  • In this video we explore the difference between real and imaginary power in AC circuits. Real power, measured in watts (W), reflects the actual work done or energy transferred in a circuit and manifests as the noticeable energy that lights a bulb or turns a motor, for instance. It is computed as the product of voltage, current, and the cosine of the phase angle (power factor) between them. On the other hand, imaginary power, quantified in reactive volt-amperes (VAR), does not perform tangible work but is indispensable for maintaining voltage levels and sustaining the electromagnetic fields in inductive devices like transformers and motors.
