JayDee’s the only computer programmer to ever change the way traditional musicians played. Pino said these sessions where he had to emulate dilla’s basslines was the most liberating moment of his career
Oh thats whats going on! 😮 Thanks man, makes sense Couldnt make out why the bass sounded like that. Pino Paladino emulating J Dilla? ON D’angelos set. History in the makin. Hot damn ❤
If anyone really wants to understand Voodoo, listen to Sly and The Family Stone's Small Talk album. Yes, the music is different since Voodoo obviously comes from HipHop and Sly's roots are blues and gospel but, the approach to building the space this album is set in was certainly built on Sly's Small Talk. It's a classic too
Be Blessed for teaching this. Many under estimate Sly stone influence on Voodoo Album. The dont even know that the vocal gimmick (shadrak meshak Abednego )D sang live on the bridge was from sly "Loose booty"
@@TheGroovezone yes! It's so easy for folks to latch D to Marvin because they're both from the DMV but, next to Prince D PRAISES Sly. After falling in love with Small Talk myself (especially because of the drummer on that album, I know everyone loves Andy Newmark but he's too busy for funk imo) you really see that it's the frame for Voodoo. The chatting background chatting (which wasn't supposed to make ST but due to the time in Sly's life...they had to literally take the album from him and put it out, no time for precision) and all is there. It was pretty much what D was looking for after the textbook approach to finishing Brown Sugar and was the fine line between sounding like the demos and a finished record.
Sly is one of the all time greats. Need to preach about him more. His name should be me ruined before Stevie Wonder, with all respect to Stevie. But give credit to Sly!

Pino is one of the coldest bassists of all time.
Big facts!

wow, thats saying ALOT
Hardly the only- @MF Doom, Nujabes
@@MacDaddyBlack546 if by MF you mean mad lib he’s definitely a son of dilla.
Nujabes maybe , but he’s more like the cousin who stole jaydee’s laptop.
Dilla's influence of Questlove's drumming in this time is crazy.
Oh man. To be a fly on the walls of electric lady in those days
That snare/clap making me feel some type of way
I concur!
The nuance of space is divine.
Pino's groove is untouchable here.
pino AND quest's groove
I guess they’re both colloquially playing Dilla’s groove

Yessir.
There's A Riot, Small Talk & Fresh are the building blocks for Voodoo. Not to mention those albums by Sly are certified funk classix!🤘🏾⭐

Pino is the master of going hard while never showing off. Legend.
Man, I am obsessed with that track! 🔥
QuestLove is your guy…!!!
I remember sampling one of the fat claps in the beginning of this track nearly 20 years ago.
High, tight drum kit. Questlove
this is crazy valuable, thanks for the upload!
Pino changing the game playing this lick
the drums have drum kicks all over ther place and the guy found the perfect way groove with a few notes
Absolute savage Pino🔥
I have no idea how you got this but omg keep it up
I used a program called x-minus.pro to isolate both the bass guitar and drum parts and then I put them together in Garage Band. Hope that explains it!
Great job!!!!!!!!
かっこいい〜
Just ridiculous. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
in 2022 this shit still bumping
Questlove and Pino!
That pic is too dope
This shit so raw!
Questlove is really one of the greats.
I'm trying to push on through and maybe find something new cause I'm feeling real blue and you know that's true

With a name like "Chicken Grease",
how can you go wrong?
Dilla Dawg vibes
Does anyone know what Bass he is playing on this tune?
Probably a p bass.
‘63 P Bass in 3-Tone Sunburst (not the red one). Tuned down a whole step.
Laying down some gunky funk with this, sounds like a serrated piece of fudge.
Ahh, Newports.
Lol I thought that was Kwahi Leonard 😂
how to play between straight and swung. .
do these videos get copywrite claims?
But damn i always seem to fail
I wanna reach heaven cause I'm living in hell

I'm chilling like a villain I'm just trying to make a killing so what's up with you man there isn't really much to do
Pocket is way too deep.
Fucks sake. Back the drawing board. Thanks Pino.
I thought the key guy was Kendrick
Like the vibe but the audio is wonky
I barely hear the bass and the treble is so high the snare drowns out everything else
#1 you must not be familiar with the original record. It’s a vibe.
#2 just be happy for what we’ve got here. This is amazing!
Bruh please
Basic
Not perfect
Yeah well quantatized midi is "perfect," and boring as fuck.
