What most people won't believe is the amount of new parts that are junk right out of the box. Even worse is when you start troubleshooting you check everything else, because you can't believe you have another junk new part!
The greatest Charger project of the last decade was Mayhem. This decade? The Birdsong Daytona. Just what it has taken to build this car is legendary. I don't know how you fellows did it. You deserve a standing ovation just for getting it running. Caution laps at Irwindale were just icing on an insurmountable cake. BRA-VO!
I was born in 1945 and racing in the 1950s was just like this channel. People built their own race cars. They made race cars from 2 door sedans from the 1930s and 1940s with newer 1950s OHV V8 motors. I love this Charger because I had a Dodge Coronet 2-door hardtop with a 440 Magnum. All we did as youngsters was go to races so this is one of my favorite "real" automotive RUclips channels.
I was literally standing up in my living room watching and cheering you on as you drove on to the track. What you and Daryl & Derek and all your friends did was nothing short of amazing. Not a fail at all - hearing the track crowd shouting "sixty-nine, sixty-nine!" was incredible. That's the win. It's one of the baddest builds anywhere. And I can't wait to see what's next. Well done Chris and the Junkerup Pit Crew!!
That was great watching the whole build you can't get there without hard work even a race ready car is alot of work people just don't understand it was the coolest one on the track
Hey man you can't say you didnt do it the old school way and put the old school effort and push yourself like a real racer does !!!!! I love what you did unfortunelty as a racer we all know it's not always. What you want or you expect !!!! But you really did it tho!!!!! You were on the track !!!!!! And as racer and set up and motor guy here on long island !!! It was awesome watching you bro !!!!!!
Please don’t stop working on this car. Seriously , one of the coolest builds on RUclips. I wanna see your vision in all its glory ripping around a track!
Your vision for this car was spot on !!! Turned out kick ass !! In the average persons eyes it was a pile of scrap metal .. now it’s a race car ! Saved another one !!!
So near, yet so far... Well done for making it onto the track at least. The car is looking great. It was a massive undertaking & it won't take too much more time until it is indeed 'race ready'. It'll be great to see it on the track again, this time, WITH A WING!
You sure put some time in getting this together, and 44 straight hour's, a bummer you didn't make a lap. You have time to get everything right, but it was nice seeing it together and running. G-d bless.
Really enjoyed this build. Hope you finish it. I can appreciate the effort of your team to get to Irwindale. The crowd at the track was truly bummed to miss seeing this car at speed. Kudos
Loved the segment, you are so humble and honest which is what makes your channel so interesting. Wish you nothing but success and good fortune in the New Year !
Amazing job Chris. Your fans truly appreciate you bringing us along for the build. This build is PERFECT advertisement for your future plans of building Daytona cars for clients. Cheers from Los Angeles.
This was an awesome series Chris, such a shame that the fuel pump took a dump. I knew it was going to fail, I wish you'd bought a new one. So sorry you didn't get to win, but the video's is a huge win for you.
Congratulations on getting there! Monster effort! Defective parts, not your fault. Now you’ve got the time for your Midas touch to finish it the way you envision it. By the way, it sounds awesome!
Thank you Chris 😊 for the effort that went into the 69 Charger, the videos! And to everyone that contributed for the cause! Chris, when you build the nose, take a look at Richard Petty's Daytona nose. It appears to have a dip between the edges. Sleek looking. Not a Wedge.
Chinese fuel pump??🤣 At least we know already that it needed to be improved. Better days and glorious races Will come!! Thanks Chris it a hell of a bad ass car!!
oh man, you guys thrashed! We have to see it run a race in the future. the quality of parts and supplies in the world is ridiculous we really need to change this.
what a car!!! You have nothing to be ashamed of. I'm sorry you didn't get to turn a lap, but man, the determination is inspiring. Bought a shirt to help support!! The sounds!!! Oh My God!!!
Chris, you have a lot to to be proud of. Don't take it to hard. Definitely an awesome build in a very short time. I truly look forward to seeing more videos of your journey with this car. Thank you for taking all of us along for the ride. Truly inspiring.
I was one of your first 50 subs. years ago. Changed my name since and have never commented. This one occasion I made an exception What a Herculean task, finishing the build getting on the track and rolling, a win in itself. Amongst all the nice, shiny polished cars yours was best. You never finished 1st. but you won the race. You guy's should be very proud.
This might have been an Irwinfail but the Phoenix will rise again. Cheers for the outstanding hard work, Chris, Daryl and Derek and all who threw their support in the ring. Recording and editing this vid while you're on a 30 day deadline build is monumental.
even without racing it, you did an amazing and incredible job. I had a stainless steel exhaust company here in France and we made quiet a lot of race exhausts. 75% of these cars where finished the last nights and minutes before racing, I know what it is to work hours and hours late at night. I'm sure you'll have fun with this car, once "finished". Thanks for all these super videos, I apriciate really a lot. Cheers man 😎
I am old enough to remember when the 2nd Gen Dodge Charger first came out, and the people that love these cars are the most fanatical about them than most any other car there is. The only car that ever came close to being fanatical about their car would be Corvette Stingray owners. As a consolation prize at least you have the Bullring at LVMS to run it on.
It was a tall task to even build the car and get it there. Let alone on the track at least for the caution laps. It sucks you didn't get to race. But to get it on the track and people chanting for you is a win all in its own man. Great job to you and the good friends that helped out. Plus, the memories that go along with building such an awesome machine.
Man Birdsong, what a valiant effort from you and the fellas. 🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸 even with what happened, easily the best looking car on the track. I have no doubt you will iron the issues out🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You made it happen, you got there and you were on the track. You built an awesome machine and you will make it even better. Thank you for taking the time and effort to wshare it all with us! It was an awesome ride from this end and you will be back!
DAMNIT DEREK!! Seriously though you've accomplished something that other people only ever dream of. Can't wait to see this thing tricked out and hitting the track. Thanks for the awesome video.
Dude, I say this is a huge win! This is hands down the dopest build I've seen in months. It has to be the absolute sweetest streetstock I've ever seen ever. I absolutely love it! It sounds so bad ass dude. And the rear firewall tin work flows so nicely from the deck lid into the car. I can't wait to see her painted, the rest of the tin work done, and the freaking wing and nose on it! Another streetstock race would be super killer to see you do with it. Road course race would be dope too though. Awesome work man! (I can't stress how much I love this car lol)
Congratulations for getting to the Start line! I've been watching these avidly. You and your helpers have put a proper shift in getting it done. Looking forward to more sedate updates when it becomes the proper thing.
If the vinyl won’t stick to the doors, cut out a stencil for the circle and number and just spray paint it on. Hell, you could probably make it look aged to match the car. Love the build and congratulations on getting it on track! 👍
Just finished the video, Chris i know it sucks man but what a killer car and build. You killed it. I can only imagine how shotty that was for you. But awesome awesome build man.
What most people won't believe is the amount of new parts that are junk right out of the box. Even worse is when you start troubleshooting you check everything else, because you can't believe you have another junk new part!
Now even the big names that cost big money are junk out of the box. Quality is going down hill quick!
As a mechanic and body man I second this.
@@dylanpulvermacher9970 not a body guy. But I do own a 10mm. Lol and I agree with these statements.
@ do or did, they always disappear…
Chris, This is not a fail. Failure only happens when you quit. You didn’t. Good on you and your friends that helped.
Chris your an artist don't stop I want to see this car again please
Awesome build cant wait to see the finished Daytona !
This was such an epic build and Herculean effort to race on the circle track. A lot of guys were pulling for you Chris! Bright is your future Obe Wan.

You have good friends on this trip. You won the hearts and minds of Irwindale's grandstand. 😮

You guys got it on the irwindales track even if you didn't get to make green flag. That counts in such an epic way!

The old dodge truck is still looking amazing. Such a clean old truck
Spectacular 30 day build Chris! And respect for giving Virgil #1 credit...
Is it just me or does that thing sound frickin bad ass 👍🏁🇺🇸
There is a Sayin from the 1980's, when I used to Race. "You'll get em next time" Nice job, you should be proud of yourself for the effort.
Hate that you didn't get to turn a wheel in anger, but MAN! What a thrash you guys did! Can't wait to see more of this beauty!
Thank Chris, fecking awesome… Looking forward to the next chapter in this awesome car..

Yes, this channel is the real deal.
