      So I know it's been two months, but not much has changed, so hello
      So basically there's a law that has been explicitely made to shut down and punish protestors, "expressing extremist symbolic" and for that there is an official list of oppositionist Organisations that are considered "extremist ot Terrorist", navalny is one of them, therefore any symbolism that has just anything to do with navalny can get you to jail for multiple years.

    If you never have been in Russia or Belarus or other places like that, the pervasive uncertainety in those matters and how it warps everyday life. In general authorities are repressive, thugish but dysfunctional, corrupt and careless as well, which makes it tricky to guess where you're at. The haphazard enforcement might actually be calculated, keeping a lid on using limited ressources without kicking off a backlash. Everysone is on their toes, guessing where the wind is blowing, reading between the lines, following gossip ,and keeping their head down.

If You will look on middle and eastern countries of Europe, many of them, were occupied in past and they fought on the street and they finally won. Look on Ukraine. People were dying on the streets to get freedom. Same was with Poland, Romania, Lithuania and many other nations. Why do You think this is not possible in Russia?

    • @antonlevkovsky1667
      @antonlevkovsky1667 Месяц назад

      Let me give you some inside information about your holy cow Ukraine: they are grabbing you from the streets for signs now too. They grabbed 2 guys with anti recruitment posters about a week ago in Kiev. There was a mass protest around a recruitment center a week or two ago, which led to freeing of 4 guys they abducted from streets. Ok, big success. But the organizers of the meeting now get huge jail time! You can say, but the country is at war. Same applies for Russia - it is at war, although hypocritically called special military operation. The seriousness can be assessed from the recent events of UA incursion into Kursk oblast, drones flying at oil recycling facilities etc.

    Politics 101 in Russia involves torture and is so casually talked about, it's insane. I had a Russia coworker who thought Putin was okay for murdering his opponents and went on to basically say that they do the same thing here. They're a broken people. They have no clue what a meritocracy is. We have our problems, for sure, but we don't torture or imprison people for their thoughts and speech.

    In communist Poland, the authorities allowed cabarets and even dissidents to do a lot to gain credibility in the international community.
    I know it didn't work this way in the USSR and it doesn't work in Russia. That's why I think there's something behind the change to the previous format that you don't want to reveal. Interesting comment, I'm just an ordinary Brit who knows little of what you have described although I too noticed the changes with this channel and, to be honest, my only surprise was that it came a lot later than I'd have thought.
      Having said that, I'm eternally grateful for every single minute of what Daniel filmed and recorded.
      The biggest surprise for me was simple, it was how similar in appearance the people being interviewed were to people I know, people I've grown up with, even family in some cases. What shocked me more than anything were there words and thoughts, there violent thoughts and fears being articulated coherently, matter of fact, right in front of me. The shock of their abject hatred for people who they will probably never meet was shocking, simply because there children will willingly die trying to kill them to please there hate filled parents. Why?

    So you do not like living in Russia? I see videos of Canadians, Americans and British having moved to Russia. Are they crazy or are they like you, malcontents in their own country? About a million Russians have left the country and living somewhere foreign. Why were they allowed to leave? There are currently about 45 political parties in Russia, 5 of them in the Duma (you know your parliament). Could you not join any of them ? That is if you really care to make a change for better in your country. Make a change from within, it is your country, take pride in what you have. The future belongs to you.

      As I understand, Russia is mostly run by the oligarchy. Different oligarchs have different sources of income. Some of the most prominent own the natural resources - oil, minerals etc. They have more or less endless wallets. They use some of their money to make sure elections always have favourable outcomes. To simulate democracy they put various candidates as opponents to Putin. However, if someone's successful enough they will find some way of disabling them. Ekaterina Dunatsova, for example was disqualified in the elections by not having filed the right application. It's not a system that is designed to be fair, just to simulate enough fairness.

    • @moggadah

      It's interesting that some people move to Russia while others are moving away. I once saw a documentary about a person who infiltrated North Korea with a hidden camera. He started by becoming member of a North Korean friendship club in his Western country. Surprisingly there were other members who looked like ordinary westerners. The question in my mind was why would someone living in the west like to live in north Korea?
      I think that when people for different reasons aren't satisfied with their lives they try to find solutions. Some attempts to solve their satisfaction may be to try out what other people dismisses. Humans don't always do what you think would be the most natural thing. In USA for example some think gun violence will be solved by adding more guns.
      I think people move to Russia to find what they think is a cohesive society. They see a chaotic splintered society in the west. For example lbgtq, decline and drugs. This narrative is supported by the Russian authorities and pushed in state media. For those people Russia seems like a bastion of wholesomeness. Social media has with its emotionally centered content made critical thinking much harder, so it's easy to buy into this image. Russia has pockets of wholesomeness but on the other hand has also some very cynical sides. I'm pretty sure the war in Ukraine will go on until Ukraine is defeated or Russia runs out of manpower or resources. If Ukraine is defeated Russia will move on and try to invade the Baltics.
      What the world needs is not cynical thinking. It's not improbable that humankind soon will face environmental issues that are existential. Conquest and wars remove our ability to solve issues that are much more important.

      I think its a bit of propaganda to be honest and I'm a hard right American type. Are they going to put these westerners who probably came in with money and expertise in most cases on the front lines? But forget Putin and all that nonsense you have to look at Russian history as a whole. YOU may be fine, but what about your children and grandchildren? Russia doesn't have the same regard for human life and there's no great likelihood that will change soon. And all large powers except for China (and that's likely to change in the future) flex their muscles so you could have the nicest guy as president of Russia and he's extremely likely to end up in a war. America is pretty much always at war but we don't actually face much direct blowback. An ideal country is probably something like Japan which is large and strong enough that no country could easily take it over yet (except for a brief period) its small enough to know that there are limits to its power.
