    You passed over best garden tractor cart.
    Simplicity carts were first made for walk behind tractors optional seat and park brakes for them. The axle is pinned to frame and is designed for compact storage. Frame has 2 pivot points to allow for complete dump of material no matter the turan. Vac covers slide on from the back for quick attachment changes.
    Weight capacity is really good. Tailgate can be fixed or top hinged.
    I buy them whenever they're close by.

    Norman. I currently have a Ford {Gilson} 17H Lawn & Garden Tractor that the mounting ears are broken off the aluminum transaxle casting. To explain further; Where the transmission bolts actually pass through the frame railing into the round ears which are actually part of the transaxle casting - The aluminum ears are completely missing which means that the transaxle has no support whatsoever. The lower shifter is unique in that there is a High & Low range for the hydrostatic transmission with the forward reverse lever being located at the right o the steering wheel on the console. This Ford/Gilson tractor has the Kohler KT17 engine which was commonly used with Cub Cadet and John Deere tractors around the same time period this tractor was manufactured..The transmission was doctored up to make it work somewhat normal when I purchased the tractor. Actually, I was very pleased with the tractor until one day the driveline went into a terrible bind. After a close inspection, I noticed what had happened much to my disgust tractor. I looked into possibly fabricating maybe different mounting brackets - But there’s really nowhere else that you can use. So this tractor is pretty much useless in its present condition as you would imagine. Norman, In your stash of Fords, Do you have any of the Gilson manufactured tractors like I described? I have found little to no information on this tractor. Of Course, I guess that I could use the KT17 engine on my 682 Cub Cadet should my KT17 Series 2 should go south - But would much rather try to get the Ford back into service if possible rather than it sitting on blocks taking up space.

    • @Isavetractors
      @Isavetractors  3 года назад

      You could fabricate a mount that uses u-bolts to the axle tubes, and connect up to your tractor frame.

    • @TheIronDuke502
      @TheIronDuke502 3 года назад

      @@Isavetractors Norman. I had a friend who repairs lawn mowers to give my Ford a look over as a second opinion to mine. After he looked the situation over for a while for a few minutes - My friend who fabricated and repaired lots of stuff in his own right was just as perplexed as I was with the Ford. We both agreed that there was no real area to work at making alternative mounting brackets that was not already spoken for with some moving part of the transmission or disc brake,Etc.
      Someone had fabricated angle brackets that bolted into the axle tube flange bolts to the side of the frame which really didn’t help all that much being that the driveline was binding severely with this supposed fix. We both agreed that it would be nice if the aluminum transaxle was cast iron with more rigid mounting points like the IH Cub Cadets.
      I did happen to find one of the aluminum ears that was broken from the casing in which someone had used JB weld in a futile attempt to glue the ears back on after looking at those areas much closer we indeed found the traces of JB weld on both sides of the casing..
      Sadly Norman, This Ford Garden tractor was totally awesome when I first purchased it for $1000.00 with the hydraulic lift 48 inch mower deck and High/Low range hydrostatic transmission. There were the mounting points on the rear of the tractor for lift arms and top link for a three point hitch. The KT17 Kohler engine had a cold weather breather where you could loosen the wing nut and raise up the breather and divert the breather tube into a small box mounted very near the exhaust manifold for cold weather operation or you could raise up the breather tube out of the enclosure and turn the breather tube away from the enclosure for unheated fresh air for normal warm weather operation. With all of the innovations that Ford/Gilson had on this garden tractor - They obviously didn’t consider that their transmission mounting was destined to fail with the amount of frame flex that this tractor had compared to the other lawn tractors out there. From watching your past videos as well as this video, I knew that you had worked with the Ford lawn and garden tractors. Maybe my misfortune will help to give you some better insight into the failure points on your Ford tractors. I feel that the Ford/Jacobson tractors were much better constructed than my Ford/Gilson was. My friend that I mentioned before told me that he worked on a Gilson garden tractor in which he said was identical to my Ford other than it being whatever color that the Gilsons were. Maybe that’s a very good reason why that you so few of those tractors floating around - Just Saying!!!. I have possibly found another 682 Cub Cadet which I think may be just a little newer than the one that I now have. If my quest for another 682 is successful, The KT17 in the Ford becomes even more valuable as a spare engine. As Always Norman, Thanks So Much For Your Reply. Best Regards From Versailles,Ky.

    I have a Craftsman gt 2 myself only it's older then your's. I have had it over 14 years now and it's been super reliable. I paid 350 for it in 06 and just this past spring I put into it what I paid for it. It does have the 18hp opposed Brigg and Stratton engine in it. No idea how many hours is on it. This fall I bought a berco snowblower for it. Had to make mounting brackets for it but it's on and it works. Haven't had any snow yet to really try it. I plan on keeping this tractor for as long as I can. Now being a fan of Ford's I would love to get a Ford garden tractor. One day I hope to get one. For now my old Craftsman will have to do.

    Still no Power King! I've been finding cheap Kubotas. The four wheel drive is awesome. I recently got a B8200 with loader for $300 - weighs 1,700 pounds. Doesn't run, or rather - I haven't tried to start it - have another running motor. Rebuild kits with pistons and sleeves, bearings cost from $350 Taiwan to $1,000 Kubota dealer parts. Its not so fun buying a set of rear tires as those get spendy. The rear rims/tires for my L275 are the same as Farmall Cub. I like the Ford LGT 195 and Wheel Horse GT 14.

    You’re lucky to have a pretty good source for these things, I found a guy that had 4 old GTs, one was an ariens gt17/18hp magnum swapped I later plucked before I traded the rest of the tractor for a parts 212 w a decent k301 & got the rear axle too that was free if you tow it home I also got a JD116 in the mix & got it going.
    I had blown up the motor on it sadly & had put a good used one I had from another tractor not the m18 I had on hand.
    I had got it going kinda then just got tired of playing w it & when a JD216 came along I got it for $100 & one of the engines I had on hand.
    My brother paid me $100/the tractor so another free tractor which I can’t wait to get I to.

    Greetings Norman. Would you (or any of you subscribers out there) lend a bit of expertise on how to calculate the lateral torque on the axles & frame mounts for track drives such as your half track. I need a system with a significantly larger "foot print" than the AG tires are lending now. Specifically, the "bog like" surface conditions in the manure dump at the barn. I'm thinking tracks would be ideal however, I'd rather not twist the rear end off the machine(s). My "front line" piece is a Craftsman DYT4000 with a Kohler 25. Plenty of power for the work it does but certainly enough to potentially turn it's ass into a pretzel if not designed correctly. Thanks in advance and as always, stay safe . . . John

    I always wondered how a V plow works on a garden tractor. Would be great for taking the first pass down a driveway when you typically push snow to both sides. I wanted to make a wing plow to drop down on the right side too, but Didn't think it would work well enough. Man I'd love to come just walk through your junk yard sometime, but not a lot of Sears tractor in there- I guess i bought most of them in new england :D
    I love the case/ingersolll tractors too, and the 195 is super sweet!

    Hi norm
    I saw a video on a channel of yours some time ago and forgot how I found it
    At that time I as trying to add a push start to my garden tractor
    And the video was about electrical circuits
    I figure I would rather keep the original stuff with out cutting and hacking
    I think there can be a way to stick wires in to the switch to wire up external toggle switches by using the existing system of wires and crimping plugescto the ends of switches and toggles to connect to were the original ignition switch would have been what I seem not to understand is how to use the stamped codes what I am trying to say those letters that are in the plastic and how the circuit is formed got in over my head
    It sure sounds easy and did think there is more to it like we're wires will go to keep it like it still had the original stuff just adding the toggles to the harness so it functions the very same way just flipping switches could you help me please
    The lawn tractor is an arians it has a Briggs and Stratton
    Thank you in advance

    Hey Norman! What do you think of the Cub Cadet wide frames compared to other garden tractors? Are they heavy duty or not? How would they stack up against other brands?

      The Cub Cadet Wide Frames are very heavy duty. I used one to build a backhoe and front end loader (also on this channel). The rear end on the wide frames are probably the toughest there was. These stack up to all the other vintage garden tractors equally.

      @@Isavetractors Yeah I saw that vid and it seems like a great tractor! Just With the old IH Cub Cadets the differential is weak ( at least that is what I heard from tractorpullers ) and the frame is very thin compared to the John Deere 318.
