I'm with you all the way. Just saw your comment. After Vietnam I resumed my career as a professional drummer. My biggest kick was backing up the temptations,, Archie bell and the drells , and Jr walker at the Cincinnati jazz festival in 77. What a time to be young and alive. I first heard this song on a 2 am flight from Cincinnati to west palm Beach there wasn't 25 people on the plane. I was working with a 10 pc show band called the Max's mob. What a time it was . And the girls gooood god , they were beautiful. Now I'm old and fighting cancer, but l wouldn't trade a single day. We were blessed to have lived through that era.
After Vietnam 70-71 I resumed my career as a professional drummer I had the honor of backing up artists such as Archie bell and the drells , Jr walker, the temptations at the Cincinnati jazz festival in 73. I would tour with some and just do one show with others . I studied percussion and got my teaching license , joined the union and worked non stop through the 70,s. I'd give all my tomorrow's to go through that wonderful decade . I tell my sons, words can't describe it, you had to be there. The music, the cars, the vibe and the GIRLS!!! Tube tops ,hip hugger jeans . My mouth is watering. We were so blessed to have lived through those years. Let's you and me build a time machine and hit the club seen of 72. I'd never come back.
What a gem 😍 makes my day every time I hear this song. So underrated . What a shame I just heard this song the first time this year . Been missing it all my life. Glad I discovered it .

Ahhh! The summer of 1977. Remember it well. Mr. Peanut in the white house, 45¢ a gallon gasoline super supreme 109 octane, 75¢ Big Mac, Whopper, Jumbo Jack. Brand new Chevrolet, Ford, Chrysler for around $4500 out the door. Tickets to Disneyland $15! And free parking. And this mega hit plaing in every home, car radio, malls, and grocery stores all over USA. Different time, different styles, different values, different era, different people, different music, different country. A time never to return again. Glad i lived it.
Ivonne, una gran voz. Esta canción me transporta a mis 17 años. Sigue siendo mi canción preferida. Siempre la escucho. Cada vez que puedo; ahora tengo 62 años. Gran tema. Gran voz.

Both versions are excellent, Barbra Lewis's original and first performance. The remake of this song and performance by Yvonne Elliman also is really great to.
You guys comments are too brilliant my grandmother loved this song and do y'all remember the Spinners working my way back to you baby oh God she loved❤ these two songs❤❤❤😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I equally like the way Barbra Lewis performs this song. I do belive the backround vocals on Yvonnes version are a few steps better. That's just what I belive.
Although, the original song was written and sung by Barbara Lewis in 1962, Yvonne Elliman brought it back exactly the same without change of tones 15 years later, causing a great success to her. Very romantic, it brings me a lot of 1977"s memories.

One of the most beautiful Voices in women's Vocals of ALL TIME!!! She would have been most successful with the right writers! I would have put my whole Career on her voice!!
Growing up in the 70s, we had no idea that we were making history. In my late 50s now, and I wish I could re-live those years to the max. I would have been a better man, a better son to my parents and a better person to society.
I know exactly what you mean, I completely agree, the times when I was still just a boy who longed for a gorgeous Lady, and She shows herself as being just as that, her whole self as a Real Lady, for all Real men to know just what a real Lady deserves and their Respect entirely!
I could have sworn that I saw Yvonne Elliman in some videos backing up other singers as a singer or playing the tambourine or something. Fun fact, she's from Hawaii, I think from Roosevelt High School.
I was a professional drummer all through the 70s .what a time it was. The beautiful girls, the music, the vibe .the world has gone to hell on roller skates.
"If I Can't Have You", "Just a Little Bit Longer", "I Don't Know How to Love Him" are 3 more hits that come to mind. Hawaii girl made the big time after being cast in "Jesus Christ Superstar"

I wish it was a Saturday in the 70’s. I’d be listening to Casey Kasem, watching American Bandstand and waiting for Soul Train . Who’s with me?
