  • Trump Convicted in Porn Star Payment Case
In a historic unanimous guilty verdict reached by the jury after two days of deliberation, Donald Trump becomes the first former American president to be convicted in a criminal trial and the first presidential candidate to run with a criminal record. This status, however, does not prevent him from being elected and serving as commander in chief.
The sentencing, which will be determined in a later hearing, could range from a maximum of 4 years in prison to probation or a fine.
Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts by the jury.
Trump faced 34 charges for falsifying business records in his company to hide the $130,000 paid to porn star Stormy Daniels to prevent her from disclosing, during his 2016 campaign, a sexual encounter they had ten years earlier.
The money was paid by his former attorney Michael Cohen and later reimbursed as fake legal expenses, also violating campaign finance laws and the integrity of the election.
Judge Juan Merchan will announce Trump's sentence on July 11, according to the Associated Press.
Trump remained impassive during the reading of the guilty verdict. When Judge Merchan formally asked the jury if that was their verdict, Trump furrowed his brows at them.
    The tycoon’s anger: ‘A sham verdict, it’s a disgrace’
"It was a sham trial, it’s a disgrace. I am an innocent man," said Donald Trump outside the courtroom, announcing that he "will continue to fight." "The real verdict will be on November 5," he added.
