Great thing with Manistee National is that you can combine playing it with Manistee Golf and Country Club and both Arcadia courses and make an extended weekend or weeklong trip out of it. Heck, add Hemlock Golf Club in Ludington if you're coming from downstate and now you have six great options to choose from.
Have played there many times. Personally, I think the Retreat is a decent course, but the Revenge is SPECTACULAR! It plays a lot longer than the stated yardage as there is very little roll (as it was built on swampland). And since most people DO seem to play the Retreat, it is very easy to get on the Revenge and pace of play is great.

I went in May. Played all three courses. Fantastic trip. I recommend it.
The Short Course looks like it's worth a visit on its own!
