    For people just learning - you MUST learn the major scale in the key positions (CAGED system is a great way to visualize the fretboard). Then you'll have the base to learn anything. Learn some theory, as applied to guitar. I recommend Desi Serna's books. Practice a lot to get your fingers moving fluidly. It doesn't happen overnight.

    beginners who would like to get familiar with GD style jamming should make best friends with most minor pentatonics, some dorian scales, mixo scales, and be ready to learn barre chords and minor chords! Practice those switches and good luck! Thanks Marty! I still need to work on incorporating some improv licks here and there for some spice :)

    also thanks for all the help and free videos marty, but i still have one more question and im very confused about it. if you do use parallel keys than how come if you are in the key of e major you used b dorian? i thought that if we went to e majors parallel key (eminor) than the b note in e minor would be phrygian, since the b is the 5th note in the e minor scale, making it phrygian. please someone help it would mean alot + others might be having the same confusion so help them to.

    this has nothing to do with borrowing chords from a parallel key does it? i thought to borrow chords from keys the keys had to be parallel, like cminor borrowing from cmajor. can you just borrow chords from anywhere, starting in a dorian then borrowing from c sharp major?

    Damn man trying ro make the switch from rythem to lead. Figured out the e m pent scale this is alittle over my head where is a good base to start so I can make my assault on lead guitar

    • @Jordanxboxalmostj
      @Jordanxboxalmostj 8 лет назад

      Try learning your scales and your music theory like if you had the chords C F G Am what scales could you play over those? Also you said you have learnt the minor pentatonic which is a great start try learning the blues as you're only adding one note too it, also have a look at the natural minor and the major scale also and try adding some chromatic notes as they are always fun :) once you have learnt a new scale or idea try it over some different backing tracks in different keys. You may also want to learn some arpeggios like minor, major, minor 7, major 7 and diminished.

    • @andystephenson5407
      @andystephenson5407 8 лет назад

      +Jordanxboxalmostj since I write that in June I have a incentives learned the major and minor pentatonic scales I'm also able to put the natural minor or major scale in there occasionally iv started to learn the CAGED system but I struggle with it. I figured I would stay away from the other modes untill I figure out the aeolian scale and have a good base to build on. arpeggios are a good suggestions are they related to triads ,because people keep telling me to learn triads but it's hard to learn something when you don't know what your learning

    • @andystephenson5407

      +Thunder Death 2 sorry about auto correct, I'm writing this on my phone keypad

    • @Jordanxboxalmostj
      @Jordanxboxalmostj 8 лет назад

      +Thunder Death 2 that sounds like your off to a great start and have improved since writing your comment :) triads in my understanding is a three note chord like C major has the notes C E G or Am has A C E modes are easy but people get confused with them so say if you are playing C major scale over Cmajor chord you are playing the C Ionian mode but if you play Cmajor scale over Am you are playing A Aeolian mode it's not always the scale you play it's the chord you play over like you could change key for every chord in a progression which is very common in jazz such as if you play the chords Dm G7 Cmaj7 you could play Cmajor over that as that's the key or you could play Fmajor over Dm, G Diminished over G7 and Gmajor over Cmaj7 doing this will sound much different then just playing C major over them all.
