I prefer Onyx Studio 8. The issue with too bassy speakers is that if the sound is not loud you cannot appreciate it. With Onyx, even with 30%, you hear everything at its best.
I believe that in order to evaluate the sound quality, the comparison should be done at the same volume. They have completely different power. If you just set 80% on both devices, boombox sounds significantly louder. Please add this kind of comparison to your tests
yeah, BB3 is louder , the bass is louder too, but for what ypu are paying for the OS8 you are getting much more refined audio, and overall clearer sounds , a loud bass is not better than a refined and clear bass.
Heavy bass is a must but doesnt mean its good overall, but with the price gap, i rather go 2 HKOS8 (stereo paired) instead of single BB3, for bigger sound stage and of course much heavy bass with this setup 😂

Yes! You'll love the sound a lot better in a close space when it comes to quality and balance. I cannot judge your tolerance to loudness bcoz cars usually have bigger speakers.. so loudness maybe a question.

It's difficult to tell but the Onyx 8 seems to have richer more balanced sound, where as the boombox 3 is a lot clearer and greater seperation, but costs more than double the price of teh Onyx 8
Since the price of bb3 equates almost to 2 os8, maybe you can do comparison between 1 bb3 vs 2 os8(link together) in the near future. Just a suggestion but i think more viewers are also gona like the idea. =)
Generally you're making good comparisons, but it's kinda strange you've tested BB3 with OS8 instead of GP3 in this video. This is the proper H/K competitor of the presented JBL here I think.
I just pulled the trigger on the Onyx 6 brand new right from Harmon Kardon for $100 bucks! I heard one at a mechanic shop that's about 80'X40'. I didnt even know what it was until I was told I could turn it down, because it was too loud! When I went to do to turn it down, and saw what I now know is an Onyx 6, I about crapped my pants! I could buy a 7 for $150 but why? The bad is I had already bought a new Sony receiver, Neumi BS5 speakers and a Elac 1010 subwoofer for my garage, when all I needed is an Onyx 6 on sale! I got good prices on the equipment through Amazon, but still spent $500 and needed to install wall mounts, run wires and find a place for a subwoofer. We also bought two JBL Charge 5's last week! So many choices out there. Would love to experience the Boombox 3, but the Onyx was a cheaper solution.
The tech specs are when the speakers are played on battery mode or AC mode? I've been with HK Onxy Studio speakers up to their 6 but, I would go with JBL for their higher output range and better portable/carry design. I would attach neck strap to JBL handlebar and wear it when on my Segway Ninebot S. HK Onxy Studio 8 design is horrible for carrying or wearing portability. JBL speaker battery mode always surpasses HK Onxy Studio battery mode by twice as much play time at full volume. I would usually have portable speaker connected to portable power tool battery power inverter anyway to get the best full range sound out of them over their battery mode and just replace drained power tool battery with a charged one to keep speaker going on the move and away from power outlets.
I'm more of a bass head so I'll take the bb3 any day of the week.... But the onyx 8 does have great sounding highes and mids.... But the bb3 still wins in the end... Good job JBL😎💯
I have the OS8 and that thing sounds so loud even at 50% also has to do with the quality input. its so clear and refined, my Roomate has the JBL and yeah its bass is def punchier but sounds terrible with anything else.

Try getting into classic rock! All original analog recordings; many remastered to high res lossless. Bass is supposed to be musical, with a range if notes, just like a actual lead guitar. Live music bass is not 'thump, thump, thump'! Try going to a small venue and hear some live music to educate your ears and palette!

Ok video, but really ruined by turning the BB3 off axis for the vast majority of the music playback. I assume you did this to show the movement of (one of) the passive radiator, but nobody needs to see that. You didn't turn the OS8 around to show the movement of its passive radiator on the back, becuase it doesn't matter. It's about the sound, and both of these are directional speakers, which mean they need to face the listener (or microphone) for optimal sound. Overall not bad, but I wish you had not turned the BB3, it would have been a MUCH better comparison.
I agree A.J. before i thought, its looks so flat and boring while both facing front while playing the speakers.. i thought i will look more interesting & realistic when twisted a little bit so they can see its really playing.. well i receive a little comments about that maybe its time to change something. Jbl sounds more clear/open and has more soundstage, while the HK spreads the sound out in a circle and sounds balanced.
listened to the whole Audio with Headset,The Boombox 3 is the best Choice.
In my ears it seems that speakers are at a different level and it's hard to compare the quality of the sound.Other than that good comparison.
