I'm loving these kinds of BTS-videos. As a News/ENG-photographer just getting into the commercial world, It makes the whole scene less threatening and easier to strive towards.
I was able to learn a lot when I was starting out just by going on set with different people that were more experienced than I was. I'm glad my videos can be helpful for you!
This is pure gold. :) More of this. The mix between it being entertaining and informative is very nice. Informative as in you explain things and entertaining as in we get to see what's going on, on a set - both in front of and behind the camera.
I could watch these all day! Another cracking video mate. Looked like a fun shoot and the production quality of the rushes is sky high. Bet the client will be chuffed!
This is an insight i dont think we'd get anywhere else thank you for all the bts shots and explaining scenarios on set really insightful and cool, keep on man!
So cool to get a look into a set like this and all the little nuggets i can pull out of it! Just backing up the footage this way is definitely something i need to consider. Also: more coffee for Dave 😉
Glad you liked it bro! Also glad you picked up a few little tips. Let me know if you have any video ideas for me to make in the future. Always looking for feedback 🙌 and yes Dave and I both run off coffee ☕️☕️☕️
need the c500 mk ii vs alexa mini lf vid - I'v seen people match them but to me i want to see the differences how they react when you push the colors/ contrast - the motion also also seems different from the c500mkii maybe due to the c500's slower readout? maybe i'm just crazy but would love a comparison video
Hey Andrew! I will work on that one. I have to wait until the next time we get the Mini LF in for a project, or I might see if I can borrow one from my friends over at Evidence rentals in LA.
Sooo Griffin, any chance you're looking to buy a Wave camera? I could see it being super useful to own given your core clientele right? A very reasonable price for it's capabilities.
@@GriffinConway Cheers, thanks for the reply. I use Feelworld monitors, and they allow you to monitor false colours either with or without the corrective LUT applied.
Thanks for post. getting this error from C70 luts - "Product doesn't exist Oops! It looks like you're trying to access a product that never existed" Any luts for R5 or C70 is good too ?
Just updated the link! My luts are great for any cameras that can shoot in clog2. I use it with the r5 all the time when I capture in raw and interpret as clog2. I don’t currently have any clog1 or clog3 luts available. I might make some in the future though.
Gotta get me one of those motion control robots. What are they, two, three hundred bucks? ;-P Seriously though, that thing looks like it could hurt someone if programmed wrong.
Ya it seemed crazy to me at first too! Haha....I think it is more of a safety thing on bigger sets. Although, on most of my sets we run a slightly smaller crew and things are a little bit more chill
It’s the way they’ve just become this “thing”. They represent a pandemic which, statistically, ended a while ago. They were discouraged at the start, partly because if they weren’t worn properly and changed frequently, they do more harm than good. I dunno. I like my entertainment and distractions (like RUclips) to not constantly remind me of the worst 16 months of my life. 🤷♂️ Not in anyway having a pop at you. You’re a great guy and you’ve helped me out by answering C200 questions on FB.
Hey totally agree with you. I think in another month or so we don’t have to wear them in California any more. When I do these videos on actual jobs I have to follow the studio rules which required us to wear masks while on set, but I’m looking forward to not having to wear those any more. Anyways, thanks for watching Mark, I appreciate it 🙌
For smaller budgets it’s definitely not reasonable, but for national TV commercials it’s actually pretty normal for budets to be anywhere from $10k - 40k per day, so spending $7k on rentals is pretty reasonable
This type of video is very important for those just starting out. Keep making this content for us because it is very informative!!!! Thank you
Thanks so much for watching Hugo!

Not as insane as your Antartica vids tho :)

Getting to use that scorpion arm for the perfectly repeatable movements would be amazing - incredible work yet again!

We really want a camera robot. It's on our bucket list for sure!
If I win the lottery in buying one for sure haha
Hedge is a life saver! It indicated faulty RAM of my MacBookPro when backing up! Thanks for these insights. Is the final video somewhere available?

Haven't looked in to them too much. How much are you looking to sell it for?
Awesome video! Quick question, do you monitor false colour for exposure on a LOG or REC709 image? Cheers
I like to use false color on the rec 709 image. Unless it’s on the c70, which I believe only shows false color on the log image
@@GriffinConway Cheers, thanks for the reply. I use Feelworld monitors, and they allow you to monitor false colours either with or without the corrective LUT applied.

Haha I wish they were a couple hundred 😄😂 it could for sure hurt someone. That thing could do some damage for sure!
Nice! What frame rate do you use for your commercials?
23.976, 59.97, and occasionally 120p
@@GriffinConway got it. Thank you. 🙂
Is the scorpion arm what they used on the Kendrick Lamar "Humble" video? that is sick!!!!!
I think so. I know they filmed A$ap Rocky, marshmallow and Halsey and a few other big music videos with it
@@GriffinConway those movements are sick!!!
@@KevinBrown-fp9pj thanks Kevin!
Video guy = hat + beard
Mandatory on all sets lol
Yuki??

@@GriffinConway I can see why some creators like working on smaller sets.
Totally agree
Great video, but the mask thing is getting ridiculous
Thank you. Out of curiosity, in which way is the mask thing ridiculous? Not trying to be a jerk at all just not sure I follow what you mean

Depending on the size of your client, the rentals on these are actually probably a lot more in budget than one might think.
@@GriffinConway Did a search and saw $7,000 a day, is this reasonable?
For smaller budgets it’s definitely not reasonable, but for national TV commercials it’s actually pretty normal for budets to be anywhere from $10k - 40k per day, so spending $7k on rentals is pretty reasonable
