    Since this seems to be confusing some people, my mention of the Constellation Class was not a mistake. That ship was the Ambassador's direct predecessor in commissioning date.
    I was not referring to the Enterprise lineage.
    These videos are always written from an in-universe perspective, not through the lens of what is narratively important to Star Trek. The Enterprise only gets mentioned in it's capacity as an important example of the Ambassador Class.

    • @VincentVisee
      @VincentVisee 4 года назад +2

      @@csehszlovakze scimitar i would say, voyager was a small and not very heavily armed science vessel. Although the ablative armour would help a lot, it still wouldn't stand a chance against the 52 disruptor banks and 27 torpedo bays of the scimitar. In Star trek online, the transphasic torpedoes were only effective against borg and we never saw them used differently in canon. If they were effective against the scimitar, voyager would win, if not, voyager would be destroyer pretty quickly i would guess with minimal damage to the warbird

    • @csehszlovakze
      @csehszlovakze 4 года назад +1

      @@VincentVisee I never played STO. I've also seen theories about Voyager's sensors being advanced enough so that the Scimitar's "perfect cloak" isn't that good. The reasons are debatable, but it seems no tech from Voyager was ever adapted on a wider scale by Starfleet.

    I personally think the Ambassador design is so much better than the Galaxy-class. It looks more balanced without an such an oversized primary hull and while the nacelles are short, they do not look like so ridiculously stumpy as they do on the Galaxy-class.
    Elements like the round deflector array and shape of the secondary hull also help to make it feel more like a Federation starship rather than a bathroom fixture. It was great to have it appear in one of the best and most memorable episodes of TNG.

    It got mad respect from the klingons for fighting a unwinnable battle. To stand against all odds and not back down when innocent defenseless peoples lives are at stack is the mark of a true warrior.
    The klingons probably show the fighting spirit of the federation. And show that the federation laid down it's own to save klingons. The mark of a true allie.
    The klingons would have been dishonorable and foolish to not sign an alliance after such a heoric act.

    I realize it was likely mostly due to budgeting, but it always bugged me that in TNG and even more so in DS9 that it seemed the vast majority of Starfleet was pretty much Miranda-class and Excelsior-class with the odd Galaxy and Oberth thrown in here and there. I could be wrong, but I think the only time we see this class at all is in 'Yesterday's Enterprise' Which is weird. The Constitution-class ( original and refit ) lasted 50ish years and then was phased out, but the Miranda and Excelsior were around 100 years later.
    I always wondered what the in-universe reason for the complete lack of Ambassador-class vessels was. I mean, you'd think by DS9 the backbone of the fleet would be Ambassadors with Excelsiors on the side, instead of Excelsiors with Mirandas.

The Excelsior and Miranda VFX models were made for DS9...after which everything switched over to the ST:Enterprise-era).

    Always loved this ship class. it bridges the gap between the original series movies and TNG. you can visually see the evolution in design and technology. It nicely falls between the Excelsior & miranda class ships we see in star trek 2-6 and the galaxy & nebula classes we see in TNG. we really needed to see more these.

    I was never the biggest fan of the Galaxy-class...
    I thought the Enterprise D should have had more in common with this, with a touch of the Excelsior-class.

    The only time this class was mentioned name was in the TNG Season 1 episode 'Conspiracy' mentioned as the U.S.S. Horatio under the command of Captain Walker Keel who was an old friend of Picard's and the only other ship of the Ambassador Class was the U.S.S. Excalibur that Commander Will Riker commanded during the Starfleet blockade during the Klingon Civil War in the TNG Season 5 episode 'Redemption part 2'.

    How would the Dominion War variants of the Ambassador and Excelsior class compare?
    The Excelsior with upgrades was still a powerhouse [the Lakota went toe to toe with the Defiant, still it had a bunch of completely new upgrades] and was a frontline combat ship almost a century after it was first deployed.
    Could a Ambassador that had a complete _minor refit_ be as viable?

    • @Euripides_Panz
      @Euripides_Panz 4 года назад +1

      If anything, it should be more viable. Lakota was one of the later commissioned Excelsior. It was from a time when the Ambassadors were already out. Ambassadors utilize more advanced design and construction and her upgrades her likely higher priority.

    Didn't the Federation give the design to Bajor at some point? I remember reading somewhere that the Bajorians were pissed they received an old design, but once the ship was built, they realized the ship was fairly up to date and excellent at the mission profiles that Bajor could assign... Maybe this is not canon?

    • @patricknakasone9376

      One of DS9 novels. A Bajorian shipyard was commissioned to build an Ambassador class ship. It maturer design that has had all the major kinks worked out of it. IIRC some small civilian shipyards where still producing the Miranda class for non starfleet use.

    Have you ever considered looking at doing breakdown episodes for Star Trek ships that appeared only in video games like Star Trek: Shattered Universe? There's plenty of ships there you can do multiple episodes on.

    Some trivia the Ambassador-class was first mentioned in the Season 1 episode "Conspiracy" the USS Horatio was mentioned as an Ambassador-class starship under the command of Captain Walker Keel the one who called Picard and arranged for the meeting in Dytallix B later the Horatio was destroyed in an explosion likely due to the ships self-destruct being activated.
