I think Greg and Terry's marriage falling apart could’ve worked if it was more about the unhealthy levels of perfectionism some couples especially middle-class gay couples place upon themselves. The episode with Terry's father shouldve tried to mirror Stans relationship with his own to a point, seeing how Terry has the antithesis of a relationship that Stan wanted but its built on lies.
17:16 The movie Erin Brockovich is a biopic from the early 2000's based on the environmental activist by the same name starring Julia Roberts as the titular character. Erin was a beauty queen early in her life and because of her appearance and outfits when re-entering the workforce (featuring lots of cleavage) people often assumed she was not especially smart, clever, caring, or reliable. She was heavily involved with helping the residents of Hinkley California sue Pacific Gas & Electric for knowingly contaminating their drinking water with toxic chemicals that led to all different kinds of cancer and degenerative diseases. So that's why Greg was saying show your breasts for clean drinking water, he thinks that the surrogate will somehow influence the developing fetus to be slutty by watching their favorite movie while pregnant.
I think maybe that was about him at the time of the episodes. Things really went insane in late 2010s. Like SP Matt & Trey talked about how it had gotten hard to satirize real life from things being so unhinged/awful that it was just too hard to beat. So when characters did something horrid it was just kinda mirroring real world actions & ruins the satire of it.
Greg and Terry were a happy loving couple with successful careers, and loved their daughter unconditionally. So naturally the writers hated them and did everything they could to ruin them.
They didn't ruin them intentionally. The actor didn't want to do the voice anymore. Plus he left around the time voice actors where getting attacked for not being the minorities or gay characters they were in real life. So many voice actors just stop doing characters. What are you supposed to do.
@@the1magageneral323 that's what acting and voice acting us about. But the time we live in now, American shows can't be voiced by anyone besides what they are. That's why American shows are so bad right now. It seems it is usually just the same people that write and create the show instead of a voice actor or singer. And it just doesn't sound right a lot of the time. Then the are those actors that dont change anything in their voice and just play the same voice for every character in all there shows. That's not right either. But people get used to it.
The voice actor just didn't want to do the voice anymore. Then again around the same time everyone was up in arms about voice actors having to be their characters. So if they are not gay or a minority they can't voice these characters.
@@the1magageneral323oh please, it’s not “wokeness”. A simple google search shows that Mike Barker was one of the producers and was also the voice of Terry and left after creative differences and concerns for the show. Easy as that. You couldn’t even define woke.
@@Warlock_Sack Yeah woke has completely lost all meaning but it is fucking stupid how voice roles are being limited that way. It’s called "acting", especially with VO since all that’s important is the voice. Doesn’t fucking matter what you are or what you look like.

One because at least they mention it on the other hand they kinda killed them off without killing them.
As a gay man, I always liked Greg and terry. It felt like pretty consistent representation in a favorite genre of mine. The caricature of gay stereotypes felt based in reality but ratcheted up for a comedic series. Wish they did more with them
it SUCKS That Greg and Terry are no longer together in the TBS Era of American Dad they are a Kind gay couple and one of the best thing in the early seasons but they we're a nice gay couple and a lot nicer then Stan and Francine couple have been
Both my parents were gay, my dad was also a white supremacist and I turned out waaaaaay better than I should have. You should have seen his face when he found out I was a rapper. It broke the man hahaha
Greg and Terry were a great couple. It's ashame what Happened with them. Although they make a lot of jokes about us. Seth does show support for the LGBTQ+ community Edit: I just realised Seth uses the same voice for Greg as he does for Ida. I guess that sorta makes sense
Honestly,I feel like Greg and Terry's relationship falling apart could've been an interesting arc for the two characters. They needed more spotlight for it to work though. It feels like wasted potential that could've been interesting
Francine gave birth to her but it's very likely that she signed away parenting rights and allowed the Corbin-Bates family to adopt Libby and be her only legal parents. That's what usually happens with surrogates. Edit: Additionally iirc Greg and Terry had picked an egg donor already and were only looking for a surrogate, so Francine isn't even the biological mother.
Hey Kitty! I’ve been watching you for a while and I love your content and how you bring up different perspectives and points on topics I’d never thought before from shows I love and watch relentlessly! It made me so happy to see a Squidbillies reference in this video and I’d love to see you make an analysis on an episode from it. I think it’s both extremely dumb but also thought-provoking in ways. It gives a look into the Southern/Appalachian lifestlye of the lower class in a way that’s both (offensively) hilarious and somewhat accurate to the views and attitudes of the kinds of characters they portray. I really think it’s worth a check even if it’s not made into a series! Thanks a lot if you read this! :)

Well I wonder what would’ve happened if Stan did just take liberty to Nebraska and not change his mind and still the whole terry dumping Greg episode was fine with me
17:35 I'm neither a genetic female or a medical professional, but I'd guess that just because a pregnancy is "easy", it doesn't mean the subsequent birth will be.

I don't think it was out of character how they ruined the characters in your mind. Terry grew up with a father that hated gays. That high maintenance made Terry want a life opposite of his dad. But Greg's high expectations is just as high maintenance as his father. And like many people when they realize they are living the same way like you did in your youth only a different way. You want to run away. So he did. And we never seen him again.
It would be wrong regardless of who outed Terry...because no one should out someone against their will. That's incredibly dangerous, harmful, and boundary-crossing. Whether it's the spouse, Francine, or literally anyone...Stan was absolutely in the wrong for outing Terry. I know it's a cartoon, but that mindset of "would it have been as bad if Greg or Francine had said it" has real-world connotations and that behavior in the real world can literally put people in danger.
@@georgeprchal3924100% agree, its not right to out someone, but its also not right to build a giant lie and throw it onto those around you just to save your own skin. Also Stan being blackout drunk doesn't justify it, it just makes the entire situation alot more messy. Also that's horrendously cruel to your spouse as well, lying about them and kicking them out of the house instead of standing by them isn't part of a good relationship at all, regardless of how human we all are.
@@shadesteel9247 I totally agree with both of you. No one made the right choices (which makes for compelling TV, even with animated people). Except Bullock. He always makes the right choices.
Totally agree. My cousin got outed before he was ready and unfortunately my uncle and aunt are those sort of Christian parents that tried gay conversion therapy on him and were apparentlyabusive to him for having a boyfriend. He ran away from home when he turned 18 and asked my dad for a loan to leave the country to get away from his parents. To this day he doesn't speak to them and only contacts my dad (his uncle) to let us know how he is, but he has told us never to tell his parents where he is and to keep when he visits us a secret.
29:48 I really don’t think anyone has the right to out someone without permission. That can literally be dangerous and moreover deeply damaging to their relationships. I can see them saying “ok fine we won’t mention it but we can’t help you anymore and we really think you should just come out,” but that’s it. I’ve heard too many horror stories at this point.

Great essay. I love Langley's News Team Greg and Terry with my favorite episodes being the as mentioned Surro-Gate and Home Wrecker where they proved a Gay so-called civil partnership (but fuck it I'll say Marriage as they won the cert in that bet) can be stronger than a straight marriage. But I agree Terry trying to kill Michael ruined the relationship and it's a shame we might never get another Greg Terry story as I feel Greg is lost without him. Heck a guest voice appearance by Barker to give closure would be nicer than this piss poor wrap up
in some ways I'd still favor American Dad way more then Family Gut because unlike Family Guy that relays on one two much Cut-Away Gags and The Griffins are a Straight up Terrible Family at least the Smiths are a kind and understanding Family to each other and there characters on American Dad are way more better written
honestly about the lincoln thing, he probably wasnt gay he was probably just comfortable in his masculinity and not such a little bitch that expressing love for his male friends and being physically close to other men didnt make him feel like or seem like less of a man. the guy is the first recorded human to chokeslam someone in a fight, he doesnt NEED anyone else’s approval hes the OG Undertaker and youll put some respect on that fucking name whether you can handle him or not. and yeah its not gay to be affectionate towards your male friends, you arent fucking them, give your bro a hug from time to time if he isnt like traumatized or something and is cool with you hugging him because consent is still important, but yeah, fuck whatever bullshit reason you might have to think thats “gay” or “feminine” or any excuse youre gonna give. be open with the fact that you live your friends. youre gonna talk to each of them for the very last time one day, and after that moment you wont get another chance to say another thing, and YOU don’t usually get to know when that moment is going to be

Depends on the woman. Some women can go by the pregnancy easily, while others can suffer from symptoms that affect them more like morning sickness, extreme cravings, pelvic cramps, etc. Same can said about delivery too. Some women have a relatively easy delivery, while others can go through days of suffering while trying to deliver
The nonchalant way Roger fingers Stan is bad, but lets not forget when Roger was mughing Jeff he equally nonchalantly said, "I'm gonna rape him this time." as though it were the most natural though to him.

It's incredibly nitpicky, but what always bothered me about the baby episode was that the baby should be dead several times over. She's a freaking newborn! Plus, without the mother or baby formula, she is slowly starving while Stan is driving across the country. My God...

That episode was pretty funny though, especially the ending where Roger haunts the hell out of Terry.
@@the1magageneral323 who’s they?
“Too extreme even by republic standards”?
Absolutely not. The parody has become the actual accepted reality.
I think maybe that was about him at the time of the episodes. Things really went insane in late 2010s. Like SP Matt & Trey talked about how it had gotten hard to satirize real life from things being so unhinged/awful that it was just too hard to beat. So when characters did something horrid it was just kinda mirroring real world actions & ruins the satire of it.
just realized francene was a real estate agent twice in the show..... something they forgot the second she got that job with Rodger competing
Again they were not funny.
@@JoseLopez-gi9sf Tell the woke left to shut it. A lot of characters are voiced from actors who don't look like them.
@@JoseLopez-gi9sf Which is racist and hypocritical coming from these woke activists who are just doing this to demonize white people.
I kind of had a feeling Terry was written out of the show ever since they moved to TBS and one of the co-creators had to move on with better things
The voice actor just didn't want to do the voice anymore. Then again around the same time everyone was up in arms about voice actors having to be their characters. So if they are not gay or a minority they can't voice these characters.
@@JoseLopez-gi9sf Which is woke insanity.
@@the1magageneral323oh please, it’s not “wokeness”. A simple google search shows that Mike Barker was one of the producers and was also the voice of Terry and left after creative differences and concerns for the show. Easy as that. You couldn’t even define woke.
@@Warlock_Sack can't trust Google because of censorship. I know what wokeness is, listen to other youtubers explain it.

And don't make a big thing about it. It is like a side comment. Same thing with the Muslim neighbors. You know the lady that had a thing for Francine. It was an off handed comment in a newer season that theu are gone. I found that funny and yet not at the same time. I'm binging your videos ATM, I love finding people who are into American dad as much as I am. You and Dan the man are the best lol
As a gay man, I always liked Greg and terry. It felt like pretty consistent representation in a favorite genre of mine. The caricature of gay stereotypes felt based in reality but ratcheted up for a comedic series. Wish they did more with them
To this day, my absolute favorite line from Stan Smith is "It's not a choice to be gay. I tried, and it didn't work!"
it would have been cool if Greg & Terry got Brian's cousin Jasper as their pet
it SUCKS That Greg and Terry are no longer together in the TBS Era of American Dad they are a Kind gay couple and one of the best thing in the early seasons but they we're a nice gay couple and a lot nicer then Stan and Francine couple have been
Both my parents were gay, my dad was also a white supremacist and I turned out waaaaaay better than I should have. You should have seen his face when he found out I was a rapper. It broke the man hahaha
That's a wild combination I'm so sorry.

Greg and Terry were a great couple. It's ashame what Happened with them. Although they make a lot of jokes about us. Seth does show support for the LGBTQ+ community
Edit: I just realised Seth uses the same voice for Greg as he does for Ida. I guess that sorta makes sense
Honestly,I feel like Greg and Terry's relationship falling apart could've been an interesting arc for the two characters. They needed more spotlight for it to work though. It feels like wasted potential that could've been interesting
36:29 Yeah I guarantee that if Roger hadn't replaced him, Michael would've definitely run away from there, even before Terry planned to MURDER him.
I'm just wondering where their kid is since she's Francine's too
She's obviously with Terry.

Francine gave birth to her but it's very likely that she signed away parenting rights and allowed the Corbin-Bates family to adopt Libby and be her only legal parents. :)
I did not realize so many people thought this episode ruined Greg and Terry, I love this episode!
I feel like toshi was really ruined the second they did a episode where he stands up saying he could always speak English and walk away cause toshi for the longest time had a communication problem which strengthen the bond between him and the boys doe they weren't that good of friends
His mom: Why do you only speak Japanese?! I don't even speak Japanese!
I mean at this point there’s not much left on American dad that hasn’t been ruined.

A boy Named Michael was about how the grass isnt always greener on the other side
The Michael episode is still one of the funniest episodes
I don't think it was out of character how they ruined the characters in your mind. Terry grew up with a father that hated gays. That high maintenance made Terry want a life opposite of his dad. But Greg's high expectations is just as high maintenance as his father. And like many people when they realize they are living the same way like you did in your youth only a different way. You want to run away. So he did. And we never seen him again.
Or Terry was just a spoiled brat.
True but Terry kept digging himself a hole with the lies upon lies and he was kinda being a jerk to both Stan and Greg.
He brought it on himself the moment he dragged Stan and Francine into into the closet with him.

20:00 I just wanted to say. I got to see Beetlejuice at the Marquis last year with my little sister. It was so good ! She told me it was the best thing she’s ever seen. Now every-time I hear about it I get the warm fuzzies because she’ll remember that forever ! Thank you for making me smile, and listening to my Ted talk 🪲🧃
311 is a reference to a Canadian band called finger eleven they are amazing
The dog's name was Heath Ledger. Not sure why the channel host was unable to say this name.
Congratulations! A wise man once said, "Woooaaah We're halfway there. Wooaaah. Squidward on a chair."
I can't believe it took me this long to realize that American Dad was set in Virginia.

honestly about the lincoln thing, he probably wasnt gay he was probably just comfortable in his masculinity and not such a little bitch that expressing love for his male friends and being physically close to other men didnt make him feel like or seem like less of a man. the guy is the first recorded human to chokeslam someone in a fight, he doesnt NEED anyone else’s approval hes the OG Undertaker and youll put some respect on that fucking name whether you can handle him or not. and yeah its not gay to be affectionate towards your male friends, you arent fucking them, give your bro a hug from time to time if he isnt like traumatized or something and is cool with you hugging him because consent is still important, but yeah, fuck whatever bullshit reason you might have to think thats “gay” or “feminine” or any excuse youre gonna give. be open with the fact that you live your friends. youre gonna talk to each of them for the very last time one day, and after that moment you wont get another chance to say another thing, and YOU don’t usually get to know when that moment is going to be

It's crazy to me how Stan isn't a caricature of Republicans anymore, he literally is them.

Not only do I LOVE the Lincoln Lover episode, I think it does a great job of ousting the narrow-mindedness of the Conservatives; who are currently destroying the LGBTQ+ Community in worst ways Stan could.
One Republican suggested bringing back stoning people because back in the Bible Days, it was "okay"
False, there are gay conservatives who don't attend to the rainbow riders. Andy Ngo. Still Muslims and the black community don't like gays more.

the pregnancy (the 9 months of gestation) can be easy--no sickness, cravings, aches etc, while the birth can be difficult
Roger did probe stan in a earlier episode
My theory is the ones who said it's a choice to to be gay or not are all Bi who didn't know that was an option.
The nonchalant way Roger fingers Stan is bad, but lets not forget when Roger was mughing Jeff he equally nonchalantly said, "I'm gonna rape him this time." as though it were the most natural though to him.
I wonder, if Terry ever comes back, how it’s gonna happen.
I can imagine every1 being deluded in believing terry was there the whole time or being put back in the exact same role, no questions asked, until a few episodes where it’s actually discussed.
The Fact This Show Airs With The Big Bang Theory On TBS Every Monday Night. Shows That American Comedy Sitcoms Fucks This Country
I felt there could have been an episode that explores what drove Terry to break up with Greg and go on tour.
She said pregnancy was a breeze, not the birth.
Your reason that Terry left makes since for a midlife crisis.
They did really well on how trauma from childhood carries into your future relationships. The hiding of the junk food, the hiding of political views, the pressure to act a specific way to confirm your gayness, ex..
I like to think Terry just realized how shitty the show was getting and walked off into the void
I think the name Liberty Bell is really cute
It's incredibly nitpicky, but what always bothered me about the baby episode was that the baby should be dead several times over. She's a freaking newborn! She shouldn't be outside like that, she is not dressed properly, and most baby slings are not meant for newborns because they don't support the neck properly. Plus, without the mother or baby formula, she is slowly starving while Stan is driving across the country. My God...
How can they not recognize Roger? Also, why do shows have to ruin good characters?
No one recognizes Roger in costume except the Smiths, that's been part of the gag since he started wearing costumes
Even the Smiths all have the One Character They Don't Recognize, and when we saw Steve's POV for his One Character, Roger-in-costume didn't look anything like Roger to Steve, but just like a normal human girl
Just chalk it up to Alien Stuff, like Roger's superspeed or expelling green goop from his sides
You should look up 311. They are a pretty good band! Very chill music, somewhat of a mix between rock and reggae. My parents liked them pretty well when I was a kid so I have allot of nostalgia for there early music.

What a deep cut reference to Be More Chill and Michael in the bathroom! Awesome song awesome reference!
I like to think that they recognized Roger as their neighbors weird roomate pulling some prank and think he's fucking with them and the real micheal is coming later or that Roger was keeping him hostage somehow and that's why he killed them
