A correction. Although, this is a state highway, but the planning and majority funding is being done by the Central govt while the state has a minority stake. The executing agency is WBHDCL, but it is maintained by PWD not KMDA, which was its earlier nodal agency. Per the current rules, all state highways in Bengal are maintained by the PWD. The Centre has a special focus on this highway as it serves as a connector to NH12 and cuts a big chunk of traffic from it, which caused multiple bottlenecks from Esplanade till Barasat previously. Reason why we can see such gigantic work being done with lightning fast speed, a rarity in Bengal. Also, to cut traffic jam at another bottleneck point, i.e. Farakka barrage, a secondary bridge is being constructed beside it, which is being carried out just within a year and is nearing completion. They'll probably open it next year. Wish, Bengal too had such an able and impressive administration. Alas!
