  • Queen Máxima is in Almere Haven, a visit dedicated to the residents of the district, with attention to the initiatives to increase the connection between neighbors and to how residents deal with the challenges in the areas of quality of life, equality of opportunity and loneliness.
About 50 years ago, the province of Flevoland didn’t exist: it was just water. Now, ‘Almere Harbor’ is the oldest part of the city Almere, the first citizens moved to here in 1976. Máxima paid an extensive visit to many places in the city to talk about the quality of life here. Elder people feel loneliness, some of them started an initiative for needlework groups. Máxima tried to crochet but she seems to do it wrong…
At De Meergronden, the oldest secondary school in Almere, Máxima learns about activities for children in the neighborhood, like cooking classes, jewelry making and sports. Later she visits arts projects in school.
At Senior Live, Máxima joins with elderly people who get here with their difficulties in computers and cellphones, like the woman who is here to install dropbox.
While walking, many young people ask her for a selfie. (“I’ll never wash my hands again”)
At the community center, Máxima speaks to people from the neighborhood about difficulties (like criminality and cleanliness). Máxima says: sometimes it needs a Queen to get people around one table to get things done.
Máxima receives a gripper to clean the streets.
When she’s speaking to the people after the group picture: “I have got a great impression of a town within the city. What would happen when you weren’t here?”
