Truro Cathedral bells brought back a very memorable moment in my early ringing career. I learnt to ring @ Madron in 1948 and about 18 months later my Dad and self went to an important Ringing meeting at the Cathedral (possibly AGM/TDGR !) Loads of folk in the Tower- "rounds on 12 " called for, S.A. Henry (aged 15) stepped up on to the box .Voice at my ear "When he says 'look to' you need to rock the bell off the balance !" "Look To" came and went and so did the other nine bells - manful heaving succeeded only in taking the stretch out of the rope!! Three whole pulls later a strong vintage arm reached out over my shoulder and with "Thare ye go Boy. she's all yours" and so it was - I haven't been caught out with a heavy bell since ! Thanks for the memory Nick.
