I have really enjoyed Deadwind! It's episodes don't give anything away. Karrpi & Nurmi work together well. They compliment one another. They show will a great addition to a detective thriller that always gets their criminal. I admire Karrpi's motivation & how Nurmi protects her. Good show.
A couple of comments on a couple series you reviewed. I felt you were a bit harsh on Deadwind. I really enjoyed it and found the acting top notch. The plots were a bit of a reach. Getting a bit tired of corporate corruption in too many plots and the rebellious step-daughter angle is getting a bit tired as well, but overall despite the plot falling down a few rabbit holes the 3 seasons worked for me. Also I felt Fauda deserved higher in your top 10 than 6. I really thought the acting was excellent and did not have a problem with the relationships or the sex. Given the stress not unlike soldiers in any war, booze and a quick roll in the hay (or in this case, the sand) helps to mitigate the stress. I would have put Fauda at 5 and dropped A Very Secret Service to 9 or 10. I found that one pretty average. But to each his own. Keep em coming. My Netflix viewing would be hit or miss without your reviews.
Love this show but can’t remember plot and characters while I prep for season 2. Then again, I’ve watched over 30 foreign shows on Netflix that year. This show is great

Watched both seasons. It's quite good, esp. it's maintenance of tone and atmosphere. Yes, the theme is terrific. As for Nobel, I'm having trouble with the reiteration of Muslim stereotypes. Lead actor is quite good, but I'm not sure I can stomach the politics. Also, not a noir. Thanks for recs on Bordertown, Tabula Rasa, etc.

No offense intended, my statement about “ personal expectations “ was intended for no one in particular, I have noticed that people in general, put a personal desire on a program line, I do it myself. I’m also guilty. But I watch many foreign shows from other Countries, and I have to say that I just do not agree with you that it wasn’t well written, I had no issues with it . But that was my own personal experience, I enjoy your reviews, I’m a fan!❤️🤍💙
I think you came into this series expecting a lot and compared it to other shows often. I went into the show with zero expectations, just wanted to learn more about the language and ended up loving the series. Of course it wasn’t astounding as other Nordic Noir shows but for what it is, it’s still very entertaining. Also, half your video was just ranting on other people’s journalism. I wish you could’ve just actually reviewed the show as it is without mentioning other shows.
Season 2 of Deadwind just became available in the U.S. I enjoyed Season 1 but Season 2 did not engage me. Bordertown was amazing but the third season was very difficult to watch.
There are inconsistencies regarding Nurmi's character in the parts of the Deadwind script. but before diving into the mine in the lake where the nuclear waste is located, he got out of his car under the rain, rubbed some drugs into his mouth and spit out. This is an inconsistency. In the 3rd season, while he was offended with Karppi for 1.5 years and he was still working as a police officer, he confessed to Karppi again that he and 17-year-old Nea messed with his head in a nightclub and that Nea had stolen drugs from him. Why was Nurmi depressed at that time? Why did he distract himself in the nightclub in the swamp of alcohol and drugs? Nerve pain can't be the cause. The person who should be in the main depression is Karppi, but he never lost himself, he did nothing wrong. He did not seek solace in alcohol, drugs or men. He acted very mature and with character. While he was on good terms with Nurmi, his stepdaughter Henna was imprisoned with intrigue. His son was given to his grandfather. She was alone and Nurmi never spoke to her, she did not support her in this process. Therefore, the behavior of Nurmi's character is full of contradictions.....
Stupid idea to compare everything with Bridge... Don't put labels on the TV Series because of its origin, language, etc. This series is interesting by itself, aside of Bridge and Scandinavian noir stereotype... This series are deep, constantly changing and evolving tale about two detectives from Helsinki, two unhappy human beings who has no one to count on to, except themselves and each other. It is good, complicated in a way. People's relationship is described there in a very distingue manner without the Hollywood stamps. It is just not for everybody to notice though.
It sounds like you're telling me... but you should be telling the bloggers. Season 2 of this show was heaps better (apart from the red paint as blood 😆 )
Im deciding on a foreign mystery show to sink my teeth into on these winter nights. Just started the Polish show the Mire on netflix, two episodes in and enjoying it. Might take a look at Deadwind next. Your reviews are excellent and great observation about some of the lazy journalism and attitudes to foreign language drama.
First off Sir.. Bravo Bravo. Your rant was spot on in every possible way. I am so glad that I found the link to your review here. I am very cosmopolitan in my interests, and enjoy good cinema and TV series from a good number of Western countries. I am an American, Anglophile, and dabble in learning German. I found the Finish language interesting enough to research its origin and language family. I did so because I thought Finnish sounded like one of the "Romantic" languages in some ways. I definitely look forward to more of your reviews. One other thing. I find that some "professional reviewers" of a certain age, and many of the viewing public. Are not very sophisticated in their viewing tastes. They give five stars to some of the most mundane, and ridiculous garbage. Lastly, the Entertainment industry is guilty of employing subpar script writers, at the behest of production companies that have no problem producing garbage that the undiscerning, usual young, audiences lap up with glee.🙄😒 I am going to add my own review.. (rant🤣) of seasons one and two of Deadwind here in the comments. I understand if you delete it from the comments here. Again, I do look forward to your future reviews, because you do champion quality viewing entertainment. I wish you continued success.. and "Live long and prosper"🖖😉
👍👍 Thank you.😊 Fyi, I just finished the 3rd and final season of the German series "Dark". I watched all three seasons but found it "quit a slog". I lost track of just about what every character was doing and why, most of the time. I stuck with it, and was okay with the ending without giving any spoilers. A couple of years ago, I had abdominal surgery, and my surgeon was a lovely lady from Iceland. Obviously, the operation was a success👍👍😁 My daughter said.. "Wow! Karppi is a good show, I enjoyed. Quite bad review to be honest. You don't review the show at all here, just rant about some other reviewers and their wrong words. I'm waiting for third season! :) And you compare it to masterpiece like the killing, the bridge, both are really master pieces. Karppi ain't a master piece, but its still enjoyable. I like how it has all the time new investigation going on. Bit plot and problems in family side. The main character for sure is huge part of the show. Filming, music, feeling all good. There are much worse crime series than karppi and would recommend it for someone who liked the bridge for example. Please next time compare at least compare to something new. Everyone has seen master pieces you are talking which are quite old already.

This is a fairly entertaining police drama. The acting is good, and the main plots in the two first seasons are involving. Also, where so many "police procedural" dramas feature a small team of ace detectives, with no support from other officers or services. Have to take on dangerous and complicated crimes completely on their own. Probably because of budgetary restraints on the production companies. This series does have a bigger budget feel with more extras playing the part of SWAT teams, and uniformed officers. The downside of the series is its use of the wayward, recalcitrant teenage daughter, and other old melodrama tropes. Every time one of the main characters goes off to investigate a clue or a location. You know that they will be placed in dire jeopardy. But this simplistic drama device is continually used, to my personal annoyance. So this is a decent police drama with stale 1980's tropes.
I remember watching this one, but I don't recall any specifics of the plot. Interestingly, my reaction at the time was pretty much identical to the other post's (below).
Yeah he nailed it. This show was all style... which I guess is something. But it annoys me when people treat everything from Europe, particularly the north, as being of the same calibre as the... hm, let's call them The Scandi-Icelandic 4 (The Bridge, The Killing, Nobel, Trapped).
Hi Sir, I have a question for you. Considering that you are obviously a young adult. As an adult who is over the media treasured and targeted age group of the 21 to 49's. I wonder why so many Western society Entertainment production companies. Create countless numbers of films and TV programs, that are directed towards the below 49 year old age groups? Conventional knowledge states that most young people don't watch as much TV as their elders, if at all. It is also said that most of them prefer to watch media on RUclips, and many don't have TV's. While older people do watch TV and have more money to spend on entertainment. Aside from your reviews, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts from time to time. About the Entertainment industry, and current trends in Film and TV productions. I hope you will consider this, and wish you every possible success and good heath in the future. Since I hate seeing people do stupid things, because the writers aren't very creative, and, like the second season of "Border town". I really don't care about the characters at all). @@lamontmcleod2 Thanks for your reply Sir. I was a little concerned after I took my guess, and considered that you might actually have been a mature looking senior in Secondary school. I had the same experience that you had with your son. I was in a candy shop with my two daughters, aged about 11 and 13. I was 35. The lady that owned the store said that she thought we were bother and sisters, until she heard them call me "Daddy"😊 Those days are gone for me now. Bad knees and the "Whoa!!!"😲 When looking in the mirror in the morning.🙄😊 in other news - I had to give up on the second season of "Bordertown" I got really annoyed with the teenage daughter characters, especially the Russian one at the end of episode three I believe. I'm watching an Acorn company "Police drama" from Denmark called "The Sommerdahl Murders". I like the main character and his cop buddy's interaction. Sadly, a domestic subplot is included which I don't care about. The acting is good and there is no English language dubbing. Lastly, I almost gave up on the second season of Amazon Prime Video''s "Hannah". The first two or three episodes were "see Hannah fight, fight fight fight.. See Hannah run.. run run run.. See Hannah make stupid decisions, that are contrary to her training". But I hung in, and the plot got progressively better. The mainly female acting cast is quite good. Lastly, I wish you and your loved ones a healthy and pleasant weekend. Thank you again for your reply. Bye for now.👍👍😊
I'm only on S01x05 but I hate Kurmi and I'm shocked that people want him to get together with Sofia. All he does is undercut her authority with some blatant sexism like saying shit like "you look like you started having kids young." Are you serious? That's how you talk to your lead supervisor!? Also, he knew she didn't shoot the bad guy other than the fact that it was her last choice. He doesn't tell her boss. Instead, he allows her boss to trample on her. I HATE him so much. It only seems that people like him because he's good looking. He's a terrible person to her. I don't ship them at all.
Did you watch it dubbed or with subtitles? Because in Finnish he says "oh so you started having kids pretty young?" because Karppi just told him that Henna is almost 18 and Karppi herself is in her thirties. He doesn't say anything about her looks in that scene. Maybe your opinion has changed now that you've seen more :)
I don't know what bit you're talking about, but you might be referring to something in the description? If so then I type them really fast, normally at 2 in the morning or something. I don't claim that they are perfect, and "it's" versus "its" is my most common mistake. I am of the dangerous opinion that English ought not to have apostrophes (not because I am not good with them, rather because they are pointless).
@@justemichel Ah yeah, I do that a lot. Also I was hesitant about the spelling of "nought" but I never spellcheck descriptions, because they are a necessary evil waste of time haha. Remember that we must never ever leave a space before ? and ! in English... It's hard to describe just how strange that looks to us native speakers, it might be like me typing: "c'ést"... Like, tiny difference, but the use of "c'est" is so common that you would notice it instantly.
@@lamontmcleod2 I looked for the exact meaning of nought (nothing came out but the spelling looks perfect). I didn't remember about English rule for ? and ! Thank you for pointing that to me. I read the same goes for ; : .
@@justemichel (Sorry I keep being on a different account when I reply): Yes, the same goes for semi-colons; and colons: Sometimes in legal documents, a space before a colon will indicate a specific meaning but only lawyers would understand it. "Nought" is normally used for the number 0, whereas "naught" is meant to be the spelling for the way I used it; but I was getting it from an old traditional hymn which says: "Nought be all else to me save that thou art." This nought/naught thing is very complicated haha. But actually in that hymn line that I wrote, "save" in an interesting word. As you would know, it normally means "save me from the fire" or whatever. But in this context it means "except", and it has come from "sauf". 😀 I don't know if you've ever noticed "save" used in that way... it's not very common but yeah it's interesting that it's come from the French, yet is spelled the same way as the "save me from the fire" thing.
I tried dead wind and quit after two episodes😅😅 seems I didn’t miss much. And they’re comparing the lead to saga Norén?? The disrespect!😂 I found it really boring
The actress never smiled at all in the series ..never .. very cold actress ..she is probably the worst actress in Finland.. even the relation between her and her daughter in the serious is very cold .. regardless of non-sence talks or actions that she did .the direction of the serious would be better if they just improve the scenario. Again .. this actress were so cold . Same clothes all the time .

Bye for now.👍👍😊
Love Public Noire
@@Sipu97 I was watching the subtitled one. I don’t remember I posted a year ago.
@@Deroliebe Yikes, sounds like it was poorly subtitled
Hopefully the second DW season will do better for your taste: ruclips.net/video/fm3S6nvzUEM/видео.html
Thanks. This series lacked drama massively, so if they could fix that then it'd be worth watching.
It's its not it's. Was the Russian guy right after all ? I don't think so. Typo warning.
@@daysandwords I argue that Deadwind is nought but a shadow of *it's* Swedish, Danish, Norwegian and Icelandic mates' offerings.
@@justemichel (Sorry I keep being on a different account when I reply):
Yes, the same goes for semi-colons; and colons:
Sometimes in legal documents, a space before a colon will indicate a specific meaning but only lawyers would understand it.
"Nought" is normally used for the number 0, whereas "naught" is meant to be the spelling for the way I used it; but I was getting it from an old traditional hymn which says: "Nought be all else to me save that thou art."
This nought/naught thing is very complicated haha.
But actually in that hymn line that I wrote, "save" in an interesting word. As you would know, it normally means "save me from the fire" or whatever. But in this context it means "except", and it has come from "sauf".
😀
I don't know if you've ever noticed "save" used in that way... it's not very common but yeah it's interesting that it's come from the French, yet is spelled the same way as the "save me from the fire" thing.
I tried dead wind and quit after two episodes😅😅 seems I didn’t miss much. And they’re comparing the lead to saga Norén?? The disrespect!😂
I found it really boring
It really only kicks in after episode 2.
I was engaged from the jump street, but you know, that’s how it really is, everyone has a different response 💙
You do realise that this is deliberate right?
It's called Nordic Noir not Nordic Happy Fun Times.
