  • One of the best ways to learn a new style or emulate an individual player’s style is to make up a tune using their musical vocabulary. That’s what I did with “Vassarisms” in G. After the performance there is a preview of the lesson video so you can learn a Vassar lick too! Subscribe to masterfiddle.com for only $25 a month to gain access to the full video along with sheet music (includes bowings and fingerings) and audio practice tracks. You can also access a host of other content on fiddle, mandolin, and guitar with styles ranging from jazz and western swing to old-time and bluegrass. You’ll also get big discounts on private online lessons with me and my online group classes. Subscribe now at masterfiddle.com (gift certificates also available).

That is some terrific playing. I'm really impressed. I don't think a lot of people realize how hard some of those double stops are to do and make them sound right.

Great stuff... I think Jimmy Buchanan was the first one to record the "Paddy on the Turnpike" lick

Thanks for that info! I know Jimmy Buchanan doesn't get nearly enough credit for all his innovation.

No, just an old and inexpensive German factory fiddle with a good setup.

@@MasterFiddle i love the tone. It's finish is a dead ringer for my Ivan Dunov violin
