Open interest is equally short and long. However when price moves away from a point where a large amount of open interest was added (ie. shorts/longs opening), either the shorts or longs will be trapped.

I wonder how to judge whether there are more longs or shorts trapped(when OI rises during consolidation) - besides the direction of price breaking out of consolidation(leaving opposite side trades trapped).
Look at the amount of increase of open interest within various market ranges. For example, if there is a range below and a range above and we know that the range above contains +100 million USD open interest and the range below contains +30 million USD open interest, we know that there was a much larger quantity of positions opened at higher prices. This makes it likely that price will struggle more to move higher due to the large amount of trapped longs who had opened at the higher range, price will likely have an easier time moving lower due to a lower quantity of trapped shorts.
The best time to invest bitcoin/fx and cryptocurrency trading is now, don't say to yourself that's going down because you will end up postponing for ever start now and make you start with a right broker.
