backbone of a tango. It must be one of the most covered Police songs as a result.
Sting is a very underrated bass player. His lines throughout his career while not a Getty or a squire are still fun to play and creative. Oh yeah and he’s singing while doing it.
Another great cover as usual ,Hey Doug your next one should be Nazareth's " Hair of the Dog" another non U.S. band ,would like to see your reaction. I am 65 & it's one of my favorites.
Hey Doug really love your channel, but do you think you could react to spirt crusher by death? I have never seen death on your channel before. Thank you!
It (the AMK/Milky Chance cover) somehow has a vibe that strikes me as similar to Ren / The Big Push... Is that just me? Definitely going to go check them out, too.
I think, Ren and the Big Push were influenced by AMK,. Ren mentioned that in an interview (BP?). They started as buskers too, doing the first one take musicvideos.
I'd love to hear you break down Jacob Collier and explain why people like Hans Zimmer say that he's orders of magnitude beyond genius. I don't have the ear or music theory background to grasp all of what he's doing. I got to experience his audience choir live a few weeks ago and it blew my mind. A spontaneous choir of 8,000 voices...absolute magic.
Hello Doug!! I've discovered your channel a couple of days ago and I've been binge watching your reactions on 60s, 70s and 80s rock!! Love them all. Wanted to ask you if you were ever considering on checking out some non-english music! I am personally from Argentina and our prog rock deserves some listening haha!! I'll give you some tunes/albums for you: La Grasa de las Capitales - Serú Girán / Peperina - Serú Girán / El Jardín de los Presentes - Invisibles. These are some of the most recognized argentinian artists in their bands (Charly García in Serú Girán and Luís Alberto Spinetta in Invisible) which have an outstanding solo carrers as well. Hope you read this and enjoy discovering !!! Kind regards.
Nice reactvid! I appreciate your passion and professionalty! Pls Do sum more AMKsongs like Tom'sDiner or Ichgehheutnichtmehrtanzen! SecretHint HennigMay in KIZ's Hurra, dieseWeltgehtunter!
European views on prostitution are much more open than here in the US. It's a job and many countries have legalized brothels so I doubt the topic of prostitution was a reason for poor sales. Just my opinion. Great cover too!!
You have many videos so I don’t know if you’ve seen Bruce Springsteen’s Rosealita live video. I would love to see your reaction. I really love your physical expression when you get into the song.
Thanks from germany for this reaction. ☺ You maybe like to try out out: AMK cover of "Valerie" with Natalie Findlay, AMK cover "Toxic" from Britney Spears, AMK cover "Bang Bang" with Amili, AMK cover with Parcels "Cant get you out of my head" from kylie minogue, AMK cover with Giant Rooks "Toms Diner" from Suzanne Vega, just to name a few.You might be surprised by they are able to made all of this songs their own and in some ways maybe not better but unique in an unexpected way. Have fun with your journey. ☺
Delightful and competent reaction, Doug! Maybe you would like to do some more reactions to AMK. Recommendation: If you look for their "Proberaum Sessions", you can't go wrong.
Last night I was driving home when I was pulled over by a cop. He asked me if I had a police record. Apparently ‘Roxanne’ wasn’t the answer he wanted to hear. My court date is in a couple of weeks….
Doug, if you reacted to 'Bring on the Night' by the Police, you'd be the first one I've ever seen. A good bookend to this is Dire Straits 'Follow Me Home'. And dammit, it's about time to hear some Squirrel Nut Zippers ('Hell') and Cake ('Friend is a Four Letter Word'). Thank me later, brother.
I hated this song for a couple of decades, I would jump over things to get to the radio to turn it off, then one day it was like a switch flipped and it became one of my all time favorites.
Is the transposition and pulling back on the rhythm section really the only thing happening in the chorus? To me the chords felt different, but my hearing is not that fine.
Tee up 'Tom's Diner' and 'Can't Get You Outta My Head," two more AMK collaborations with other German bands. All incredible, all surprising vocal combinations, and all entirely joyful, beautiful, creative celebrations of making music together.
Tom's Diner is a really good one.
And then some original with 'Ausgehen (Proberaum Session)'
Parcels are originally from Australia but they are based in Berlin right now. Both covers are amazing indeed
@@DennisOtt the live version of 'Ausgehen' in cologne is much more better!
And the 'Toms Diner (Cover)' is very important!
You were not expected this!
Can't forget toxic
I hate when bands just do a cover.... Holy cow! AMK took the original and elevated and added and made it their own. Thank you so much for sharing, that was so cool
I’m from Germany and usually i don’t appreciate much talking before the reaction but yours was really good research and background information, I didn’t even know.
And your reaction was great too! Much appreciated!
Please more AMK, covers and originals are fantastic.
Nice to have you listening to a german band . Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 😊
He did react to Rammstein. Twice. 🤘🏻
"Tom´s Diner" is an absolutely sweet and charming cover, 'Can't Get You Outta My Head" is a masterpiece. But I recommend one piece of the "Proberaum Session", where they sing in german and bring their songwriting to a whole new level while staying down to earth.
Das sind wahre Worte. Amen
Wow! This sound from the old factory building which the sound of this piece is fitted to is so good!
So glad you discovered AMK, they should be right up your alley, they are what a musician should be: They just love music, they experiment with other people many of these music videos are just spontaneous joining of musician and no matter who they meet it‘s hit quality even though they never put it on an album. AMK did an amazing job covering this classic tune. Great vibe.
AMK's cover of Toms Diner is fascinating! And their absolute banger of a ballad "Barfuß am Klavier" is just beautiful!
I'm loving the AMK version. That is really cool!
I highly recommend "Tom's Diner" by AMK and "Barfuß am Klavier" by Henning May. You will love it, I'm sure. And not to forget their Proberaum sessions, esp. the one with Natalie Findlay - legendary! Kind regards from Germany.
Thanks so lot for this great song. I love The Police. And I never heard this version from AMK. Greetings from Berlin 🎈
Clever the singers using that empty space with natural reverb and echo! ❤
I like that you played the original, there really a lot who’ve never heard it, but this cover is fantastic! I really love AMK! These boys are mad talented!
The “butt piano” and Sting’s chuckle immediately afterward was actually a studio gaffe. When they listened back to the tape afterward, they liked the gaffe and left it in.
He actually accidentally fell backwards and sat on the keyboard, hence "butt".
The cover is truly unplugged 🙂 Sounds great.
Except for the fact they were truly plugged in.... though.
... The whole "amplifiers behind them with the guitars plugged in", part.
My fav AMK vids are before they got famous and they were busking a lot: I am easy, Hangin' around (very cool impro), One day, Look on the bright side, Sometimes I like to lie, etc.

This!
Loved your reaction and you have to hear "Can't get you out of my head" and "Ich will heut nicht mehr tanzen" Proberaum Session.
LOVE your reaction❣❣❣
Yes, my favourite cover of them 🫶 Please go on with AMK

Well, they certainly made it in a way I wasn't expecting. More like an Unplugged version of the original. And it still works and sounds great.
Great cover. I don't know if I really like it but they do some interesting things. I'm intrigued.
Go for "can't get you out of my head!!
What a fantastic reaction!!!! I had soooo much fun watching you! HAVE to check out your channel now! Am very curious about it :)

You don't have to turn on the red light Doug😮
Yes please look into more music of AMK ❤ Tom's Diner is great, also Valerie 😊 and please look into their german songs!
Another great cover as usual ,Hey Doug your next one should be Nazareth's " Hair of the Dog" another non U.S. band ,would like to see your reaction. I am 65 & it's one of my favorites.
They trust the chorus to play in the head of the listener
Phenomenal band. Check out Rick Beato's interviews with each of the three members. Their process was fascinating.
Ghost in the Machine has some great tunes to hear man, Doug.
Hey Doug really love your channel, but do you think you could react to spirt crusher by death? I have never seen death on your channel before. Thank you!
Sting's "Shape Of My Heart" would be worth your time Doug.

The song that invented the butt dial.
You should check some AMK originals. I would recomanded their live or Proberaum sessions.
I believe Roxanne was originally written as a Bossa Nova, was said by Copeland or Sting in a recent-ish interview
Wow! Better than Police. I love it!

Analyze "What a Fool Believes" by The Doobie Brothers. I've heard there are SO many fast chord changes in that song.
Sting told me this song was written about a disillusioned photography darkroom technician.
Please react to more of AMK! Especially Tom'
s Diner and Can't get you out of my head! You will love it!
Try the AMK's Tom's Diner cover with Giant Rooks. 150+ million views. Henning's last name is pronounced like my.
