The transition logo started in late 1964 on Strats so it makes sense for a 1965. What is odd are the clay dots since they went to pearl ones by late 1964...most likely an older 1964 neck with the previous clay dots that sat around in the factory and didn't get a final date stamped until 1965. What is intriguing are the 1966 pickups...did the factory only ship out the final guitar in 1966 or were they replaced at some point(???). Whatever the story that is one lovely Strat...black with mint green and Rosewood is so beautiful.
there are various variations of the so-called transitional decal. Different color of Fender logo, patent numbers and even capital or non capital letters like the "Pat Pend." This decal has a gold Fender logo that does not wear off easily or oxidizes like most others do
Sorry to correct you: it was a black strat with maple fretboard, named "black beauty". The photographes were taken by Monika Dannemann at the Samarkand Hotel.
Man that Strat is CLEAN!!! Gorgeous guitar and great find :)
Jimi played a small headstock, black Strat with a rosewood fretboard at Monterey Pop in addition to the hand painted one.
black strats w/rosewood necks are my favorite.
Great video.

This specific decal is late 65/early 66 for sure. Its not like the earlier transitional decal. And I had other Jan65 necks with clay dots 🤗
@@Guitarpointsound Ok interesting...what subtle detail did they change on the decal compared to the earlier one?

@@Guitarpointsound Ok...I was not aware!

Black Strat very nice
Video’s thumbnail makes the guitar look teal and black because of the shine/shadows
Coolio ✌🏼
What about the clay dots?
Clay dots on January 65 neck are not uncommon. We‘ve had a few before.
