Gold standard policing. Watching this from Europe and flummoxed how US law is enforced. Interaction with public makes citizens feel like criminals before any investigation - Guilty until proven innocent. Are these low ID clowns not trained to investigate and de-escalate?. There has to be terminations, decertifications and jail time or these sadistic tyrants will never learn to protect and serve.

The LMPD is going to require a FOIA request. That is because , NO, the officers weren't charged. If they were, the LMPD would be proud to announce that justice has been served. They will make everyone jump through hoops because the LMPD is hoping nobody will bother to discover that the cops were not charged. The LMPD wants that covered up. This is precisely the situation I fear from police...assaulted in my own home with no cameras to record it. I don't consider body cameras to be at all useful. They can be turned off, or muted, at any time. The footage can easily be edited, corrupted, lost, or simply refused. LMPD - Earning the hate!

The fact that they tossed him off his stoop onto concrete for failure to comply then immediately lied and said he fell 🙄. Even a young and healthy person would have trouble in that situation with multiple people shoving guns in their face and different people barking out contradicting directions. Let alone an elderly man in his house coat with no idea what’s going on. I probably would have thought it was a home invasion at first. It’s lucky he didn’t answer the door with a gun, he’d probably be dead. I bet you they probably tried to say his cane was a deadly weapon to justify their actions.

I don’t know how to fix it, other than to make lawsuit settlement actually pain the individual cops, or pain the cops as a group. Require individual cops to carry private liability insurance. Like driving an automobile on the public roads, his liability insurance premiums are tied to his individual, professional, recklessness. Too many strikes, premiums are sky high, and Skippy would have to find a new line of work, like mixing paint at Home Depot. Collectively, the lawsuit settlements could come directly from a department’s retirement funds - Do stupid cop things, too often, and everyone’s retirement pay goes down.
