  • The most important thing in street photography! & A HUGE fail! (ft Sean Tucker & Josh Jack)
The most important thing to remember in street photography is also the most difficult to sustain. in this video, I mention 6 mistakes I often make in street photography. We're always learning ay!
I had one hour before meeting with Sean Tucker (‪@seantuck‬) and Josh Jack (insta- @joshjack) for his book launch and presentation. I'm sure you follow sean tucker but here's his YT incase: bit.ly/3Gn8Ov9
I had hoped for more time before the meet but still, an hr in good light around the Barbican, London doing some street photography is always exciting!
    Hope you enjoy it! :-)

Keep up the great work. I love how you show the trials and tribulations of working the scenes and trying to make good photographs. you are very relatable this way and def separates you from many other photographers on RUclips who hide all that and just show us the final images.

The 3rd shot is my favorite. The person coming towards us, and visually occupying a larger space in the frame makes it a nicer and better balanced composition I think. Great video overall; hearing your thoughts and ‘trials and tribulation” you go through is very helpful and makes it much more relatable. Thank you.

Great video Gareth, really enjoyed it. One place I’ve always wanted to go to The Barbican, Brutalism at its finest, and as I do a lot of photos without people I’d be in my element. Really hope I can get to see Sean’s talk, followed him for a number of years now and just love how he uses philosophy in his photography. One thing he always says, which really resonates with me, “ don’t pigeon hole yourself, although his Street Photography is awesome he says that he isn’t a Street Photographer, just a Photographer

You was under time pressure m8, I liked the silhouette against the lit building (1st image) you can’t do your best work when you are looking at the clock 🤔 two red boots was good too 😉👍 good that you are brave enough to put out some of your rare fails, not that most of us regard them as fails. Street photography is an art form that I don’t quite understand as an amateur but learning from you guys that do it is an eye opener, it makes you look very differently at the world around you 👌

Think with focus areas you may be confusing the “All” setting with “Wide/tracking”? “All” means you can scroll through all focus areas seamlessly rather than having to choose independently. You probably worked that out 🙂. Love the challenge, lots to learn from it - thank you.

That’s the one thing I noticed about most of the street photographers I see, they’re not ready and they have their camera around their neck and they’re doing something else.
The main reason I chimp so much with Fuji, is I don’t trust the auto focus! I’m using the XT4.

  • @MattWilliamsuberkraaft

Interested in your comment about iso 1600 shouldn’t be right - I’m having that a lot with the X-T5 to the point of thinking there’s an issue with the camera. Tested against a light meter everything appears to be 1 full stop underexposed 😬

    • @GarethDanks
      @GarethDanks  Год назад

Yeah that was so odd. But there wasn’t anything white in the frame so maybe I had overexposed it. Saying that tho. The white shoots didn’t clip when they came into frame. Odd one

A tripod and a remote release would have been useful in a situation like this.
You can frame the scene as you wish, then wait for your perfect moment.
I know street photographers aren't bothered with tripods .... but maybe they should be.
    A tripod gives you freedom.
You could be eating a bacon bun, whilst taking masterpieces .... sitting in a deck-chair by the side of your tripod.
