- Originally known as Odyssey when introduced to the series in 1984, the super light has progressed from an unsuspended, stock all-terrain type vehicle to a sophisticated racing machine that is a great favorite with stadium off-road fans, at first they were two Odyssey classes, one for unsuspended vehicles and the other with suspension systems. The former represented the stock Odyssey from Honda while the later was a modified version equipped with aftermarket shock absorbers, special A arms and other suspension components, but still retaining the stock frame and engine. as the class popularity continue to grow, more modifications became available, resulting in the manufacturing of special frames, which were soon followed by fully independent suspension systems, disc brakes, automatic clutches, and super tuned 360cc 2-stroke motors. in 1987 the unsuspended Odyssey designation was dropped, and later the name Odyssey was replaced by the super light title. The class already has its first second generation driver with the young son of Rory holladay, the first class champion, now competing. Reniey Awana who heads up the colorful and successful nature's recipe pet food team, is the veteran of the class, now in his ninth season as a driver. Awana's teammates include another seasoned veteran in Greg George, female drivers Shannon millen and Mercedes Gonzales, and the defending class champion, Jimmie Johnson.
