  • Nuclear, radiological and chemical incidents have the potential to cause major harm.
    The risk of nuclear and radiological events causing health effects can usually be significantly reduced by relatively simple measures, which are based on the properties of the chemicals released, especially at a distance from the incident.
    Chemicals that can cause harm, such as organophosphate and mustard chemicals, need to be understood to mitigate the risks and establish medical countermeasures.
    This lecture was recorded by Sir Chris Whitty on 28th November 2023 at Barnard's Inn Hall, London.
    Chris was Gresham Professor of Physic at Gresham College from 2018 to 2022, and Visiting Professor of Public Health 2015-2018 and again since 2022.
    He is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for England and the UK Government's Chief Medical Adviser.

    i would always look to this fine man for advice on anything im unsure about....the demoni(c\ gaze actually gives me reassurance that he cares as does his stuttering...his predictions for the future give me most confidence. a true heroof our times.sir

    Interesting talk, things have come on a bit since the Merchant Navy 'What to do if the balloon goes up' lectures back in the late 1970s.

    Though measures are taken it is still hard to predict nuclear catastrophes and prevent them effectively. The "atom" behaviour itself is quite chaotic, thus anti-radiological protection blueprint has a bunch of flaws, albeit new era advent. Chernobyl is a sheer example of vulnerability related to such a system also wreck happened decades ago. Moreover, the staff of nuclear facilities needs to be bold enough.

    Harm is an uncountable noun.
    "Reducing harms.." is really poor grammar.

      Harm can be countable when you are referring to different kinds of harm.
      As in the title to this which is about different harms, burning, poisoning etc.
