      Plus the team’s defense is funneling the opponent to the paint with Lively/Gafford in there. On the offense, Klay will have more C&S opprtunities or off screen three from PJ, as third option! Less pressure and less milage. I see Klay’s impact similar with KP on Celtics.

      He's not replacing THJ, he's replacing Derrick Jones Jr in the startning lineup. This is a significant drop in perimeter defense, which is a big deal for the Mavs because the other two defenders are Kyrie and Luka.

    • @joesutherland9354
      @joesutherland9354 19 дней назад +3

      @@haqq1Wrong there are things in the NBA called rotations. Klay is replacing THJ. DJJ got his minutes cut in the Finals because he became a liability on both sides of the ball because he couldn’t handle the physicality of the Celtics perimeter players. It’s why the Mavs went and got Klay, Grimes and Naji and got rid of THJ, DJJ and Green because they werent physical enough. Mavs defense will be fine if not better because they won’t be bricking 3’s all game and the team was only together for 5 months if that now they have a full offseason to build more chemistry

    Luka is playing trough the whole year since he entered NBA. Every year he also plays for our national team of Slovenia in the summer.. Either be it for the Euro Championships, World Championships or the Olympics. He got absolutely no rest on and off the regular NBA season since i can remember. He's playing the Olympic qualifying tournament in Greece, right after the finals of NBA. I have no clue how he will get trogh all his injuries, but my man is an absolute beast.

      that's his problem, the mavs are investing 100s of million dollars on this guy he could take one measely year off from his national team. He could take some rest and recover and then hit the gym for training. This is not honorbale in my eyes, its jsut plain dumb.

      @@haqq1 Well to be fair, there's only a slim chance our country gets to qualify for the Olympics this year. They will have to face Greece with Gianis tonight in the half finals, in Greece. Nico has done a masterful job; Grant Williams notwithstanding.
    Klay is a perfect fit in that offense as a catch and shoot specialist who can also D up some.
    Klay has some size and defend at a very different level than THJ.
    Grimes looks like a perfect buy low guy. He is a better prospect than Josh Green whom they simply couldn't get over the hump as a ball handler.
    And as a small wing he was getting bullied on defense too often.
    Klay gives them more of a Dorian Finney-Smith look at this point of his career but does bring better ball handling.
    And these changes give them a real chance to hit free throws. An area that plagued them in the playoffs.
    Losing DJJ hurts but he had way too many turnovers for a guy that created zero offense for others. Naji will offer better ball handling, size and creation if less speedy guard defense.
    I really think they could use DSJ now as the final piece.

    I see people talking about Klay is the 6th man and etc. He's starting, but that doesn't mean he'll finish the game. Now, yes, he's no longer the great on ball defender he once was before his injuries, but Klay is still a good team defender, and how the Mavericks plays defense. They play by funneling guys into the centers, and im sure Klay can do just that. So I see it as with Klay starting. The Mavs will have an elite offense with average defense, but say Naji is playing and Klay is on the bench, then it'll be elite defense with average offense.

      Did yall not entirely read what I said? 😅 I said with Klay starting that the team is gonna be average defensively because he's not that good defensively anymore. Before this off-season, DJJ was one of the reasons that helped the Mavs be a top defense last year and replacing him with Klay, I don't expect the Mavs to be the same defensively. BUUUT, say if Naji starts, then yeah, I do see the Mavs being again a top-level defense because Naji and DJJ are very similar.
      I'm just saying when Klay starts, when he's playing next to Luka and Kyrie, they're gonna be an average defensive team, hopefully not a bad one. He's definitely better than Thj, but let's not act like Klay can still lock down guys. He's slowed down after his injuries. It is what it is 🤷‍♂️

      Dallas biggest issue was they only had inconsistent shooters around LUKAI, now they have arguably the greatest catch and shoot, shooter in nba history.
