- Hoping this information helps - my vehicle is a 2004 AWD Astro - the bushing inside the cages is slid back a 1/4" or so - this is NOT how the 2WD mounts come - your parts dealers computers will tell you/them it's the same part number, it NOT the same part... I'm going to go with the Prothane polyurethane bushing kit and possibly some custom steel plates I'll make myself - I know how information and visuals together can really help people to understand things more clearly 😎

I have an 04 AWD. Just did the 4wd conversion from Journeys. Love it. Not to complicated. Next is one of the shorter lift kits. while i was under the van I noticed my oil pan was close. I called Journeys and talked to the Tech Mike who has been a lot of help. He says they are coming out with a solution and to check their website in a couple weeks.Worth a look.
yeah, they seem to be the people to deal with, their products for the most part are pretty good, their work quality not so great in my case - Some of us are working on the engine lift idea right now, we'll have it dialed in very soon

I appreciate your video on this subject very much....keeping it strongly in mind. Great tips! Getting my mounts replaced on Wednesday and asking for the OEM mounts to be returned to me because I expect the new ones to fail in the future. I will have the OEMs so I can put the Prothane insertsin them later. I have an '04 2WD. It was a cargo van converted to a light camper van. I love it.
Glad i came across this video. I will be changing out my engine mounts later this week. No doubt the ones that come in will probably will not be as good. Assuming the ones on my 2002 are the original, I will keep the cages like you said and if my new ones ever start to fail I hope they will still be making them polyurethane inserts you talked about.
Watch all my video's on this - I'll be doing an experiment soon with the rubber mounts where I'm going to shim them with rubber cut from other mounts I have but also offset the placement of the center of the hole to compensate for the torque of the engine.
When shopping for the replacement mounts try to find the thickest cage with the least amount of gap on either side - A real smart thing to do would be to do what I'm planning to do; drill them out and separate the cages, buy the appropriate hardened bolts, nuts and lock washers, make some shim material (from anything, really) and bolt everything back together with the rear 3/8" offset (for the AWD - assuming that's what you have) and consider the idea of offsetting the placement of the bushings to compensate for the torque of the engine wanting to pull the engine down on the passenger side - you'd shim the left side of the driverside mount and shim the left side on the passenger side mount

I have a 2000 2 wd astro and i replaced my mounts with the napa type what a difference great rude again no clicks bumps or vibrations

The Chevy Astros and GMC Safaris are trucks, not mini-vans. Sad day when they were discontinued and nothing has ever replaced them. My everyday driver for the past 16 years is my 1999 GMC Safari. Just passed 536K on the odometer and still running well, but thinking about replacement. At three times the original cost of a Safari, the only vehicles that come close are the Suburban, Yukon and Tahoe. Even these lack the cargo capacity and general utility of the Astros & Safaris.
I LOVE hearing from people who have decades of experience with these things - I really wish I had "discovered" them 20 years ago - I always noticed them but just didn't make it happen... I'm so into this '04 it's kind of crazy - I hope you find the time to see my other videos on what I'm up to with it - Plan to drive across the country again in a couple weeks.... Alaska next year - This is my only vehicle so it's my everything
@@AstroVanTribe Over the years I've probably replaced everything that is attached to the engine, but the original 4.3 ltr. engine, the transmission and differential have never been opened for repairs...Bullet Proof!
@@chrisgraham2904 My transmission went on me on a return cross country trip, I was in Tuscon - Had a Jasper transmission put in it - It's like a new truck... (combine with having replaced all the bushings and other suspension parts, cv axles, etc...) I plan to have this thing for a very long time
I strongly recommend that you upgrade the electrical/starting system with "the Big Three". You'll find information on that and anything Astro/Safari at; www.astrosafari.com
I have Energy Suspension Poly Bushings. I’m not sold on them but I’d love to run as much Energy Suspension as possible.

Thanks for the information hopefully the part numbers will be the same for mine I have changed mine over to four-wheel-drive with a 6 inch lift I am not in need of them as of yet but I am going to start the search. Thanks again for getting back to me so quick

Hey Michael, I have a 2wd model. Do you see the same issues happening with these? I didn't look at my mounts yet, I was just thinking about getting it done.
Totally different issues - the ones available work for 2WD Astros - the tip is to fill/shim the gaps on both sides of the bushing
