    Thanks for this. I see a lot of things that have hurt bands I have had and caused things to fall apart before it even gets rolling

    I've worked with a band who fought constantly. If any two band members were in the room together, they were fine. If a third one came in, though, it was nonstop arguing bordering on physical violence. I was supposed to be helping them record their debut EP. We got guitars for one song recorded and, because they couldn't stop fighting, that was it. The band broke up, and their bass player (who was using my rig at the time) started a project with me. All in all, I think it ended pretty well.

    Great point about fostering chemistry outside the band. In a band I recently left I got on great with the brass section (who got me into the band), but no relationship with the others. Whereas it’s the craic and friendships in a big band I’ve been in for 16 years that has kept me there

    I've been through all of these including the first. I think one thing of which to be aware is the effect that alcohol can have on personalities. Substance whatever. If it's going to be prevalent people are not going to have good communication or social skills.
