I had a go at your technique and the results are great thanks
Hi Brian, thanks mate. I'm very pleased to hear this. All the best...Tom
This was exactly the type of video I was looking for. Thank you.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Much appreciated, Tom
I do like yer mixing of paints. In the past I've tried mixing my own for custom colours but I have also used some greens straight out of the bottle. My foam sponge is also quite yellow. Thanks for posting, mate.
What a great idea! Looks awesome! I will definitely have to try it, thanks for sharing, Linda
Thanks very much, Linda. Yes, it's a good way to keep the colours compatible. All the best...Tom
thank, you for you're video. 🇺🇸 🏴

Great idea I will use on my layout ! Thank you for sharing Tom.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I have a few more ground foam videos that you may find useful. All the best...Tom
@@tomjenssen7486 Hello Tom. I just made a batch from old foam . Used your mixing ratio and it came old great ! So helpful ! The only problem is there aren't many trees or bushes around a working steel mill. These simple steps have granted my layout more realism. Thank you.
When I make a video of my layout I will give full credit to your channel & links.
@@ModelingSteelinHO That's great :) I'm very glad to have helped. Thank you.
Fantastic video Tom! :D Really enjoyable to watch!
Thank you so much Mark :)) I'm glad you enjoyed it. All the best mate :)
Great tip and good for doing your own colours and blends, thanks for sharing .. cheers .. Pete
Thanks very much for your support, Peter. All the best....Tom
Interesting strategy, I might try it.
Thanks very much for the support. I'm building a large layout in my attic and I worked out I'd need a few hundred quid just to buy the bushes..lol. I've been grinding my own foam for a while now but recently I've been working on these colours to bring the quality up to match the leading brands. It's going to save me a small fortune and I really have fun doing it. Thanks again and all the best....Tom
@@tomjenssen7486 Do you shred the foam with a blender?
I tried that but I never got the fine turf quality that I needed so I use a grinder to get all the different textures.
Here's the ground foam playlist...I hope it helps....Tom

Hi Tony, thanks very much. I'm glad you like the idea. All the best....Tom
Brilliant tip, I'll be trying this out
Cheers
Thanks very much, I hope it helps saves you some money. All the best...Tom
This might be a stupid idea, but have you ever dried weeds or grass clippings and then ground that in a coffee bean grinder for fake grass? Seems like it would be similar in color and texture. Im sure it would fade over time though. I am making a miniature set for a comedy show intro and my project wouldn't need to last.
I've tried to blend grass cuttings to get the colour but, as you say, it fades as soon as it dries. Paint or dye is the way to go....paint being the easiest. Maybe you should try some static grass too? Best of luck with your project and all the best (let me know how it goes) Tom
thank you!
Good one Tom I do mine in a similar way ...And use similar paints ....have you tried hookers green ....fred 👌🎨
Hi Fred, cheers mate. Yes, I have hookers green. Out of all the 'ready made' greens it's the best one for dark green. All the best :)
I need to start doing this
small loco guy I find this to be a very enjoyable part of the hobby.
