Crazy For You was the song that turned the tide for Madonna. But you are correct... many people. forget that some of her biggest hits were these ballads. She's criminally underrated.
First time I heard this, I was 11 or 12 living in Moscow, and did not understand a word. But got instant chills. I still get instant chills to this mind-blowing masterpiece.
What I love about this performance, although all the vocal issues, is how she delivered herself. It's very emotional. And, of course, she is absolutely beautiful. We cannot stop looking at her. She is a singer and an actress. So artistic.
I can tell she is exhausted. People say "she's no Celine Dion" but I have never seen Celine dancing professionally throughout the concert . Mariah Carey lip synced on a World Tour when she had to do some light dancing. Even when you don't dance your breathing may be affected and your body generally tired and unable to support the voice properly if you have danced before singing. Plus they didn't use ear phones live on stage back then. Madonna can sing, there was no autotune when she started her career, so her recordings speak for themselves, and if she gets nervous when singing on stage or her body and voice are tired that's another story. Enya, for example, didn't sing live much, because she got nervous so she mostly lip synced. Same with a blonde singer from Ace of Base.
yep... running a bit flat there at times BUT herself as a performer, this musical tune, lyrics and melody and everything about this song are amazing!!!
My favorite since I heard it 33 years ago. I was 13 and this song already gave me shivers even if I didn’t understand a word…it was her first world tour, she was a young singer. Her voice was raw yes but she used her emotions to sing live without anything else. Love it.
What the heck has being gay got to do with it? The song had a massive impact on me as well and I am about as straight as one can get. And don't start telling me how hard it was for you being gay, its was incredibly hard for me growing up as well. It is for a ton of people out there ehther they are gay, straight or whatever they are. Just being yourself is hard when you are young.
Madonna goes into a 8 minute performance of "Live To Tell". Her voice on this sounds strong, but you can most certainly hear the tiredness in her voice.

The problem with this song is the production was impractical to play live as any missed synth keys or sounds is annoying to the singer who originally recorded the vocals over those backing tracks. She's not a great singer, but she was more than just a pop singer. She was an artist, someone who lived in a beautiful time pushing boundaries. Her look here, her presentation in general, specially that hair. I was only 10 years old, but I was in love. I still am, and this live version deserves to be saved in the national archives. What a great team behind her and what a smart vision she had for her artform. By the time Like a Prayer (the album) dropped, they had mastered the formula and Like a Prayer exploded into eternity. "Live to Tell" is breath-taking, and along with "like a prayer (the song)," I was so in love! How I remember you, Late 1980s. Nothing felt the same in the 90's or ever after that when it came to her music, but I will always love you.

Sometimes it gets so hard to hide it well
I was not ready for the fall
Too blind to see the writing on the wall
A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, 'til then
It will burn inside of me
I know where beauty lives
I've seen it once, I know the warm she gives
The light that you could never see
It shines inside, you can't take that from me
A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, 'til then
It will burn inside of me
The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell
The secret I knew then
Will I ever have the chance again
If I ran away, I'd never have the strength
To go very far
How would they hear the beating of my heart
Will it grow cold
The secret that I hide, will I grow old
How will they hear
When will they learn
How will they know
A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well

While she didn’t use playback? We love Madonna because of her music and her creativity. Not her voice!!
Her voice is why I love her .
The best Madonna.
1987 I was born
I was not ready for the fall, too blind to see the writing on the wall...
Amo essa música....cara ,que época, meus 16 anos
Os meus eram os 7 anos e já sabia o que era uma música de verdade.
Madonna best song and my favourite
Fab song. Was lucky enough to hear her play this at Wembley in 87 as it was from the record. That was before she started fucking around with her songs when she played them live.
If I were Madonna...I would say to my advisors who keep stars lives personal....WTF...I am extremely tired of I fear an insane stalker will pull the same bullshit or better yet artist who just take off with my fucking notebooks can just become big. What a wonderful fucking world where everything a true entertainer struggles to obtain can be swept away by tragedy after tragedy.
This the Madonna that I remember and love...
God 1987 Wish it Was.........Anyway it's 2015 and your Still On TOP!! WELL DONE MADONNA. xxx
Her voice was really tired here, still great! Love her
Madonna did a decent vocal singing. And the instruments sounded just like the studio version.Stop complaining ,she was dancing and that will make you tired!!!
