I first heard this piece many years ago played by Susi Jeans on an organ she didn't really know and clearly disliked. It wasn't exactly an inspiring experience so I'm delighted to find this fabulous performance by Wayne Marshall who shows what a fine work it is in the right hands.
Not only it is a fantastic piece of music, it's also THE hardest organ part I ever saw, and you have to be really skilled to play this in this tempo. Bravi!!!
@@Xxxxxxx-i7o totally agree.Another dimension of difficulty;just like Messiaen.Requires outstanding abilities of musical analyse and execution both.A small circle of players can afford that.
Moving piece, moving performance, with a (rarely heard but really necessary ) right amount of drama. Listen also to Schmidt's Oratorium 'Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln'!
And his symphonies (especially 2, 3 and 4). And his chamber works. And "Notre Dame". And "Fredigundis". And the two concertante works for piano and orchestra. And the rest of the organ music...
If you regularly work on practicing double note scales/arpeggios and exercises this isn’t going to be that difficult. His Fantasia and Fugue in D Minor is WAY more difficult than this! And then there’s of course works by Dupré, Messiaen, Langlais, Duruflé, Guillou, Reger!!!

what do you think about Listz's masterpiece on the name of BACH?
Piet van Dijk its really not that difficult
@@thekathal I agree, there are some spots you have to practice a lot, but in general not a super hard piece.
@@pietvandijk5084 Max Reger's organ works are more difficult than the works of Listz !!

Wayne Marshall is truly insane!
He is a genius. In fact, this is a tribute by one genius to another.
phenomenal tempo!
This is a gem.
Very difficult, but a wonderful performance
stunning!

Thank you for uploading!
At this pace I strongly believe that this flourish piece is waaaaaay harder than the score appears to be!!!
The score is very clearly laid out but the physical manoeuvres it requires the player to make are far from easy.
Truly AMAZING!!!
Wie kann man etwas so schwer spielen??? Das Werk ist wunderbar!!
Nice; Schmidt is relatively unknown, but composer of some really great stuff! Enjoy!
He deserves to be far better known (and, where known, understood and appreciated).
Hi, Walde
Is it just me or does Franz Schmidt look a bit like Paul Whitehouse in that opening photo?

erinnert an Reger oder Widor
imposant.
Just no.
