- Here is it guys.. the best rival series of harman kardon & JBL. Boombox 3 vs Onyx Studio 8
There are two parts of test in this video. The Bass test and the High and mids. If you find this video quite long for a sound test, that's because each speaker test have 1 min video so the listener can absorb how the speaker performs. After both speaker are tested, i made a sequence comparison to so tge viewers will see and hear how they sound differently from each other.

I prefer Onyx Studio 8. The issue with too bassy speakers is that if the sound is not loud you cannot appreciate it. With Onyx, even with 30%, you hear everything at its best.

Heavy bass is a must but doesnt mean its good overall, but with the price gap, i rather go 2 HKOS8 (stereo paired) instead of single BB3, for bigger sound stage and of course much heavy bass with this setup 😂

I believe that in order to evaluate the sound quality, the comparison should be done at the same volume. They have completely different power. If you just set 80% on both devices, boombox sounds significantly louder. Please add this kind of comparison to your tests

Great comparison, but rather subjective.. Kindly use a decibel meter in your next comparison so we get actual info on the speakers
yeah, BB3 is louder , the bass is louder too, but for what ypu are paying for the OS8 you are getting much more refined audio, and overall clearer sounds , a loud bass is not better than a refined and clear bass.
Yes is all about it. The people don’t understand, the quality of the sound matter. Is not all about loud.
the onyx 8 still very nice for the price. clean sound. bb3 still even cleaner and fuller sound but very very expensive.
I always prefer quality of Bass and overall sound instead of quantity of Bass with compromises on overall sound quality 📢

i just recently buy JBL BB3 i love them both but JBL is much more applicable on outdoors. so pick the JBL BB3
I just pulled the trigger on the Onyx 6 brand new right from Harmon Kardon for $100 bucks! I heard one at a mechanic shop that's about 80'X40'. I didnt even know what it was until I was told I could turn it down, because it was too loud! When I went to do to turn it down, and saw what I now know is an Onyx 6, I about crapped my pants! I could buy a 7 for $150 but why? The bad is I had already bought a new Sony receiver, Neumi BS5 speakers and a Elac 1010 subwoofer for my garage, when all I needed is an Onyx 6 on sale! I got good prices on the equipment through Amazon, but still spent $500 and needed to install wall mounts, run wires and find a place for a subwoofer. We also bought two JBL Charge 5's last week! So many choices out there. Would love to experience the Boombox 3, but the Onyx was a cheaper solution.
Onyx 8 unplugged only delivers 30w, it was done with it plugged in delivering 50w rms and where does it increase the bass?
Jbl gets a powerboost while plugged in also.

Looks interesting... if you like indoor music listening, that's a great option. But for rough use outdoor parties.. BB3 is the better option

I'm more of a bass head so I'll take the bb3 any day of the week.... But the onyx 8 does have great sounding highes and mids.... But the bb3 still wins in the end... Good job JBL😎💯
O que percebi é que a onyx 8 tem um som mais refinado enquanto a bb3 tem um som muito bom e forte, mas temos que lembrar que a bb3 tem 130W vs 50W da OS8, sendo assim é óbvio que a bb3 ficará mais alto tendo em vista que a cada vez que dobramos a potência ganhamos +3db de pressão sonora, mas como qualidade e potencia são propósitos diferentes resumo que: quem deseja qualidade de estúdio vá de OS8 e quem presa pelo volume vá de bb3. It's difficult to tell but the Onyx 8 seems to have richer more balanced sound, where as the boombox 3 is a lot clearer and greater seperation, but costs more than double the price of teh Onyx 8

Since the price of bb3 equates almost to 2 os8, maybe you can do comparison between 1 bb3 vs 2 os8(link together) in the near future. Just a suggestion but i think more viewers are also gona like the idea. =)

I have both, well, the BB3 wifi edition and like someone said, bb3 is angry and aggressive yet beautiful.The price is well worth it at $499.

The tech specs are when the speakers are played on battery mode or AC mode? I've been with HK Onxy Studio speakers up to their 6 but, I would go with JBL for their higher output range and better portable/carry design. I would attach neck strap to JBL handlebar and wear it when on my Segway Ninebot S. HK Onxy Studio 8 design is horrible for carrying or wearing portability. JBL speaker battery mode always surpasses HK Onxy Studio battery mode by twice as much play time at full volume. I would usually have portable speaker connected to portable power tool battery power inverter anyway to get the best full range sound out of them over their battery mode and just replace drained power tool battery with a charged one to keep speaker going on the move and away from power outlets.
I don’t really see the difference between the two, but I prefer the JBL

To me the Onyx is more refined, very composed and compressed sounds. The bb3 has kind of loud noise around it. And i prefer composed and compressed sounds more. So the onyx ix my pick.
Jbl sounds more clear/open and has more soundstage, while the HK spreads the sound out in a circle and sounds balanced.

In my ears it seems that speakers are at a different level and it's hard to compare the quality of the sound.Other than that good comparison.
The HK sounds much,much better...the JBL has a more bass,but the better quality ,detailed sound,comes from the HK

I have the OS8 and that thing sounds so loud even at 50% also has to do with the quality input. its so clear and refined, my Roomate has the JBL and yeah its bass is def punchier but sounds terrible with anything else.

Yes! You'll love the sound a lot better in a close space when it comes to quality and balance. I cannot judge your tolerance to loudness bcoz cars usually have bigger speakers.. so loudness maybe a question.
If you can, go for jbl partybox 110, huge difference power.

I ratter bought a pair (x2) HK Onyx 8 to play on dual mode (no stereo availability) and i found them totally pleasant to listen , even having 2 of these HK it is cheaper than on JBL and sounds better by far!

Tryed them alive. There's no big difference in this video. But in reality BB3 is times better. I don't like the design of both of them. And Onyx is far behind in terms of functionality. But, in sound, (soundstage, loudness)... everything! Everything is much worse on Onyx. I wanted to save money... but, not this time.

Harman слишком высоко настроен,из за этого он кажется обладает более студийным звуком,но если слушать композиции где преобладают низкие частоты такие колонки начинают просто выделять вокал и композиция звучит так как будто там баса и никогда небыло и так её и записали. Проще говоря он чаще врёт!!!

Please sample real music with actual musical instruments! This is electronic computer generated sounds. Perhaps you like it, but it is not showcasing what the speakers can do! Try getting into classic rock! All original analog recordings; many remastered to high res lossless. Bass is supposed to be musical, with a range if notes, just like a actual lead guitar. Live music bass is not 'thump, thump, thump'! Try going to a small venue and hear some live music to educate your ears and palette!

Ok video, but really ruined by turning the BB3 off axis for the vast majority of the music playback. I assume you did this to show the movement of (one of) the passive radiator, but nobody needs to see that. You didn't turn the OS8 around to show the movement of its passive radiator on the back, becuase it doesn't matter. It's about the sound, and both of these are directional speakers, which mean they need to face the listener (or microphone) for optimal sound. Overall not bad, but I wish you had not turned the BB3, it would have been a MUCH better comparison.
I agree A.J. before i thought, its looks so flat and boring while both facing front while playing the speakers.. i thought i will look more interesting & realistic when twisted a little bit so they can see its really playing.. well i receive a little comments about that maybe its time to change something.
