@@valentiapauwelsi’m reading in that order too! i finished heir of fire a while ago and wanted to read the novellas before i started queen of shadows and im glad i did. i’m almost done with the assassin and the desert and it’s definitely made manon’s story and background make a lot more sense.
@@bridget.esther Im so happy that you're enjoying this reading order like I did! I just finished the series and I already want to start reading it over again haha! ❤️
For short fantasies I’d recommend A Curse So Dark and Lonely (it’s a trilogy) by Brigid Kemmerer, Passenger by Alexandra Bracken (a duology), and This Savage Song by VE Schwab (a duology)!
An enchantment of ravens for example is a standalone fantasy book and its with fairies, gives the cruel prince and general autumnal vibes. Protagonist is a painter I believe. I personally really enjoyed it 😊
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor is 2 books. They look huge but the writing is really simple and atmospheric. A truly beautiful duet that I highly recommend
there are a lot of fantasy duologies and trilogies that are normally pretty short, idk abt recs since idk your taste in books but also bc i read pretty chunky fantasy books
Defy the Night (it’s second book is Defend the Dawn) is an incredible book. Fantasy with romance, just up your alley. I haven’t read the second book yet but the first was SO good!!
For stand-alone fantasy books I recommend the night circus (it kinda has caraval vibes), house of salt and sorrows and hotel magnifique (again, caraval vibes)
The six of crows duology is so good. found family, heists, the whole nine yards. People say you have to read the shadow and bone triology before you go into six of crows. But I've read both series and although I do love the shadow and bone books, you can read six of crows without shadow and bone.
You should read A Magic Steeped in Poison by Judy Lin! It is the first book of a YA fantasy duology - both books are rather short in terms of the fantasy genre and it just has such good vibes + a unique magic system!
First of all happy birthday, and I also have a great fancy book recommendation. I think you may enjoy. I’m actually reading the first book of that series keeper of the lost cities. I think you will honestly enjoy that. The first book is amazing.I am half way done with that book.
Holly Black has a few stand-alone fantasy books if i'm not mistaken! Darkest part of the forest and coldest girl in cold town. Great video girl, I'm also venturing into my fantasy era!❤🎉
If you want to read a fantasy book i can recommend "She who became the sun". It is a really interesting story about a girl who wants to fulfill her brothers fate/destiny. I cant really explain it and will not say more. ( And i think that there are only one book right now, but the second will be released this year). Another Duology i really liked was "The six crimson cranes". It mostly some kind of an Asian fairy tale retelling. Which is a beautiful written romantic story with sibling bonds, adventure and Dragons.
A touch of darkness is a stand alone book but there are 4 more books in the series but it can be read as a stand alone. Its such a good fantasy romance book
Read the assassins blade first!!!!!! I red it as the third book and the other two books spoiled to much of assassins blade. The plot didnt really hit me because of. Wish I could go back in time and reverse my reading order
happy birthday Ali. also a short fantasy series is dance of thieves. don't let the length of the books intimidate you, once you get into it you will be flying through them.
some of my favourite fantasy standalones are addie larue, to kill a kingdom and the darkest part of the forest (takes place in the same world as the folk of the air series), and some good duologies are six of crows ofc, mosters of verity, villians, all the stars and teeth and fable! happy birthday ali
Happy birthday Ali I'm am so proud of you I've been a supporter for a year now and you always seem to make my day better thx for always being so kind and beautiful I hope you had a very very good day ilysm ali❤❤❤🥳🥳🥳
Happy Birthday!!! I hope you had a great week. As someone currently reading the Throne of Glass series, I wish I had read the Assassin's Blade first. I just finished it, reading it fourth as recommended, and while I did enjoy it I just wanted to get back to the main story the whole time. It put my in a bit of a slump as a result, but if I had read it first I think I would have read it much quicker. However, the argument of it not explaining the world as much is very valid. Since it's a series of novella's walking you through the stories before the first book, it doesn't fully dive into the world. I think that if you know that going into it and just have fun it would be a good start. Also, the first book ends up spoiling quite a lot of what's in the prequal, so personally it wasn't quite as emotional for me as a result. Of course everyone has preferences, but that's just a bit of advice

Happy Birthday Ali!!!! Love you🎂💕!! For short fantasy series I'd really recommend A Song of Wraiths and Ruin, Skin of the Sea, A Magic Steeped in Poison, Lightlark, This Woven Kingdom, The Invisible Life of Addie Larue, The Never Tilting World (has two romances in it), the "A Twisted Tale" series where each book is a disney princess retelling if one major detail was different, and House of Salt and Sorrows!!
The Fable series!! Technically, Fable and Namesake (#1 & #2) can be read alone and together, but there's 4 books total. All under 400 pages, a little bit of romance in each one, and just such a great world and story! In my opinion, the best order to read that series is Fable (#1), Namesake (#2), Saint (#0.5), and then The Last Legacy (#3). Saint has a few spoilers in my opinion, if you retain information well. But Fable and Namesake alone are a 5 star series in my opinion! Fable starts straight into action, and ends on a bigger cliff hanger. So, I recommend having Namesake readily available, because you jump straight back into the story like it's in the same book. Those books were a one day read for me, and I've been in love with them ever since! Also, Happy Birthday!! 🎉
Hey! i cannot stress this enough but you must read assasians blade first! It is a collection of I think 5 novellas that's why its 400 pages lol. And they all take place before the rest of the series! that's why its the prequal. The reason to read it first is because the things that happen in the book will be spoiled by some encounters in the rest of the books and so the events wont hit as hard or be as emotional as it would be if you read it first! It also gives sooooo much insight into the main character that you absolutely need. The reason a lot of people don't like the first book as much is that they feel like there is more telling then showing how amazing the mc is at her job and her cool abilities and talents because you get all of that in her backstory assaisans blade! Sorry this was so long but I really belive this is the right way to do it! Happy Birthday and Happy Reading! ♥♥🥰🥰🥳🥳
Happy birthday Ali!!!!!! ❤ Hope you had an amazing birthday!!!! Also the best short fantasy series that I can think of is ‘the dance of thieves’ (which I know you already have and I think that you’ll love them!😊)
Happy birthday Ali!!! A stand-alone rec can be Coraline by Neil Gaiman, it’s a dark fantasy horror children’s novel, but it doesn’t have romance. It has less than 200 pages, so it’s a short book and you can fly through it. I don’t know if you’ve watched the movie, but it’s very good although it’s creepy and it’s called Coraline too. I read the book because Coraline it’s one of my favorite movies. I read it in 3 days. You can read it for your next Book vs movie comparison video (if you’re going to do another one of course).
Happy birthday!! 🎉💛 I definitely recommend the Bridge Kingdom duology. There’s a 3rd book out, but it’s about different couple. Also the Dance of Thieves duology is amazing!
Children of Blood and Bone is a Romance Fantasy (Enemies to lovers) and it is a two book series but you don’t need to read the second one as it’s basically a different story❤️
I really love ‘to kill a kingdom’. It’s a short and sweet standalone fantasy book with a nice romance subplot and I really like the book. So if you want a fantasy standalone I highly recommend that ❤️
Ahh yes! For a standlone- Sky in the Deep (enemies to lovers AND vikings) and for a duology- Dance of Thieves! Both are sooo good! (Btw, Hooked is not a fantasy. Seems like it is one, but it is actually just a standalone, modern day, dark romance.)
Happy Birthday Ali! I read the first 3 books of the Throne of Glass series and then read the Assassin's Blade. I think this way you can understand a bit more about what's going on in the novellas and how they link in to the main series :) Altho ik that there's a bit of debate about when u should read the novellas haha :) x
I can’t believe your birthday is on May 9. My birthday is on May 9. You’re one of my favorite booktubers and I cannot believe we have the same birthday. 😮🙃
I just read Fourth wing. It’s a new fantasy that has a romance plot but the author definitely reminds me of Sarah J Maas. It’s super action packed too.
Hi Ali, first off happy birthday, secondly. Any book by Margaret Rogerson as they are all stand alones, Sorcery of Thrones and An Enchantment of Ravens. both are fantasy with romance and amazing female characters. Both are in my 6 star reads and constantly think about them. I hope you find this helpful 💮🌸🌷
Happy birthday Ali!!🥳 I absolutely love your videos!💕 One of my favorite fantasy stand alones is Heartless by Marissa Meyer! It is about the Queen of Hearts and it has a subplot of romance! The love interest is also one of my favorites of all time! Hope you will give it a try!💜
A curse so dark and lonely by Brigid Kemmerer is a 3 book series. It’s a beauty and the beast inspired book with lot’s of romance and adventure. I loved it!
Happy birthday Ali!! 🤍🫶🏽 i hope you had a wonderful day! you deserve the world and so much more. So glad you get to one of your favorite things for your birthday!!! 🥳 you truly are wonderful.
Happy Birthday! I’m currently reading assassin’s blade. On a friend’s recommendation, I’m reading it first (I looked online and half say to read first, half say to read midway through the TOG series 🙈😂). I obviously can’t compare to reading it later on but, so far, it feels like the right thing to read it first as the events pre-date TOG and you get to know her character. I’m very excited to get into the full series now as a big ACOTAR fan 😆
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! 🎉 The Assassin's Blade is a book that contains 5 novellas on our main character! You get an amazing background vieuw of her. I would recommend watching Aviva's Library's video on the reading order of the whole ToG series. I read her recommend order and loved it! This means assasins blade is in between Heir of Fire and Queen of Shadows! ❤
happy birthday!!!! i hope you enjoy the caraval trilogy, peoples opinions on it are very divided but its my favorite series of all time. enjoy and have a great birthday !!!
Happy birthday! A short fantasy series that I loved was Dance of Thieves which is a duology. I also liked Sorcery of Thorns (standalone) and all the books by Rebecca Ross (standalone).
The Assassin’s Blade is a collection of 4-5 novellas!! That’s why it’s 400 pages because they combined all the novellas into one book❤
Do you read the whole thing first? 😅
@@evacampbell-bv1jv I read it after Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight and I definitely recommend doing that reading order!!
@@evacampbell-bv1jv Between Heir of Fire and Queen of Shadows is the best place! Since Heir of Fire kind of ends on a "stop".

I loved the Elfhame novella. Nice addition to the stories.
Defy the Night (it’s second book is Defend the Dawn) is an incredible book. Fantasy with romance, just up your alley. I haven’t read the second book yet but the first was SO good!!
Hooked was my first dark romance and it was a top read. I love that the villains get there moment to shine ❤

The six of crows duology is so good. found family, heists, the whole nine yards. People say you have to read the shadow and bone triology before you go into six of crows. But I've read both series and although I do love the shadow and bone books, you can read six of crows without shadow and bone.
8:51 a really good standalone romantasy is An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson!
I am so excited you got Caraval!!!!!! It’s my favorite book series!!! Also if you get bored I would suggest an Audiobook version.
The Assassins Blade is like 5 novellas in one that’s why it says novella. Each novella is separated by a title page!
