  • Hey sailors,
I've been contemplating creating this video for some time now. As you can probably understand, opting not to return to sea has been a tough call. Your support means the world to me, but this isn't farewell to the cruising life and its crew; it's simply a new chapter.

Lucy, I spent 12 years in the U.S. Army living all around the world. I traveled Europe, South America and the Pacific Rim.The truth of the mater is, you can never really "Go Home" again. Your travels have made you the person you are now and you'll never see "Home" through the same eyes again. This can be a VERY positive thing, YOU are now the wise traveler of legend! 😀 Stay well internet friend.............

It’s so rare that I comment on a video, but I want to say thank you so much Lucy. I just got my first cruise ship contract as a cookery teacher on a great cruiseline (Silversea) starting next month. I’ve been waiting since December, and working 12-hour days in my current job, but always watch these videos when I get home from work tired. You’ve helped us see a lot of crew life that you just can’t find anywhere else. Thanks for all the time and effort you out into all these videos. Take it easy on land, book some nice holidays and hope it helps you adjust. :)

I lived abroad for 7 years in the UK and came back to California when my dad got ill. The big thing for me was finding a new routine in life once I got back home. It helped me to get settled again. It was hard - in t hat 7 years my friends and family all did a lot of living without me - but I found that finding a new routine, including a new passion in work, was what helped me. I think the big thing is to give yourself grace and patience.. it’s a big change to come off the ship… you’ll find your place and your path again, just will take whatever time it takes.

    Lucy,
By the time we found your channel my daughter had already applied and been offered a job with a cruise line but all your advice videos were incredibly helpful as she sorted herself out prior to actually setting off. She's nearly five months into her contract now (where did the time go?😮) and is loving life at sea. I've continued to watch your videos and will undoubtedly keep doing so.
Whatever life brings you in the forthcoming months I wish you good luck. Take care and thank you. 😊

Whatever you need for you and your family is the right call. I'll stick around and support you in whatever decisions you make down the line. You are a wealth of knowledge even if not actively a cruise crew member so I'm happy to hear you still want to make cruise content. Hell, if you ever started a vlog channel about not cruise stuff I'd watch that too! I actually had the pleasure of meeting you when you were working shops (Sunglass Hut I believe) on a Virgin ship and the joy and light you radiate in your videos is somehow 10x brighter in person so you deserve the the peace and happiness in your decisions and life as possible.

I can't blame you. It's not easy. Working as crew is grueling and isn't easy as one gets older, relationships, health, etc. Exactly, as a former caregiver to my Mom, it takes your time, needs, everything and you sacrifice A LOT! I am 40 now, and always wanted to go and work on a cruise ship, and somehow it just didn't happen for me, since I learn from you, I am really getting everything in order to take this direction, but this time, with greater peace and very much at ease. You're a blessing❤

Even though you know you made the right decision for now, it’s okay to feel that you would like to be back at sea. Give yourself time to adapt.
I started out as an au pair in the U.S 2006, didn’t feel ready with the states when I came home 2008. I worked in Sweden but felt lost so I applied to college and got in August of 2010. In October/November 2010 my dad was diagnosed with cancer and I knew deep down that I wasn’t ready to go home so soon but I also made the decision to finish my first semester and then I had to put my studies on hold. It wasn’t my plan but I adapted and knew I couldn’t support my dad while in the US so I went back to be with him. And I don’t regret it but it wasn’t easy. But I’m so glad that I could be there for him. In February 2013 he passed away and I got two years with him that meant so much for me and him. So when everything was settled I reapplied to the same school and got in once more. I graduated 2016 and stayed and worked for another year. 2017 came and then my grandmother (my dads mom) was also diagnosed with cancer so then I had 4 more months of my visa but decided to move back home. And this time I felt ready in a way I hadn’t before. I still miss my friends and chosen family in the states but I knew I was content.
    So my recommendations are:
Find a job, so that you get routines and social networking. Or take some classes.
Know that it’s okay to miss the sea life
Be nice to yourself, do things that you enjoy. (That way you will have more energy to help/support your family member)
As for your channel just do you, you are such a great person and I really like your videos. Content is interesting but I like to hear what you have to say so if you talk about sea or animals or anything els it’s up to you 😊 Maybe you can do local travel guides, or must visit places in England ❤
    Lots of love, Camilla

Hey Lucy! I've been watching and subscribed since the beginning. I'm happy for you and your choices for you. I was a professional wrestler for 7 years for 2 major companies in the U.S. when I was released from the last company I worked for it was an adjustment. I was used to being on the road 20 plus nights a month. I found the first couple of months to be tough as I was under a no-compete so I decided to travel some on my own and just taper it off as I went on while I decided firmly what I wanted to do and where I really wanted to plant roots. My advice would be take it slow and try new things to see if anything else sparks you. I hope for the best for you and hope to bump into you one day!

You will never regret putting your family first. It is so hard it was for me going from full time to one day a week as nurse but it was the best decision ever. This is time to reflect, reconnect and help your family. You still can have some exciting content I live in the US what you have to offer where you are from would be very interesting to me. You could work as a cruise agent hooking people up on cruises or finding the best deals. I would love to hear cruise news from you rather than cruisers. Hope things will be okay with you and family. I will still check in and have enjoyed what you have put out as well. You might be busier than you think.

Thank you for telling us that you have decided not to return to a ship at least for this year. I felt so sorry for you last contract, you were sent to Florida, then somewhere in the Caribbean to do training, then back to USA, then you were not allowed to say which ship you were on etc. perhaps you can sign on with a Cruise Line Company that is a better “fit” for you and who will be delighted to get you as Staff. You have a wealth of knowledge and I look forward to seeing what job you take on land until you return to the sea. I am delighted that you will be helping your family at this time. Good luck in your dry land job. 🍀🍀🌠☕️

Lucy, I totally feel you! You never really feel like home again. Me working and living in multiple european coutries since my age of 18, going "back home" ment always going on holiday. They settled down in the uk to study university, graduated and returned "back home" just before the Brexit, which was the biggest mistake of my life, because the following covid trapped me there. It felt like prison. I was broke, depressed with luck of hope for the future. The result of it is im searching for cruise job. Regarding you I would suggest to try to focus on the benefits of being on land. You can do all the things you never could - decorate your home, refurbish it, enjoy the space (roll on the floor or something :D), which was out of question in those tiny cabins back on sea. Join joga class, go to mountines. I would try to remember how i felt first time adjusting to the sea life and apply the same techniqes to your new environment. I wish you all the best in your endevours and may you be happy whatever you decide to do. Kind Regards, Kristyna from Czechia ;)

Job/career changes are an important part of life. Being available to family when they need you is important. Taking a break is important. What helped me when I retired (30+ years as a Speech Language Pathologist) was to try something I had wanted to do for a very long time.. Was it easy....nope. Is it fun....some days better than others. Make a schedule and stick to it/get in a routine....we are all creatures of habit.....yes there will be days when a family need arises that will toss the schedule out the window, and that is the way it goes..... I found your channel from watching @jordanbauth and the algorithm decided to have me watch you, and I found it fun and interesting. Best of luck on future endeavors , Have fun, enjoy life! (and now I best get back to my editing schedule, or my very small youtube channel subscribers will have nothing to watch this week) ;)

As I said previously Lucy YOU, are the shining star, of this channel. I also understand your need to maintain a level of privacy in your life. My best advice to you (after 32 years in advertising) is to do both. Show yourself, your life in the UK, your friends, things you do, as the main part of your channel... with side bars to cruising as they evolve. Your subs will grow and exceed the rate they did before. You may even make some very decent money from YT. I wish you the best. You're a sweet girl!

I lived abroad for 2 years in Spain then came back home the USA. Challenge 1: When I came back, most of the acquaintances I met and people i thought were friends had already moved away or changed contact information without telling me. What I did was spend time with the 2 friends who keep in contact the entire time and hung out with them more to catch up both our lives.
Challenge 2: adjusting to new food when returning home. After living in Spain, I slowly could eat meat in the USA due to both countries have different regulations. Same thing for diary products. I slowly adjusted my diet over a course of 2-3 months though I am now lactose intolerant sunce coming back from leaving abroad.
Tip 3: find people to hang out with who have been working on cruise ships for a long period and chat with them. I lost friends between the time I left and returned from study abroad in the USA.
    Tip 4: journaling
Tip 5: try to do small trips in your home country that remind you of the cruise ship. Example: Eat at a speciality restaurant near your home.
Tip 6: find new hobbies and a routine to help you adjust. Example: I started walking a few mornings a week and walking/jog 2-4 5k a year.
Hope some of the tips help. Allow yourself at least 6-8 weeks to adjust.

Changing careers isn't unusual at all, many/most people do so, sometimes a number of time.
Speaking generally, no company names or anything, what sort of job do you have now?

What are your thoughts about working on a cruise ship with little ones. My daughter turns 1 next month and I've been researching working on cruise ships & came across your channel. I'm a Merchandise Manager at a Dollar Tree in a little ole town in Texas. I'll be working and listening to your channel. Really love your channel btw. But my question is how common is it for cruise ships to allow your children to cruise with you? I looked it up and it said under certain circumstances for instance if you weren't part of the emergency crew and didn't have a mustard station to report too. Or specific jobs with high ranking. I just want to know your take on the situation. Like how common or likely do you think it would be. If anyone else wants to answer, feel free too. I know she's a busy woman and has a lot of comments to go through . I know I'm going there to work I really want to. I just can't really bear the thought of leaving her back home. So I want to know how likely that option is before I go through with all of it. I don't want to go through the hiring process and all that paperwork for me to bring that up to HR and for them to be like heck no . I don't want to seem unprofessional and mess up a future chance maybe when she's a little older.

Hi love, unfortunately I don't know of anyone who has been able to to bring their child onboard during a contract.
All the people I know who have kids, leave their kids back home with grandparents or another care-giver whilst they are working on cruise ships.
I don't want to be the one to burst your bubble but I believe you would have to be willing to leave your baby to be able to work on ships.
For many people, this isn't an option so, something you may want to consider is waiting, and working on cruise ships when your child is older. I know many people who have teenagers back home.
      I hope this helps 🙏 💕
