Letra do fado " Rainha Santa Isabel" / Fado "Queen Saint Elizabeth" lyrics.
No reino de Portugal, há muito ano
Dom Diniz, cristão de fé, o lavrador
Herdou o trono do povo lusitano
E herdou de Deus, a graça dum amor
Ficarás p'lo tempo fora
Em tovas de amor fiel
Isabel, santa senhora
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.😍
Thanks for watching!
Padroeira da minha cidade ❤
Coimbra ? The University?
She is the patron saint of the city. Queen Isabel and king Dinis liked Coimbra very much and lived there quite often. Coimbra was considered the capital of Portugal at the time although Lisbon was gaining importance. Coimbra was the capital during the civil war that opposed king Sancho II( deposed by a papal bull ) to his brother , the future Afonso III. However the mayor of Coimbra who was loyal to Sancho II defended the city in such a way that Coimbra was never defeated by Afonso´s army. The mayor of Coimbra only handed the the keys of Coimbra to Afonso III after Sancho´s death in exile in Toledo.Meanwhile , the new king had to find another capital.Afonso chose Lisbon. The choice of Lisbon as the new capital was disputed because the nobility who had founded the kingdom of Portugal came from the north and weren´t very happy with the king´s choice.
@@Belinda8881 Thank you for the explanation. Very interesting. The king was deposed by a papal bull ? Never heard of such a fact.
@@darkmoonprincess9814 Sancho II was a great hero of the Reconquest. He conquered all the lands south of Lisbon for the portuguese crown, except the Algarve that was conquered later by his brother, Afonso. His father, Afonso II died excommunicated. (Portugal always had problems with the papacy during the first dinasty , there were nineteen excommunications in all, concerning Sancho I, Afonso II and later Afonso III). Portugal, under Sancho II continued embroiled in a difficult diplomatic conflict with the Catholic Church, concerning the fact that he wanted to reduce the Church's power within the country.
Sancho II and his brothers and sister, the future Afonso III, infanta Leonor, future Queen of Denmark and infante Fernando lost their parents when they were rather young. Sancho was thirteen when he became king . His mother ´s sister ,Branca of Castile, queen of France, married to king Louis VIII, took young Afonso under her wing and married him to Countess Matilde of Bologne. She knew of the problems in Portugal and began conspiring with the pope against her other nephew Sancho II.When the pope received complaints by the portuguese bishops, about the problems in Portugal, the pope decided to depose Sancho II issuing a bull in which he deposed him. The pope and the queen of France asked Afonso to go to Portugal to pacify the kingdom.A violent civil war followed.Sancho II was aided by his cousin, the future Afonso X , the Wise, but in the end he left Portugal and lived in exile in Toledo. Sancho II died two years later and Afonso became king Afonso III.
Lots of documents disappeared during this period ,especially documents concerning Sancho II´s reign, so it´s very difficult for the historians to write an accurate account of the facts.
@@Belinda8881 I see.
