It gave me chills when #24 skated over to his team on the bench to celebrate. Ultimate team sport.

This was both programs at their peak. Of course, Minnesota won the title again in 2003 by routing UNH, but they've only been to three Frozen Fours over the last 19 years. Maine reached the title game again in 2004 behind a record-breaking season from goalie Jimmy Howard, but the rest of the team wasn't quite as good, and they were blanked by Denver in the final. They've only been to two Frozen Four since then. College hockey has changed a lot since the early 2000s.

Too much talent leaving MN. Lucia set the program back after they won in 02'-03'. A lot of guys didn't want to play for him, and scouts didn't want players playing for him either. Hoping Motzko can eventually turn this around. We have talent, we always do, but it doesn't translate into championships anymore. They all leave for the NHL early.

Actually, the Gophers have (Since their last Championship) Over the span of 19 years:
Been to the National Tournament - 13 times
Lost in First Round - 3 times
Lost in Quarter Finals - 3 times
Lost in Frozen Four - 5 times
Lost in Championship - 2 times
Not nearly as good as they should be in my opinion, but they are consistently the top team in the country year in and year out

I was blessed to be there half my life ago and watch my beloved Gophers capture the title. I remember it being such a good game. But these highlights just showed me how it was even better than I remember.

Ran around my house screaming twice - once at the last minute of regulation tying goal and then again with the game winner. Couldn’t believe it as a Minnesota fan after so many years of never making it, to come out on top. Still get goosebumps!

Still the best sporting event I have been to thanks to my Dad (RIP). 5th row about the faceoff dot opposite benches $250 a pop. To see the tying and winning goal right in front of you is priceless. Should of had another one this year. Shout out to Motzko, Championship or bust. Starting to think you just can't win the big one. 1 and out as #1 overall twice with The Cloud. No more baby steps. Straight from The Field SS4LIFE!

Not really. Not what it is today at least. The game has changed a lot. Stickwork was part of the game up until '08 or so when they finally started clamping down on it in the NHL and then it trickled down to college and juniors. It had to be blatant to get called back then, I know, I played in that era. You had to have extra padding on your wrists because of all the hacking.

It took a non-Minnesotans to help the Gophers win it… and the stupid provincial thinking by Minnesotans have held them back for 20 years. This year, Gophers with Knies and Cooley being key to team, will be enough to push them across the line like Vanek and Potulny
