Question thought u shouldn’t run ground wire from amp to the battery directly??? I have a popping noise from my speakers when I hit my air ride switch is this bad ground??
Coils (fill, dump vavles and compressor relays magnatize and cause a voltage feedback every time they are turned off or on. That is known, What isnt so known is why some audio sytems pick up that noise so much better than others. Typically it is ground issue but not always. Its more common on systems that use RCA cables. that are ran from the head unit to the amps. But again, thats not always the case. First thing I do is eliminate all body grounds/frame grounds. Then I put a diode acorss the positive and negative wires feeding the coils. The diode I use is the 1N4005. The diode has a stripe on one side that must go to the positive wire. The closer they are to the vavle the better they will work. This si the diodes amzn.to/4a4mtEa ...this is apretty common issue on harleys after installing air ride. And this is the fix everyone uses.
Looks good. One thing you always want to disconnect ground first and reconnect it last on a battery. that way if you are connecting the positive connection and your tool or something happens to touch the frame or something that is grounded it won't short out.

Hello @sikbaggers what is your current speaker and amp recommendation (with only 2 faring speakers) now 3 years later? I noticed a year or so ago you recommended a different speaker. Thanks
the internal pod bracing is there to provide rigidity to the plastic to keep it from resonating at certain frequencies. if you cut a hole in the pod to make more room you prevent resonance, and vibration, but you also prevent sound pressure behind the driver which causes bass loss. the best solution would be to make the pods out of a dead material, reinforce the plastic pods, or pack them with batting material to absorb resonant freqs.

Factory stereo systems connected with high-level inputs will not sound as good as low-level inputs. If your using an aftermarket stereo, there won't be much of a difference between high-level or low-level inputs on basic systems. If you're going higher end use low-level inputs.
yes...this video is quite old and there is better out there and this is what I use now for this set up.. Renewed Sound Digital 800.4 EVO-X amp amzn.to/4dGfHFj or new amzn.to/4e15y6B PRV Midrange Speakers - amzn.to/4gWpp9s Line Output Converter - amzn.to/4exZnb3 Youll need amp install gear...power wire, ground wire, connectors, inline fuse, remote wire and 2 rca cables. Here are the links for the ones I use. 8 gauge wire +/- amzn.to/3NpP8cO 8 GA 1/4 inch rings - amzn.to/3YnliMC RCA Cables - amzn.to/3YpA5VV Inline Fuse - amzn.to/487fKZV Blue Remote Wire 18 GA - amzn.to/487LGgp
Hook your power wire straight to the battery. You can run the ground to the battery but I prefer to run it to the frame ground where the battery is grounded. Follow the black wire down under your starter from your battery. There is a 7/16th bolt that grounds your battery to the frame. remove that (its kind of tough to get to) and add your ground wire there. To make it easier to get to remove your oil dipstick, and the starter cover. Its on the end of your starter and one single small bolt in the middle. there is nothing behind it..its just a beauty cover. then you can access that bolt much easier. I hope this helps.
Which of the line output converter do I need? Going to run 6.5 prvs in the fairing and 6x9 prv in bags. 2 channel? 4 channel? Remote turn on circuit? Thanks for the input!
Hey B! Thanks for checking it out man...and when I get another one in here I will do that...ive done several and never really had a chance to do a video on it as they are kind of time consuming to do.
a good mid range will sound great in the front without tweeters...you can always bump it up to something is more full range or add tweeters to mirror holes and move your mirrors to the handlebars..if your bike is a RG then you can buy new grills with tweeters in them.
yes sir...right here smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B077VGG18B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 you can also purchase the ferrels and pliers separately
I have a 2021 Electra Glide Standard. This bike comes with no head unit or speakers. I am planning to do the exact set up you are doing here. My question is this the bike comes pre wired to plug my after market head unit directly into it. Since I am using the aftermarket head unit and its never had the stock head unit in it does it need to be flashed?
Hello @sikbaggers what is your current speaker and amp recommendation (with only 2 faring speakers) now 3 years later? I noticed a year or so ago you recommended a different speaker. Thanks
I bought the aquatic av head unit its a plug in type now I ran all my speaker wire I put my new speakers in my new amp and new head unit the one thing I'm confused on is what do I do with the old speaker wire that was hooked up to the old speakers I believe I can just cap them and not use them because it was hooked up to the old wire harness but now that I'm by passing it with the amp I'm sorry if its a stupid question I'm new at this
you are correct ...you can just cap those off...We usually dont remove any factory wires..just cap them in case down the road you or someone else may need them they are still there.
i'm pretty confused on a 4 channel with high level input conversion built in and still used a line level converter - if the head unit and/or speaker wires are that noisy i think id just switch head units - props for speaking up about amp gain - i still check with a cheap scope - even some of the cheap graphing multi-meters are handy for level setting and to make sure you're not clipping
You can use the HL input over the LOC...I just installed it this way for example because thats what was in the shop that day...If your doing this to other bikes make sure to mark the gains..lesson learned the hard way after a buddy cranked his gains after he left and smoked his amp..im to the point now I even take a picture and store it on my pc and mark whos bike it was. If they bring it back and the gain has been moved...tell them to kick bricks!
@@sikbaggers Helping a buddy out with his 2013 street glide but i don't do bikes - how much power do i have to play with on these bikes - i know the stator is 30A at 1000rpm and 54A max but how much does the bike use - his system is crap and im looking to spec out a new one from the ground up but i don't want to stress the charging circuit
Hi Steve have several questions and cannot find a utube that is specific to it... 1 - Do I have to use the Power Yellow and the Remote Blue cable if my Amp already has it ? Meaning all I will need to connect is the Speaker wire. 2 - I have the PAC LP7-4 L.O.C. PRO Series 4-Channel device, I'm only going to tap in the front speakers, so I will use 2 channel on the PAC, can I just twist the other two channels together ? Meaning I will use the White and Gray for the 2 channels, can I just twist the Green to the White and the Purple to the Gray for all 4 channels and then go all 4 channels to my amp RCA ? 3 - The the Gain on the PAC will only have the adjustment on one side which is the Right and Left Rear Or Front ? or would I need to adjust both Gains to the same ?
you would have tro butcher your pod pretty good to get that rubber surround on that magnet in there to fit. Its a decent speaker but its marine grade and these pods wont usually fit PRO Audio Marine Grades like that
heavier gauge wire for the bigger amp...stock is 12. Use any online chart to see how much your amps is pushing vs how long the wire is and itll show you the gauge you need.
Doing it this way will not require anything to be flashed...however if you want a cleaner "flattened" sound you can have them set it to 4 channel no amp...thats all the flash is...they plug it in, go to the drop down menu and select whatever they want and it sets the audio out levels on the radio....That being said I have never had one flashed. And using the right amp and speakers you will have a huge improvement over the stock harley junk.
Thanks, that's a great video. It's very detailed and informative. How would I go about wiring in a pair of speakers into my saddlebags on my 2017 Street Glide Special with that same set up?
Hi Steven great video. Question I'm upgrading my audio system in my 202 street glide special with new Boom Box radio, my Amp already comes with high line inputs foe each channel, How can determine which wire from the oem speaker wire is positive and which is the negative?
The larger spade on the bikes wiring will be positive ..but a simple test can be done to find positive. if you have a volt meter, put it on AC volts and touch it on the speaker connections to find + and -. If you get +12v that is correct, if you get -12v that is backwards. This will help you identify + and - on the speaker.
Ever have a fob issue after install comp!ete. I have everything connected sounding good but now I have a security issue turm bike on and nothing jiggle a few wires no more fob issue leave it sit same thing turn the key bike is locked jiggle wires unlocked I'm stumped
no I havent man...sorry...Sounds like a loose wire for sure...if you are wiggling it and its working id start checking all the connections. Also you may pick up some dielectric grease and hit all the terminals to make sure everything is getting a good contact.
No,,,not with this basic amp install..doesnt really need it..now that being said if you plan on pushing more than 350 watts to each speaker then yes...or if you are using a DSP, then yes, flatten it. But this install is fine with this size amp.
any suggestions on a replacement speaker that will fit into the stock location for the rear speakers in a 14 Electra glide. I ordered the speakers you recommended for the front which fit however they will not fit in the rear locations
Hey Steve, first of all you definitely have the best looking videos and comprehensive list of diy stuff out there. I have a quick question... I already have some Infinity Kappa 62IX 6.5" 2 ohm...these should work good with the rest of your set up shouldn't they? Thanks for any and all info, love your channel man keep it up for us with thick skulls. 💀
Thank you Jeffrey..sorry for thr late reply...been down wit the flu for a couple of weeks. And yes the 6.5 kappas will work great..thats a great speaker. Just watch running 2 ohm speakers if you start adding speakers to them like in series...that will cause you to draw 1 ohm and then most amps are not 1 ohm stable.
Got a question. I have a 14 street glide. The kappa 6.5 ix flange was to thick. The speaker box side mount bolt holes wouldn't line up. How did you get them to line up?
Im not much of a boom audio guy but you can check your specs on your amps and try to stay in that spec range for your speakers. You want to stay in the watts and ohms range of that amp. I would say any pro audio speaker will be an upgrade form the boom stuff...Ive torn out a lot of boom audio...thousands of dollars worth and replaced it all with new amps and speakers..but if you are wanting to salvage the amps just find out the specs and stay in that range and pick a better speaker
does matching the voltage on the LOC eliminate clipping? i installed the same setup without the LOC and the speakers cut off when i turn it up over halfway
well..im not sure thats whats causing your clipping to be honest but it should be matched anyway or you will get distortion. The voltage should be matched to the radio...best way to check is turn it down and see if it stops clipping
no i have to either turn the bike off and on or unplug the speakers from the amp and plug them back in to gwt sound again once it cuts off the speakers. i've order the LOC you used in this video once i get it i'll take my bike to a professional. great video, thanks!
Sorry if this has been asked and answered…if I’m just planning on doing the 2 fairing speakers with the amp in your parts list do I go with the 4 or 8 ohm speakers?
hey now worries ill try to explain it...if you get a 4 channel bridgable amp you and get the 8 ohm speakers and bridge the amp to 2 channel....meaning using all 4 channel on 2 speakers..that would bring the load down in half..from 8 ohm to 4 ohm draw from the amp. The amp should be 4ohm stable bridgeable amp. Adding more speakers later will effect this though. So make sure you only want the fairing speakers and never plan on adding more..if you do you will have to change the amp more than likely. There are a ton of variables that come into play.
@Jeff Burgess Its your choice but it will sound like crap if its not flashed and you already have the amp installed. Another words if you do it after do not play it long or loud until that has been flashed.
General questions, first you have two different speakers listed on your link. I am looking to add two batwing fairing speakers and maybe later adding advant speaker lids? Will this amp handle both sets of speakers?
yes..one is 8 ohm and one is 4 ohm....it depends on your set up or what your final set up will be as to what ohm ou purchase. if you are going to 4 speakers I would get a sound digital 800.4
Im curious, your using car speakers to mount in a bike? Isnt there water issues with that? The amp your using has high inputs so why add the line out converter?
Hey, Steve! Maybe you can help me with this issue that I have. I recently bought a original Tourpack with all the harness. But, I have a StreetGlide Special 2015 and I want to use all the controllers in the tourpack. I didnt find any video on RUclips that teaches how to install the propper way or the schematic to build a harness the propper way. Do you know how to do that? I really need the help. Thanks, brother!
Real simple question before I take you're advice and try this install. My 2017 Ultra Limited has 2 Ohms speakers in the front and in the back. If I upgrade the wiring to all four speakers and install the new 8 Ohms in front and the 4 Ohms in the rear, I shouldn't run into any problem using the setup you're describing as long as I'm using my stock radio and I don't already have a factory amp installed. Would that be correct? Thank you for your time and the video's
@@sikbaggers I figured 3 amps and more than likely 30 amp fuses on the amp gives you an idea how much current each amp will pull...figure around 20 or so amps each plus the bike itself lights ignition etc...i figured that stock charging system is getting taxed big time
Thank you for the video. I see some amps that say you need to 'Flash' the stock unit, and other amps that say no flash needed. Can you comment on the difference, what flashing is, and what you recommend.
OK my question is all the stock Speakers on my 2018 roadglide ultra are 2 ohm speakers But I'm going to keeping the stock head unit. If i use A line converter Am I able to convert to a 4 ohm amp and speakers with no problems ????
I’ve got a 2007 Electra glide classic, original stereo and two front speakers only. I’d like to upgrade stereo and speakers... POSSIBLY add two trunk speakers...$600 max budget. Can you advise (which brand)? I’m. guessing I’d have to add an amp if I go with the two trunk speakers... thanks for all you do. I’ve already successfully put lights on following another video of yours.
hey I see you tell everyone to get your bike flashed if you change the amp . I have a 2018 SGS.But then I read a reply that you can do a manual " flash". So is that a way to get around the flash
Thanks Steven, another great video. If I just wanted to change my speakers on a 2014 ultra limited, (stock system) is there anything special that would need to be done?
Hey Tim...sorry I missed this comment man...But no its all the same inside there. Biggest pain is to get those pods out to change the speakers. other than that swap them out and use the eq on the head unit to make them sound as good as you can with no distortion at high volumes. Distortion causes heat and heat destroys speakers.
You dont have to have it "flashed" but it helps with flattening the EQ on the stock radio so you can tune it with a DSP...if you dont plan on running a DSP I wouldnt worry about it
Yeah never heard of them but I see them on jp cycles now..cant really give an opinion other than your going to be paying out a lot for any plug and play kit...usually the components are worth about half the price and the rest is convenience ..im always warry of any plug and play kit to be honest.
Hey Brother, I added a DSR, a sound steam amp , lowers w/ speakers. I keep getting an amp pop. So I bought a delay module and it isn’t working. Any help would be very helpful!
Hey thanks for the video. How did you mount the amp to the tray in the fairing? I got the same setup but I cannot figure out how to best mount that amp since its too big to sit down in the tray.
i use tool box liners from any hardware store...cut it too fit so there is no vibration between the amp and tray and then big zip ties or double sided sticky velcro strips. You zip it down good and it wont move

Renewed Sound Digital 800.4 EVO-X amp amzn.to/4dGfHFj or new amzn.to/4e15y6B PRV Midrange Speakers - amzn.to/4gWpp9s Line Output Converter - amzn.to/4exZnb3 Youll need amp install gear...power wire, ground wire, connectors, inline fuse, remote wire and 2 rca cables. Here are the links for the ones I use. 8 gauge wire +/- amzn.to/3NpP8cO 8 GA 1/4 inch rings - amzn.to/3YnliMC RCA Cables - amzn.to/3YpA5VV Inline Fuse - amzn.to/487fKZV Blue Remote Wire 18 GA - amzn.to/487LGgp
Do you have to get the radio flash using that line output converter? Also will that line output converter work with sound digital amplifier?
Having your radio flashed will flatten the outputs creating better sound for your amplifier to work with. however you do not have to do it.
I have a street glide special do I need to flash the head unit for this install
Dumb question, but where do you hook the ground wire and power wire for the amp
Hook your power wire straight to the battery. You can run the ground to the battery but I prefer to run it to the frame ground where the battery is grounded. Follow the black wire down under your starter from your battery. There is a 7/16th bolt that grounds your battery to the frame. remove that (its kind of tough to get to) and add your ground wire there. To make it easier to get to remove your oil dipstick, and the starter cover. Its on the end of your starter and one single small bolt in the middle. there is nothing behind it..its just a beauty cover. then you can access that bolt much easier. I hope this helps.
Hows the amp bolt on radio?
On the line output convertor where did you run the yellow wire to?
Yellow wire can go to any key on wire..aux port works great...you will need to extend the wire.
Which of the line output converter do I need? Going to run 6.5 prvs in the fairing and 6x9 prv in bags. 2 channel? 4 channel? Remote turn on circuit? Thanks for the input!

@@sikbaggers thanks man!
@@sikbaggers one more question, is a flash nessassary?
I’d like to see you do a road king step by step with lowers and saddle bags can’t find one on RUclips
Hey B! Thanks for checking it out man...and when I get another one in here I will do that...ive done several and never really had a chance to do a video on it as they are kind of time consuming to do.
Great video thanks, very helpful, but the speakers has no tweeters, will still sound good?
a good mid range will sound great in the front without tweeters...you can always bump it up to something is more full range or add tweeters to mirror holes and move your mirrors to the handlebars..if your bike is a RG then you can buy new grills with tweeters in them.
Do I need a converter to add an amp?
So I got a question; with the AMP connected directly to battery will what will keep the AMP from drawing down the battery?
The amp won't start drawing power until the remote wire sees power to turn the amp on.
Is there a link for those plugs with the special tool on amazon ?
yes sir...right here smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B077VGG18B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 you can also purchase the ferrels and pliers separately
What is the size and brand of the windscreen. I like the low profile look
I have a 2021 Electra Glide Standard. This bike comes with no head unit or speakers. I am planning to do the exact set up you are doing here. My question is this the bike comes pre wired to plug my after market head unit directly into it. Since I am using the aftermarket head unit and its never had the stock head unit in it does it need to be flashed?
im going to say yes on that,....harley will need to turn everything on...its not really a flash per say but they open up the wiring and turn it all on
Hello @sikbaggers what is your current speaker and amp recommendation (with only 2 faring speakers) now 3 years later? I noticed a year or so ago you recommended a different speaker. Thanks
yes ive switched to the PRV 6MR500-NDY-4 amzn.to/44KF4kQ and pair that with a Sound Digital EVOX 800.4 amzn.to/44IQSUH

Good video,,,,I would have liked to have seen Before and After,,,
i'm pretty confused on a 4 channel with high level input conversion built in and still used a line level converter - if the head unit and/or speaker wires are that noisy i think id just switch head units - props for speaking up about amp gain - i still check with a cheap scope - even some of the cheap graphing multi-meters are handy for level setting and to make sure you're not clipping
Hi Steve have several questions and cannot find a utube that is specific to
it...
1 - Do I have to use the Power Yellow and the Remote Blue cable if my
Amp already has it ? Meaning all I will need to connect is the Speaker
wire.
2 - I have the PAC LP7-4 L.O.C. PRO Series 4-Channel device, I'm only
going to tap in the front speakers, so I will use 2 channel on the PAC,
can I just twist the other two channels together ? Meaning I will use
the White and Gray for the 2 channels, can I just twist the Green to the
White and the Purple to the Gray for all 4 channels and then go all 4
channels to my amp RCA ?
3 - The the Gain on the PAC will only have the adjustment on one side which is the Right and Left Rear Or Front ? or would I need to adjust both Gains to the same ?
Where did you ground your line output converter to?? Thanks
Its best to run a ground back under the tank and ground it somewhere on the frame.
Will this same setup work with a 2018 ultra classic
Awesome video, thanks!!
does this also work for new newer harley GTS radios as well? im wanting some better sound but not 2k plus worth really.. thanks
Yes it is the exact same concept regardless of the radio
Would a 2017 street glide be the same for the most part?
Awesome video. Very very helpful. Subscribed!
would a DS18 PRO-ZT6 6.5-Inch 2 Way Pro Audio Midrange Speakers with Built-in Bullet Tweeter, 4-Ohms be a good choice for a motorcyle
you would have tro butcher your pod pretty good to get that rubber surround on that magnet in there to fit. Its a decent speaker but its marine grade and these pods wont usually fit PRO Audio Marine Grades like that
Why change the speaker wires? What did that do to make the installation easier or better?
heavier gauge wire for the bigger amp...stock is 12. Use any online chart to see how much your amps is pushing vs how long the wire is and itll show you the gauge you need.
@@sikbaggers Thanks! Fantastic information!
Sir, when you install an amplifier do you have to flash the stock Harley radio? Thank you.
With installing this system did the factory radio need to be reflashed? I have a 2020 street glide special
Is that an Advanblack inner fairing? I’ve heard they don’t line up well with the HD stock outter fairing??
Anyone have video what it sounds like?
Did you tie both the remote wire for the amp and remote for the LOC into the aux wire?
yes..you can do that.
Are you not getting the stock radio reflashed to a flat EQ curve before installation?
No,,,not with this basic amp install..doesnt really need it..now that being said if you plan on pushing more than 350 watts to each speaker then yes...or if you are using a DSP, then yes, flatten it. But this install is fine with this size amp.
any suggestions on a replacement speaker that will fit into the stock location for the rear speakers in a 14 Electra glide. I ordered the speakers you recommended for the front which fit however they will not fit in the rear locations
Sorry for the late reply, just got back from Sturgis , are you referring to the rear speaker pods on the tour pack?
@@sikbaggers yes i am referring to the rear sock speaker pods

Have you ever installed the new 400 amp RF in the saddlebags like HD specs? Mine was installed by dealeship and has come off twice ( the amp)
Ahh no I have not...I tend to stay away from anything RF outside of their Digital Sound Processor.
Did you use marine speakers
My bike already has the boom audio II system front and saddle bags 2 amps, came with the bike. What can I do about upgrading just the speakers?
There are a ton of variables that come into play.
should I get my radio flashed before I start hooking up the amp and speakers to my stock radio? 2020 road glide special
@@sikbaggers Can I replace my factory passenger speakers also, 2021 Ultra limited with the same type ones I am putting in fairing?
@@sikbaggers and thanks so much for your videos, nice to see someone take the time and explain it!!
Hi, what would you recommend for amp and speakers for a 2018 Tri Glide using stock radio?
Im curious, your using car speakers to mount in a bike? Isnt there water issues with that? The amp your using has high inputs so why add the line out converter?
What is the line out converter for if u have 4 volts out of the radio
the LOC is used when adding an amplifier to a factory radio to convert the radio's speaker level output to the lower amplifier (RCA) level input
Did you do this?
When you mentioned the streetglide having 3 amps and 10 speakers...how does the charging system handle the amplifier load?
It handles it great...same set up on my RG with even bigger amps and no issues. Upgraded battery to a EarthX lithium
You will need a 2 ohm stable amp...the 4ohm amp will play the 2ohm but it will struggle with the load.
OK thank you for the information I've been curious about that I've been looking at 2 ohm speakers But I feel like I can't find decent ones on a budget
Im installing a set of hertz mpx 165.3 and a RF t400x4ad
correction its a RF t400x2ad
Thanks Steven, another great video. If I just wanted to change my speakers on a 2014 ultra limited, (stock system) is there anything special that would need to be done?
Hey Tim...sorry I missed this comment man...But no its all the same inside there. Biggest pain is to get those pods out to change the speakers. other than that swap them out and use the eq on the head unit to make them sound as good as you can with no distortion at high volumes. Distortion causes heat and heat destroys speakers.
What kind of tweeters are those in the bag lids?
There were no tweeter in the bag lids on this bike so im not sure what your asking about?
Hey man appreciate the video!! I have a 2015 ultra would I need my radio flashed for the amp? Thanks for the help! And safe riding
You dont have to have it "flashed" but it helps with flattening the EQ on the stock radio so you can tune it with a DSP...if you dont plan on running a DSP I wouldnt worry about it
Hey.. Any problems with amp not turning on when bike is started???..Sometimes😏
no, not at all...check your remote wire and make sure it had a good connection...then check your ground..these two things can cause that
What’s your opinion on the wild boar kit with the 400 watt amp for my 2020 street glide any hood

When is it popping?
Hey thanks for the video. How did you mount the amp to the tray in the fairing? I got the same setup but I cannot figure out how to best mount that amp since its too big to sit down in the tray.
i use tool box liners from any hardware store...cut it too fit so there is no vibration between the amp and tray and then big zip ties or double sided sticky velcro strips. You zip it down good and it wont move
After doing this install do I have to flash my stock radio
Set your stock radio to flat on the eq if you have one and turn off the speed/volume and youll be fine.
