These are really great, i bought the weathered #9189, they even got the beacon location right, yours was on the conductor side while the the 9189 has it on the engineers side. Pretty good detailing on that.
I'm a big fan of SP's tunnel motors having grown up watching them crossing the Causeway between Davis and Sacramento CA. But my interest is mainly classic SP before the diesels got lobotomized, like this diesel missing the UDE light.
What an excellent review as ever, John I live in Southwest Britain and I rely heavily on the Critiques that you do in Videos like this. Would you say that Athearn Products represent some of the Best Ready to Run H0 Models of US Railway Engines and Stock at the Moment? It would be a great help if you started a 'Best Product of the Month' or Year Spot. Best Wishes for Christmas and the New Year to you and your Lady.
I would say that Athearn represents some of the best ready to run HO models at the moment. No question about that. That's not to say that others are not also excellent, though! As far as "best product of the month" I don't think I see enough of what comes out every month to do a fair assessment of such. Even if I saw every single product released, I don't think I'd have time to evaluate all of them!
John good review. Do you have an email or media address that I can contact you off channel? I want to ask you a question not really related to this subject or directly related to this channel.
That's any interesting question. The older ones in the older Athearn RTR locos did not but the newer or current RTR do have the start up and shut down sounds. The Athearn RTR line locomotives are fantastic in my opinion. I own 15 of them !!! Great product for the price.
It looks awesome. I'm especially impressed with the rear truck design.
I love my tunnel motor, first loco I bought after the Camp Fire. You do a great job John, keep it uo. Hope to meet you sometime.
Thanks, Jim! Remind me who you are when we cross paths. Something like "the guy who got the tunnel motor after the Camp fire" would jog my memory. :))
Thanks, John, another excellent review with great accompanying close-ups. Neat!! - Crew Member Dean from Minnesota
very nice engine, Athearn is doing a really great job with their engines!
Nice locomotive . Thanks for the insightful review.
Great review John!
That's really nice for straight from the factory.
About time athearn excepts LEDs for the longest time it was we use bulbs for a realistic look.

Awesome review
Cool locomotive John
It sounds like all of the SP SD40T-2s that I saw as a kid in San Jose.
This and that previous sd40t-2 should be double heading a freight train for your next layout tour.

TSG Multimedia Thanks John, just a Thought.
Wonder why Athearn didn’t make the beacon light work?
It does work. Did you watch the video?
TSG Multimedia I did watch it. Guess some how I missed it. Sorry.
John good review. Do you have an email or media address that I can contact you off channel? I want to ask you a question not really related to this subject or directly related to this channel.
