    Recently got rid of my Defender P400 HSE. Bought a 2023 GX 460. Every time I get in, I never get concerned about reliability and things working. It’s a bit dated, but an awesome car. Built in the Tahara plant in Japan. Arguably, the highest quality auto manufacturing plant in the world. Great video Ben!

    I bought my wife a 2023 GX460 blackline and it has been stellar with our 1 year old. Most reliable car we've ever owned. These cars hold their value well and you will not be disappointed until you go to the pump! Horrible gas milage but that's the reliability tax you pay with these. We previously had an 2018 X5 that started having issues.

    You can't go wrong with either a Toyota or a Lexus. If you plan to keep it long-term, might I suggest going with one that has a naturally aspirated engine (Avoid Turbos). Note that some models will require premium fuel, while others only require 87 octane (regular). These vehicles are near bullet-proof, with only regular maintenance.

    The GX actually does have a locking diff. It’s a button in front of the drivers right knee.
    Also, there’s no A/C button…it’s in the infotainment and it’s kind of a pain, but I still love the GX asa whole.

    • @gdub350

    I’ve owned about 6 GX’s and i’m still on my 2020 GX. I love these cars and it has never left me stranded and I used to own range rover/land rover.
    I would like the LX but the problem with that one is that the two screens is wacky and on my test drive I just didn’t like it. It reminded me of an Infiniti

    • @Slythey
      @Slythey 7 месяцев назад

      Agreed on the 2 screens, 100%. For a new model, it feels like the screens are a tacked on afterthought; manufacturers were upfitting existing models that were never designed for touchscreens with the same tacked on screen nearly 10 years ago. Lexus doing it on a brand new, $100k+ vehicle feels inexcusable. The Landcruiser 300, which the LX is based on, has an integrated touchscreen, so I don't know why the LX had to deviate from that.

    • @Slythey
      @Slythey 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@TheAndersonOBrien the new GX definitely feels like it lost a lot of it's charm. The reduced physical controls that are walled into the touchscreen are a big downgrade from my view. Going from a 15+ year old vehicle design to a more modern one shouldn't make you feel like you're making concessions when it comes to ergonomics and controls.

    • @Slythey
      @Slythey 7 месяцев назад

      @@Cleaning_Hero no, it was mostly responsive/no complaints there. It is however a jumbled mess and doesn't do splitscreen options well. The volume button is poorly located and so is the pushbutton start (hard to reach even at 6'2). In addition the new model will have turbos and that combined with a smaller engine will also make it less reliable.
    Colors you can always ask the delership to do a “Dealer trade” for a different color model from somewhere else in the country if your wife doesn’t like the red interior. I love it personally and my wife loves them.

    Consideration, as she noted- the "old" GX has a really really irritating, for many people, side opening rear gate.... and to the wrong side for Left Hand Drive markets IE US, Canada, most of Europe, Etc. That is, it opens TO the curb, therefore blocking you from the curb access (loading, etc).... also versus a regular hatch makes opening in tight parking spots problematic. Otherwise, great vehicle. The new GX will have a regular hatch.

I worked for a GM.Toyota, Nissan and Chrysler for 12 years owned by the same Dealership. I brought home different brands to let the wife decide. The one I different bring home was a Jeep Grand Cherokee. She continues to only wants a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a V6. Her present vehicle is a late model 2021 ordered by her in late 2021. It's a Trailhawk with all the options. This year I had her test drive the following- Jaguar F Pace, Toyota 4 Runner. Nissan, GM, Fords and even Mercedes. She really wants a new 2024-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk but not a 4Xe. Pricepoint, ride quality, and reliability- the GX460 by miles. The GX550 loses most of it's buttons and physical controls (cost cutting to keep price close to outgoing model, which I get) and buries them in the touchscreen. I would take the LX600 over the GX550 for the physical controls alone, but the LX feels a bit overpriced for what it is; it lacks quite a few luxury features that all of the competition has at that 6 figure+ pricepoint. I don't NEED massage seats or a panoramic sunroof, but things like that missing from a vehicle asking over $100,000 makes me question the price. The LX also has a jumbled mess for a center stack and finnicky capacitive touch steering wheel buttons while the ride quality isn't nearly as good as the outgoing LX570. The GX460 rides better than the LX600.

      It does. I actually traded my 2023 LX600 back down to a 2023 GX460 and the ride, handling, legroom, etc are massively nicer than the LX. It was always unsettled, vibrating and handled sloppily, unless in sport mode. Was a very strange big yet tiny inside truck to try and live with. The GX just goes down the road far more smoothly & crisply.

    If you want to take a risk since it is so new and a new brand you could get an Ineos grenadier, but then it couldn’t be worse then the Land Rover even though Ineos is using the BMW straight 6 and ZF 8 speeds which both are reliable, but the GX 460 will definitely be reliable, but if you could wait I would still try to find a GX 550 in a month or two when they come out

    NO 😶, get a different Land Rover or another one. Try a 2017 Range Rover Sport if you don’t mind used, preferably the V8. But they’re plenty of the 6’s available. 2017 is the best year to buy used IMO.🤫

    Swapping Lexus/Toyota over a Land Rover? Why is this even a debate?

    If you already have a GX550 on order, I assume you’ll get it in under a year. If you have a spare vehicle that’s safe, then I don’t see the need for the 460 because you’d have a spare vehicle if/when the Defender is not available to drive, unless you don’t think the Defender is safe for your family. If you worry about it breaking down in dangerous driving situations, I’d trade it for something much less expensive to get you by safely until you get the 460. But if you want it, that’s a different story. Get it. Maybe the TX, or RX? Highlander? I prefer a Grand Cherokee V8 with air suspension for a daily cruiser. Haven’t had major issues with mine and have never broken down. It’s a 2011, going on 5 or 6 years owning it. Bought it with 60K, now it has 121K, and the same powertrain / drivetrain is in the WL models. Jeeps are fine to own up to 100K - 130K, so you shouldn’t have to worry about any issues with them and even then it’s just little things. That’s been my experience. Who knows, maybe it will die at 150K, which is premature failure to me, but it still drives like a new vehicle and looks like one. Everything works. No leaks. It’s still and smooth at idle. Very composed. I don’t think you’ll put 100K on one in a year, so it might be worth looking into. Besides Jeep’s MaxCare MOPAR warranty is a nearly bumper-to-bumper policy that covers the vehicle up to 8 years / 125,000 miles. Buying one from a dealer that has maintained an A+ rating with the BBB can make a big difference with dealership experiences, when buying and when servicing. You probably know that, though. Or Buy a higher-in-demand Toyota so your depreciation is minimized. Highlander, rav4, 4Runner, etc.

    I know it may be in part due to the squeaky wheel effect, but man it sure seems like JLR's rep for poor reliability is well earned.
