I'm in my last year of film school and I see other students in my course not attending class and it's such a shame because opportunities are literally put in front of our faces and they're missing out. I attended one class and I showed some of my colour grading work, this led to me working with a person who wanted colour grading, I also mentioned to that person that I have camera skills and my own camera so he let me work on one of his documentaries. This has also led me to being 1st AC for a short film they directed. The DP of the short film liked my focus pulling that he wants me to be 1st AC on another short. All because one person liked my colour grading in that class. I am glad I showed off my work and I am glad I met that person who gave me a chance.
I finished high school in 2019 and did nothing, wasn't able to enter college and then there was the pandemic and everything, so I already lost a few years of my life. But I thought a lot about how I should plan the next years, and film school really seems like the safest path possible. It's four years of experiences and making contacts. Trying another way is kind of an insane move when you're poor and live in my country lol.
