To All my N55 performance afficado lol These motors where designed to be softer to break by bmw. They heavily put the n20/n55 in everything and nothing but problems. That being said the reason for catastrophic failure is softer con rod bearings + DI fuel dilution. So 3-5k oil changes kids , Cam faster bolt backing out, and the vvl gear wearing out and sending electric surge to dme(fuse wired between vvl and dme. Also timing chain stretch and injector failure. Also oil pan needs an oil baffle to keep constant oil available to oil pump (get Chinese on aluminum weld a baffle), current design under heavy cornering it starves snd causes oil to float to other side of pan. (compare s55 oil pan to oem) and you'll see. Now if you do all these upgrades to this engine it will hold up to stage 2 and custom tune around 550hp. Also refresh solenoids and trans filter fluid. bhp flash will put a lot of pressure on trans veins. bout $2500 new motor 3800-5k plus labour=8k

About to hit 150k miles on my n55 and it’s been up to date with maintenance and still runs smooth. Can’t wait to go FBO soon.
Facts they run smooth if you take care of them, I’ve heard of plenty making it past 200k
