Turns out the oil hose with the big metal nut is obsolete, generac now has a part with a different material for that frustrating metal bolt. It’s generac part 0d3803. Search that and you will see both versions. I’m going to try it. Wish me luck!
This is my model and I had the same problem with the oil drain tube cap being a bugger! I liked your cardboard trick. Funneled that remaining oil from the filter right down into the pan! Thanks for the video! I am always leery doing this kind of stuff, but your tutorial gave me the confidence to tackle this! Already have my kit that I ordered for maintenance!
Excellent video & thanks for helping other people out showing this oil change.I run a generac 0044562 12kw and Its over 10 years old and runs like a champ. I do the regular oil & air filter change which is real easy.Only issue I ever had was a bad battery 3 years ago.I run an interstate battery as well and no battery issues since.I had a electrician whose a friend look at mine and he told me my unit was designed really good and made to last.Yours looks about the same as mine. Just doing the regular tune-ups and keeping it clean around the unit and it'll last a long time. Thanks again for the video.
In the process of buying a house with what appears to be this exact same model. No idea when the oil was last changed by the current owner but I doubt it has been done in years. Will have to do this right away once I own the home. The current owner said he could never manually start the unit but it starts on loss of Utility power and it starts for it's weekly run without issue. Now I am wondering why he could not manually start it. Thanks for the video!
Congrats on the new house!! Thanks for taking the time to comment. The oil change and maintenance is super easy as you saw. This will save you a couple hundred dollars a year on service calls. Not sure why he couldn't manually start it. It is as easy as you saw. Keep me posted with questions!
I have the 04079-0, the 10 kw unit, my oil is really slow to add? Also i set the exercise button when it’s in auto, it will not startup so it’s isn’t set, why? Thanks
You present this sevice the best and very clears photo and video thanks a million, also is that possible to show where is the spark plug deeplyappreciated massoud.

Hi my Name is Oscar from Mexico and I have a question and I hope you can help me, I want to know how can I get the manual for this generator because I see that have some parts missing and I really want to know if this worth it? Thank you very much for your time, have a great day
You're fine to change it once a year unless it runs for days. Use a quality synthetic oil and filter. Don't cheap out on that and you can just do it annually
@@BtwilliasGarage Thank you! And thank you for your clear video! It gives me peace of mind (I do however will need to get that attachment for the drill to loosen the oil filter... what do you call that?). Truth be told... I have no idea what a good oil is... I should be ashemaed, but I take my car to the dealer and they do the oil change for me. I have never though of asking them what they use. Can you recomend one?Or explain what is a good oil or how to knw it's good? Sorry to bother you. And thank you once again for your help.
Any 12v car battery will do. What you want to do ideally is take the width and length of the battery compartment and find the biggest battery that can fit in that compartment
Yeah, never a good idea to go Against Generac recommendations ( 5W-30 ), & it flows better in cold ( especially FULL synthetic ). You sure made a mess, especially with that un-needed flimsy paper funnel...it's like these videos are priceless in what NOT to do---instead of how to do something. Doing everything one handed surely sucks, you're getting oil on parts & pieces that shouldn't have any ( especially your camera ). But you are fortunate in actually having oil come out of your unit---mine comes out a horrible milky white---because of water in the system. Techs who come over say it doesn't hurt the oil or the engine, but you'd think they would find a solution to the problem. One tech actually pumped the used oil out & it took less than 5 minutes---a great little tool DIY'ers might want to look into...he simply screwed a hose to the drain hose & turned the nifty unit on. The other end of the pump hose went directly into a plastic jug, no need for a large drain pan that can get knocked over or stepped in ( on ). All the old oil is ready to take for disposal, no fussing with draining the drain pan baloney.
@@stephenohluk2019 cool, thanks for sharing. Unit is running well and has 5w30 in it now. Thanks for sharing the tips. I may redo the video. Please understand these are not easy to make and you cannot edit.
Btwillia's Garage I have this exact generator and I noticed it was not running its weekly test run so I opened it up and the air filter compartment is full of oil. Can this be corrected or is it ruined? 😬 I have no idea how it happened either. Any suggestions?
Yikes, I haven't dealt with that. Does not sound good. I'm afraid you will need to phone a friend that's local that knows small engines or call a professional. Keep me posted with what they say caused it and what is broken if you don't mind. Best of luck!
Hey man, I have the same looking generator, but the bran is Carrier... it looks exactly the same though. Now, don't you have to change the spark plugs as well? thank you!
Thank you for a very helpful video. (BTW get a tripod for your phone.) My installer (have not had to use yet in a storm but we are having storm Henri now) said oil MUST be changed after 20 hrs. of first time use. I wondered how I would get that done during a weekend storm. Probably will have to pay big bucks unless I can get a relative to do it.
10w30 is better for hot weather you should use Amsoil small engine oil high zinc 5w30 or 10w30, Amsoil 10w30 will flow better than any other 5w30 in the cold
This is great, I am buying a home with a unit and the owner sadly died, so I don't know anything about it. I am a DIY person with my car, so this looks like a breeze.
Hate the hear that the original owner passed, but glad you are keeping it up! It will be easy for you. Don't forget about the spark plugs every now and then as well. I didn't cover those in this vid

I usually put some new oil into the filter so it doesn't have to start dry.
Yep, stated that I primed the filter (added oil in it) and lubed the seal. Always do just to be safe
