  • The "Margaret Todd" is a four-masted schooner that operates in Bar Harbor, Maine, and offers sailing tours to visitors. This unique vessel is deeply rooted in the maritime traditions of the region.
The Margaret Todd is one of the few four-masted schooners still in operation. With its multiple masts and spread of sails, it's a sight to behold when under full sail.
While the schooner itself is not an ancient vessel, it was designed with historical accuracy in mind. The Margaret Todd was built in 1998.
The schooner was named after Captain and owner Pagels' grandmother, Margaret Todd.
The Margaret Todd operates primarily out of Bar Harbor and provides visitors with scenic views of Frenchman Bay, the Porcupine Islands, and the surrounding landscapes, including the mountains of Acadia National Park.
Throughout the tourist season, the schooner offers several trips daily, which can include sunrise, day, and sunset sails. During these trips, passengers can enjoy not only the natural beauty of the area but also the experience of sailing on a traditional schooner.
While aboard, the crew often shares information about the history of the region, the maritime traditions of New England, and the specifics of operating such a vessel. On occasion, passengers might even get a chance to help raise the sails.
The distinctive red sails of the Margaret Todd have made it an iconic presence in Bar Harbor, often featured in photographs and paintings of the area.
For those visiting Bar Harbor and seeking an authentic maritime experience combined with breathtaking views, a sail aboard the Margaret Todd is a memorable choice.
