  • Fifty-five years ago today, Malcolm X was assassinated. The civil rights leader was shot to death on February 21, 1965, at the Audubon Ballroom in New York City. He was only 39 years old. Details of his assassination remain disputed to this day. Earlier this month, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance said he was considering reopening the investigation, just days after a new documentary series about the assassination was released on Netflix called “Who Killed Malcolm X?” It makes the case that two of the three men who were convicted for Malcolm X’s murder are actually innocent and that his uncaught killers were four members of a Nation of Islam mosque in Newark, New Jersey. We are joined by Ilyasah Shabazz, one of six daughters of Malcolm X, who was just 2 years old when her father was assassinated in front of her, her siblings and her mother. We also speak with award-winning author Abdur-Rahman Muhammad, independent scholar, historian, journalist, writer and activist, who is widely regarded as one of the most respected authorities on the life and legacy of Malcolm X and is featured in the new documentary series, and Shayla Harris, a producer for the series and an award-winning filmmaker and journalist.

MLK seems to be canonized and Malcolm seems to be a footnote sometimes.

@Walter Wicca - Real black leaders like Malcolm X / others the USA/European country governments have had assassinated never merely alone needed nor only wanted just supporters. They absolutely needed truly brave and diligently committed supporters to fast and fearlessly become active leaders able to skillfully command brigades of warrior soldiers/not to just merely alone not be supporters. Malcolm needed hundreds of thousands of AA supporters to become fearless, smart, skilled,/formidable/reliable leaders! Where were Malcolm X's supporters when his home was bombed? Where were they when his life was being threatened? Where were his loving/protective supporters that February 21st evening at the Audubon Ballroom? Where were all the black race public "ride or die" black, brave, fearless, supportive, active defensive,/protective hordes of leaders to surround ensuring the safety of not only Malcolm X but also Marcus Garvey; the young Fred Hampton/ the other original Black Panthers; Khalid Muhammad; MLK Jr.; Medgar Evans; Maurice Bishop; Patrice Lumumba; Steven Sankofa, Nelson Mandela, Steve Biko; Steve Cokely; Walter Rodney; and hundreds of others? Ms.Shabazz was 2 years of age witnessed the assassination of her father the late Honorable Malcolm X , that scene if it was me at 2 years old would come and go throughout my mind from time to time like a few unforgetful experience that I'll take with me.I have to say Ms.Shabazz at least 56 years of age doesn't look a day over 30 .I recall that Sunday when Malcolm X was killed a news bulletin had me waiting for the news to come on . I noticed the toning down in his speakes from his earlier years phase "By Any Means Necessary" the journey to Macca had done something to him. The 60s were the decade of assassinations.

I teach my kids about Malcolm. I loved reading about him as a kid by my older uncles. I'm Mexican and family is half black. Because of malcolm, it led me to sunni Islam. I became Muslim at 16 and one day I won tickets on the radio to a concert because I also loved hip hop. I went to pick up the tickets and was on the elevator with a lady who saw my folder with Arabic on it's cover. She asked me about it, I said I am Muslim. She exclaimed really? !! There's Mexican Muslims in San antonio, Texas? I affirmed and smiled. Later found out it was qubillah shabazz. Malcolms daughter. She worked at the radio station. Alhamdulillah what are the odds?

We will continue to spread the word of Malcom X, his greatness lives on forever

The "shotgun man" didn't kill Malcolm, his pellets went through the wooden rostrum and would not have killed anyone, it was the pistol shots, the 45 caliber bullets they pulled out of him, just like the ones in Hayer's pocket, that killed Malcolm

When he came back he realized it wasn't only a black/white issue it was a state that gained from people being segregated into us and them. Because a lot of African Americans till this day don't know who he is or think he was a violent man just because he was Muslim and they are not. That's another way of segregation.

I have been fortunate enough to write and research the life and times of Malcolm X for twenty five years. For me he was bold, honest, fearless and respectful. Brother Malcolm wasn’t about hate, he wasn’t violent, he wasn’t dishonest and he never a traitor. Brother Malcolm was anti racist, anti injustice, anti inequality and anti oppression. Malcolm was for love, truth, justice and equality.

People please research and read alternative sources to be well informed. Malcolm's grandson began to speak widely to the public about this accident with his grandmother. He said, he was a kid trying to get attention. He thought to do something bad so he would be sent back to his mother. He did not understand why he was not with his mother. He did not know his mom had been set up, arrested and serving time. He loved his grandmother. He never imagined what could really happen. He regretted it immensely and it haunted him. It was never his intent to cause his grandmother, Mrs. Betty Shabazz great harm, NEVER. He was a kid and made a dumb decision. Near the end of his young life he was walking in Malcom's footsteps finding his purpose, speaking to young folks about his life and injustice. He like his grandfather was constantly harassed set up and murdered. He was the only male heir of Malcolm's.

Thank you Brother Abdur-Rahman Muhammad for taking this to where it needs to be. You took upon yourself to shoulder what Brother Malcolm X's family has carried for years on their own and what many of us also carry in our hearts and minds for someone we dearly loved, knowing that the truth had yet to be told.
Thank you, we are indebted to you, God asked, 'Who will go?" Brother Muhammad answered the call, "Send me!" He also has responded to the Spirit of Brother Malcolm, "I'm for truth, no matter who tells it. I'm for justice, no matter who it is for or against. I'm a human being first and foremost, and as such I'm for whoever and whatever benefits humanity as a whole." - Malcolm X. May God bless the continued journey toward justice, surely TRUTH WILL PREVAIL!! Amen. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
