    I’m 70-year-old musician… I started listening to Roy in the early 70’s fell in love with his Multi faceted style of playing
    This man, right here got me hooked on telecasters , and open my eyes and ears to what a telecaster can do musically…
    I wish he could’ve been with us for many more years…❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️

      Same story. I'm 68. I sat watching him on PBS with my mom at 15 years old. Mom said I'll bet you'd like to play guitar after watching him... I said, yes! A year later, my folks bought my first guitar for me on my 16th birthday and I'm still playing and will till my dying day. I've owned dozens of guitars throughout the years and it's all because of Roy B.

    This is the song that made me buy a fender telecaster. The changes from country blues picking to jazzy bliss was surprising on my first listen. So glad that this was my introduction to an amazing guitarist.

    This could possibly be the best little jam I have ever heard. I listen to it once a week. I still cannot fully understand what is going on here and I have been playing the
    guitar for 35 yrs.

      Dont feel bad brother some it takes a bit longer to get what he is doing. Only played for 28 and I barely gey what he is doing w circular strumming his very advanced pick attack as well as sweeps arpeggios and jazz chords n runs. Music is the landscape you are the brush, Jimi would've dig Roy Buchanan he was a master in his own rights but not polished and ported like our cheesy industry wants. RIP Roy your style was endless your music is forever. Thats the beauty of being a true musician and writing your own material, paint away.... Your mind and fingers are the only thing that holds us all back.

      its a cool jam...i pick up little bits..a bar here and half a bar there...then just play with the idea and morph it for fun/relaxation...it is kind of a great master class encyclopedia. so many ideas in each part...and so much mastery in each idea...and genius delivery of it all...amazing

    • @itchykami
      @itchykami 4 года назад +5

      @@carlsmith1263 I think with the circle strumming, since his guitar only has one pickup, the sound is different from the front vs the back of the circle. So he can control the sound quite a bit just from that.

    Some of the most beautiful improvisation I've ever heard, seemed like it started out as kind of like "Baby Please Don't Go" and then jumped right into that beautiful medley. I almost dropped when I saw that circular strumming on the second song. It's sad because most people don't acknowledge that Roy was an absolute master, and one of the most humble musicians. Roy used that teardrop pick to facilitate his picking. He knew his chords and their transpositions in all the positions. The 2nd improv are triads, inside ones leaving out some of the highest and lowest notes, making his sound smooth to the listener. He said he got lots of ideas from piano players and you can hear it in his choice of triads and chords. I think he's thinking melody notes and finding the chords to fit. Á style older players referred to as “chord-melody” playing.

Always noodling on the guitar any chance he could get. So this backyard jam, was a regular occurrence. Roy loved to play more than anyone. He needed to do it all of the time.

      Dale your name also reminds me of another Arkansas great Dale Hawkins, who also knew Levon and The Band. Coincidence much? All dead now but never forgotten. At least we still have Ronnie.

      glen campbell was a decent picker from Arkansas also. :-) and Dale Hawkins cowrote Suzie Q with James Burton. . .Dale was born in south Louisiana around Franklin but is buried in Ark. @@eastwest42286

      Roy did play with Ronnie Hawkins and Levon for a short while. Ronnie kicked him out of the band because Roy was always claiming that he was a werewolf. At least I think that is how the story goes. Regardless, Roy Buchanan is one of the best guitarists that most people don't know about.

      William Brady Roy had personality issues. Probably abused or traumatized somewhere along the road.

      his thumb is picking the E string then uses his fingers for the lead. Michael Lemmo from Norman's Rare Guitars employs this tactic often and very well. You can see here ruclips.net/video/yphrlteloCQ/видео.html, starting from 1:20 and on.

    Thanks a bunch. I just heard this on the other link and was trying to find a copy of it. I found Roy about 2 or so years ago and man, it's hard to overstate how amazing he is.
