When I was 14 I discovered I could partly pull out my headphones from the jack and hear songs in a different way. Vocals kinda removed. You get to hear stuff buried in the mix… and on Dinosaur Jr’s version of Just like Heaven you can hear Mascis burp loudly with reverb. Anyway…
I think I remember reading about the abrupt ending. That the Master tapes got fucked, and just abruptly ended, and after listening they just liked it and kept it as is.
I just saw The Cure almost two weeks ago. They played for almost three hours. Many of the hits, deep album cuts and seven new songs that are possibly on the forthcoming album if they ever actually release it. They still sound great. Just like The Cure. Been listening since 1985 when Head on the Door was the current album. They helped me through some times.
Original Just Like Heaven was alright. Dinosaur Jr killed it. Robert Smith agrees! Also Dinosaur Jr ran out of tape on the cover of Just like heaven because the album they did before that single had a lot of layering
The Cure can’t be beat but the cover is great in context. Im sure it’s hard to understand Dinosaur Jr without hearing their music. I’ve seen it live so many times from both bands and never disappointed in either.
Was the end even more shocking than the scream on "YOOUUU"? Heheh that's Lou Barlow screaming. He does that on a few songs, "Don't" in particular, quite bleak sounding, like early Stooges but much noisier. But they have some much cleaner songs you would like. Feel The Pain, Out There, Over It, Freak Scene, and their later music videos are great. They feature great guests such as Henry Rollins, Maria Bamford, Fred Armisen... Also OFF! makes excellent music videos. Do you have any taste for hardcore or noise? I do, obviously heheh
I mean there were a ton of bands who were doing grunge before Nirvana. Alice in Chains for example. Nirvana just got famous because Kurt offed himself.
omg. this was out of the blue... did not expect The Cure in this series... I can go on and on about The Cure. OK. one more listen to the cover before I comment...
How much Cure are you familiar with? I’d love to see more reaction to them. I think they are so incredible. Roberts instrumentation and sense of melody is incredible.
OK. let's talk - there are 2 kinds of 80s bands: those stuck in the 80s (I'll refrain from naming names with last name Iris and others ...) and those who were looking forward (The Cure, Jane's Addiction, Morrissey, Sting...) So, even though I've never heard of this - it's a good cover... this band was clearly moving forward from the 80s in a good way... To be fair, there are good 80s-stuck bands (Human League, Blondie, Eurythmics...). oh. wait. I wan't supposed to name names... oops.
Give You're Living All Over Me a listen. It's the most interesting album in their discography to me. You can hear their influence on grunge, shoegaze and stoner rock
13:25 I first heard this on their best of album Ear-Bleeding Country from 2001. I had your reaction. I returned the CD and said I'd like another copy because there was a song that was faulty. Nope, turns out I was the one that was faulty.
Great vid man. Check out J's cover of Fade Into You by Mazzy Star. I hope you've listened to more of Mascis, his solo albums are incredible. My fave DJ album is Where You Been. I wish I could experience them again for the first time like you did here.
Dinosaur jr version is so in your face, it can be jarring but the lazy vocal drawl really suits the melody and lyrics of the song - that "Must have been asleep for days" line, lol
Yeah, I have to say, I appreciate artists (Dinosaur Jr. included) covering songs and marking their territory. Sometimes it really works well. But, in this case, I'll stick with the original, thank you.
Different, original, that's for sure. But I wouldn't say it's a good cover. Don't like it. Maybe the problem is that the original song is such a perfect tune imo.
To me this is both good and bad. I love the idea, but the execution is not my favorite. I've always felt it's a young band that's still figuring out there sound and learning the studio. Dinosaur Jr. along with the Pixies are so influential on the Grunge movement. You could have heard Start Choppin or Feel like Pain both were minor hits in the 90s.
Robert Smith preferred the version by Dinosaur Jr. and said the Cure always played closer to the Dinosaur Jr. version.
I don't hear the difference from the studio version and the live versions when the cure plays it. Can you point out any differences
Best. Cover. Ever.

Anyway…
I think it only removed the mono signal when you do that
I think I remember reading about the abrupt ending. That the Master tapes got fucked, and just abruptly ended, and after listening they just liked it and kept it as is.
This way they are in the rock and roll hall of fame
I recommend listening to Little Fury Things, great dinosaur Jr song. Also I love your channel

Robert Smith is a very underated musician. The band rocks loud live . I'm seing em next weekend in Mtl
THIS COVER REALLY IS THE BEST I HAVE EVER HEARD!
Original Just Like Heaven was alright. Dinosaur Jr killed it. Robert Smith agrees! Also Dinosaur Jr ran out of tape on the cover of Just like heaven because the album they did before that single had a lot of layering

Husker Du's cover of The Byrds' Eight Miles High is another phenomenal cover. It will knock your socks off.
J’s vision and expression through guitar is unmatched. Can’t stand the sickly sweet soppiness of the original or any cure song tbh.
Love Song. I guess that's the other Song from the Cure you were trying to remember.

Oh live '97, Lou was kicked out in like '89. So that bassist was Mike, who did not scream YOU. J is great, he's my happy times concert dude
Big Muff is all over that DJ cover.
I loved the cure as a teenager and still do. First album for me was seventeen seconds, had one of my favourites; the forest on it.
One of my favourite covers. Love both versions
Dinosaur Jr does awesome covers, this is one of their best.
Dinosaur Jr. was grunge before Nirvana. 😂
Kurt ask J Mascis to join Nirvana
I mean there were a ton of bands who were doing grunge before Nirvana. Alice in Chains for example. Nirvana just got famous because Kurt offed himself.
Yes way ... P.s. listen to the song in a jar...it's amazing.
omg. this was out of the blue... did not expect The Cure in this series... I can go on and on about The Cure. OK. one more listen to the cover before I comment...
Dinosaur jr 🦖💜🔥
the live version is absolutely just like heaven
This is actually the plot of "Finnegans Wake", I never realized it before.
Dinosaur Jr. always! But did anyone come here to plug the AFI version performed in front of the Cure at an MTV tribute to the Cure?
How much Cure are you familiar with? I’d love to see more reaction to them. I think they are so incredible. Roberts instrumentation and sense of melody is incredible.

i would 100% watch a video of you reacting and listening to a dino jr album and this cover rocks 🤟🤟
Give You're Living All Over Me a listen. It's the most interesting album in their discography to me. You can hear their influence on grunge, shoegaze and stoner rock
It’s a great cover, it’s its own thing. You need to dig deeper into their catalog.
13:25 I first heard this on their best of album Ear-Bleeding Country from 2001. I had your reaction. I returned the CD and said I'd like another copy because there was a song that was faulty. Nope, turns out I was the one that was faulty.

The Cure... Now there's a rabbit hole
lol. so true.
Check out breathe
The original just can't be beat but the live version from Dinosaur Jr is a decent cover in my opinion.
I'll go with the cure on this one lol
😂the only band as cool as Dinosaur was Royal Trux😂
Dinosaur jr version is so in your face, it can be jarring but the lazy vocal drawl really suits the melody and lyrics of the song - that "Must have been asleep for days" line, lol
Thats It! 😂
But there is better versions.
It's laughable that these two versions should be compared. I love Dinosaur Jr, but they just rode roughshod over a beautiful song!
