    There's nothing to laugh about Hidding under desk during earthquake especially if you are inside a building or studio in this case full of heated lights, equipments etc under your head.

    • @Rapscallion2009
      @Rapscallion2009 6 лет назад +67

      Quite - if just one of those studio lights shook loose and fell on you it could easily kill. They're supposed to be secured with a chain as well at attached to the rail, but even so. Even a mic boom could give you a nasty smack.
      Easy for a comedian to stand there and get a cheap laugh about it (easier than writing any material, anyway) Also easy to say after the event it wasn't serious, but it's best to take cover before it becomes serious than afterwards...

"Annoys" doesn't even describe my discomfort for that hypocrite of a person.

      @@LegoGBlokIf you cannot get out or it is not safe enough to try and walk out, you take cover under something that can shield you, hopefully enough for rescue to dig out something that isn’t a corpse. One you shouldn’t do, is bracing in a doorway.
      This is according to the CDC for protecting yourself in the event of an earthquake.
      Ultimately, do you think the area you’re in can stay standing during the 10-30 seconds one usually lasts and do drills for all natural disasters so that if they happen, you have muscle memory. It wasn’t a natural disaster, but during 9/11 there had been a soldier working for one of the businesses in the Trade buildings and he forced everyone to go through drills because he knew someone would eventually attack the Trade Center and he successful. He was the only one who didn’t survive because he went back to try and save others, but everyone he forced to do those drills was able to leave calmly and safely and I believe with no injuries.

    It may be funny for the news anchors to go under their desk, but that's the recommended action in an earthquake and it's a great example to follow. I believe in this context "macho southamerican anchors" was completely derogatory. That was an anchor from a chilean news channel. Chile has experience with earthqueakes, large and small. Buildings are secure (those which were not, guess what? already fell down) and there are strict building code regulations.
      News anchors are expected to pass a "keep calm" message during earthquakes so as to not generate panic. You can search for many other cases. Here have a chilean news anchor during an 8.4 magnitude quake, on a third floor: ruclips.net/video/G5MW1HiuqpM/видео.html
      Of course I wouldn't be so calm during an earthquake on any country in the world, nor in any country in latin america. But I would in any building in Chile.

      I would like to put those girls making fun of those people reacting to the earthquake in an earthquake simulator set to it's highest magnitude, with the room full of things that would go flying during an earthquake, and just watch how long it would take them to go running screaming to mama; I'd give them fifteen to twenty seconds.

    I think the anchors who took cover during the quake did the right job, if they were live then they were literally showing millions of viewers what they should do at home too. Aren't we all taught at drills to take cover? Making fun of what they did can actually save lives, way cooler than being burried with some rubbles or die.

    Immediately going under the desk is an _immensely_ good habit in earthquake-prone zones, though. Earthquakes can start out relatively gentle and escalate very quickly. Make fun of him all you like, he was demonstrating the exact right course of action for their viewers.
