Could we be each others therapists? BC i believe all you(I) need is a friend. That is what Louis said, i had a friend that told me what i needed to hear. Is anyone here that got no friends and would like to change that?
If somebody broke their arm and you told them all you need is a good friend, we would look at that person like they had three heads. But when it comes to mental health, all you need is a good friend. I find this very interesting. We really do place zero value on mental health as a society. And then wonder why so many people are off the wall....
The problem with this, beyond that a lot of mental issues require professional training to handle appropriately (e.g. BPD and schizophrenia), is that it's a massive burden we'd all be placing on each other. The mental toll would be substantial on most people, making the problem ultimately no better. We aren't going to solve this with bootstraps, we need to fundamentally rethink how we've structured our society to isolate us from community support.
@@rossmanngroup well. I sort of clarified that "I" need that. And im quite interested if anyone else thinks that. Ive been alone my whole life and i have read a lot of stuff. And i would love to share it and maybe there is someone who wants to do that as well. Actually this is exactly what Louis is doing. He got something to share? And here we are - listening. Ive watched so many of your videos and i feel less alone now. But i wanna be less alone, not just feel. I remember the video when Louis told us about a guy that moved to the us and lived in a basement. But he didnt tell us how he got into the country. Im from hell. And its quite unpleasant here.
Ya know what, Louis? I have followed you for years. You have wished me a great day and taught me something every time. I hope *_YOU_* have a great day, stud. Thanks for always fighting for the users.
@@rossmanngroupnew subscriber here. Love your work exposing companies. One thing I will say about trying different therapists, which I have done (5 and I’m your age), is that it can be very demoralising. It really does depend on where you are mentally whether you’re able to seek out other options or not. It’s not as easy as saying you care more about other things. Just my two cents. Thanks for flagging better help as trash as well. Too many people here advertise for them. It’s like hello fresh and their anti union moves and dodgy practices.
Wow.. This was a wake up call I didn't see coming. I spent 3 years with the same therapist who got me nowhere and keeps convincing me that "we need to work on me some more". I just cancelled all our future sessions and will be changing to someone else.
Ultimately You are the one deciding where you are how you feel and what you should be doing A therapist should not tell you any of that (unless you meet one of the really specific criteria where they should) do not hesitate to switch often or even stop if you feel good enough The one time I went to therapy (as a child) my therapist advised me to stop because I said I didn't feel like more session would be useful Not because I was fully fine but because I considered the rest of the way would just need time
It can make a MASSIVE difference. I had a counseling session with someone in college and I instantly felt judged and uncomfortable. I went with a different counselor and had absolutely amazing sessions. Therapists are like anyone you know. You can have chemistry with them or not, you can trust them or not, you can feel safe with them or not. Good for you!
I've been watching RUclips content for 10+ years. I would've never thought that a Macbook repair guy would be my favorite RUclipsr in just a couple of months. Thanks Louis.
Therapy is hard work. Most of the work is done outside of the therapy session. Changing one's habits, perspectives and life approaches can be excruciating especially if you are struggling. Much like anything in life worth doing, it won't be easy. With the right therapist and genuine commitment, it is one of the best investments you can make for your life.
I stumbled upon this, RUclips, knowing nothing about repairs right to repair ownership. I come here for every video, because Louis is such a great guy. He feels selfless and he feels genuine and that’s just a breath of fresh air and todays space
Yup! I'm deep in the tech trenches, so I originally came here for update on the latest drama because a title caught my yes.... but I stayed for Louis' personality and take on life.
"Don't trust me, use your own brain." That's what I love about you, Mr. Rossman. A top bloke who's integrity isn't for sale. You're such a gem. Keep up the good fight brother. 👊
I'm glad you mentioned better help. A few years ago, there was a scandal that caused all of the "good" YT'ers to halt their sponsorships. Now all of a sudden everybody is accepting their sponsorships again. I kinda assumed there had been some kind of reckoning -- better help cleaned house or something -- but I hadn't heard anything about it.
funny that got hit with a ton of controversy then dropped out of existence for a few years and now there are some people sponsored by them again but no one bats an eye lol
Yeah, this is why I like Sseth's cancelled EstablishedTitles sponsorship segment, he basically admits he doesn't endorse any sponsored products and just takes the money so he can embarrass them with his game review choices. Sponsorships are money, that's it, never trust a youtuber's endorsement, even/especially if they claim to regularly use the product.
Coming from a mental health background, I can tell you quality of online therapists and client facing are really no different. You will get those who truly care and want to help, and others who just need to get thru a session to earn a commission. Its 100% correct you have to find the right synergy between 2 people. Whether its online or face to face, you'll know when the fit is right when you are comfortable and making some progress The other thing is, mental health is about self exploration. Talk therapy is meant for the patient to reveal things and explore thoughts, emotions, ideas, and make connections for their behavior. The old "use your brain" analogy. The therapist is merely a guide to ask the right questions to help you foster those "AHA!" moments. Lastly therapy, is not a quick panacea to your troubles. Someone wise once said, "It took you decades to form these unhealthy patterns of thoughts, it will take some time to reverse them"
What bothers me about therapy as a profession is, in the physical medical space there are different specialized professions. You've got heart specialists, feet specialists, doctors who dedicate them to teeth only, doctors who specialize in throat, nose and ears. And they are all labeled as their own field. If you've got ear problems, you don't go to a heart doctor, you go to an ear doctor. If you ask a heart doctor to look at your ear, they can do so, but they won't be able to help you much. Yet when it's about mental health, it's just "therapist". All specializations, be it relationship problems, learning disabilities, post-traumatic stress, or depression, they are all just called "therapist" without distinction. Shouldn't therapists also be split into different specializations like the physical side of the medical profession is like?
I've gone to a therapist for a few years now, my life has really improved, much more value was added compared to what I paid. I doubt I would get along with my therapist in the outside world, but I think he has been helpful. He doesn't talk a lot, rarely gives me "advice", he is really only there to listen and ask a question or two. In some ways, this makes me want to do stuff during the week so that I have things to talk about. I never went into this thinking that going to therapy would fix anything, in fact I went with the exact opposite viewpoint. My mother made me go to therapy, in fact she chose the therapist. When I started talking realised that I really did have a lot of issues...
a majority of the psych industry identify as communist/marxist by admission this is exactly who should NOT ever be allowed to be a psychiatrist psych has a fundamental problem they refuse to address
Gonna be real, this is exactly the pep talk my grandfather gives. Not everyone has that kind of person in their life, and it's neat hearing someone not far off from my own age being able to say these concepts coherently
@@VertietRyperhe kind of talks the way my uncle did before he gave in to cancer. I like it. It feels like that kind of person I thought I'd never hear from again and needed to just hear during a bad day had never really left. It certainly does the job and brings an smile to my face.
It's true because an angry man yelling at the camera doesn't have a $150 per hour financial incentive to blow smoke up your ass and just tells you how he sees it.
Thank you Louis! I am sorry to hear a family member committed suicide. Unfortunately I had a brother commit suicide..I am 53....this "event" occurred when I was 25....the brother was 28. Thank you for your honesty & caring....& willingness to share ! I think you fight a very very large "uphill battle"...& I am sure I speak for countless people when I say.....Keep Fighting!!!
I think the reason people give up after only visiting one therapist is because you're never guaranteed any positive results after spending so much time and money. We know someone like you can repair our Macbooks. We know a doctor can fix our broken leg. I don't like gambling thousands of dollars and tens of hours on something that may or may not work. If I buy something that doesn't work or I don't like, I can return it for a refund. It's not possible to tell a therapist that they're worthless or have traumatized you further and then demand a refund on your time and money.
As someone above mentioned, they interviewed with multiple therapists before actually committing to any sessions. While that may not always be possible, I think it's a great idea. If a therapist isn't willing to have an interview for the job, they may not be one you want to go to anyways.
TO BE FAIR, medical malpractise is very real and kills, so TECHNICALLY you're wrong on the doctor part. And unlike a bad repair job our body usually can't be sent to another mechanic to easily fix previous trauma
Hey Mate, " Hope Your Having a Great Day. " Long time subscriber, since the old shop vids. (not though here atm) Louis, It wasn't difficult from very early in the piece, to see who you were. There was simply no facade to navigate. Here I am years later still watching and listening through your challenges and mine. The sharing and complete honesty in this particular video shows how much of a true solid gentleman you are. I won't go on ..... We've both moved through a lot mate. I'm sure some you don't know you've touched. (levels that is mmk) Ok... Just a cheers to you Louis and looking forward to marching along with you through the next few chapters. If I politely can, you seem to be in a little flux (ha) of late and you're outstanding at it. Somebody finally said it about better help! You should also call out opera and opera gx ads next! What kind of "free" product pays for sponsorships? The kind where YOU are the product.
it gets better, they got caught somehow selling users health information to , apparently fb , then fb advertised content that would target those vulnerable users on there platform, where they targeted them with posts that would cause them to feel worse about themselves and cause themself self harm. always thought that BH was a data nightmare, having to share your personal issues with dozens of people till you find one you like? but all the others still get to keep your data! every 3rd party is now just a information selling company now, for example: the payment processor is selling your spending habits after you pay you local doctor, while the online portal for doctors patient info is also selling it. all the buisnesses dip
John Cleese speaks about some research that was done where the researcher interviewed professional people from all walks of life and all trades, from plumbers to university academics, medical doctors to farmers. I forget the exact numbers, but the point is that right across the board with all these professions they all stated much the same thing: There was a relatively small percentage of people in their own profession to whom they'd refer a friend or family member, with the vast majority of their colleagues being at best lazily ineffective, and then a larger minority being bad or unskilled or even dangerous. What's fascinating is that this would seem to be a universal perception regardless of profession, trade or vocation. Bottom line with therapies of all kinds, in my personal experience, is that you not only have to find someone with the requisite technical skills, training and clinical experience, that person ALSO has to be someone to whom you can relate. That means personal referral is just a starting point. If you find someone who you can do good work with one time in ten, you hit the jackpot. Not so different to plumbers, electricians, decorators etc. etc. when you think about it.
John Cleese co-wrote two books with a family therapist - "Families and How To Survive Them" and "Life and How to Survive It". I read them many years and recall especially liking the first one. That said, there have been important developments in psychotherapy since they were written...
I wonder what the skill distribution is among these professions. There's only a small number of people who are going to be at the top of their profession. Like there's only a small % of people who can become the best football players.
I had the exact same problem. I tried 1 therapist for about just over a year and it wasn’t working. And then a year later, I tried a handful of therapists, and finally clicked with one. And now I’ve been seeing him for over 4 years. He has really helped me so much! I wish I had seen this video back then. Thank you for putting this out there!
Louis, you helped me learn how to fix electronics and to date I've fixed three phones and a bluetooth speaker. You're a good man and you deserve to be happy.
At 6:48, I finally understand what you mean by “value yourself more than a broken MacBook”. Blew my mind… keep up the great vids. I always value your honesty and just tell it like it is approach.
I had no idea how much I needed to hear this therapy situation explained in such a way... Thank you, Louis. And especially thank your friend. She might have been harsh, but sometimes, it's good that we have someone who is willing to be honest.
You have a point. My doctor gave me anti depressors and it broke me, became more arrogant, easier to make angry, less empathic, bitter, in general bad stuff. The “therapist” told my parents that i should be thrown out of the house and i will heal. That was a straight insult to me. I live in Canada and our healthcare is a bit shit. To see a therapist here either wait for years or go private and burn ur wallet. Im on my own since then with my mental health. Because i do believe i cannot be fixed. My mind is a mess
@mightybing I've heard some with bipolar have luck with SSRIs but that if the first doesn't work others probably won't. I tried a few different ones and eventually found one that work but I have a different issue.
I've seen what psycho drugs do to people. I absolutely refuse to go on any of them mainly because it seems like doctors are just throwing things at the wall and see what sticks. I'd rather be [whatever the F I am] than have 17 new problems
My husband watching your videos is how I came to your channel. He's one of those infamous people that as soon as he's told or ascertained that something is an ad read he will fast forward through it if it's in the middle or end the video right there. When he gets home from work tonight and he's scrolling through his RUclips on the TV and he clicks on your video and it gets to the add read part I'm going to force him to sit and watch it. You hit that now so hard on the head that you drilled it all the way in with 1 hit. I can't pigeon hole your channel into one key hole but I find every video interesting and engaging regardless of topic. Keep up the good work, you rock. Oh and, safe travels to Texas I'm sure you'll enjoy living there!
I've been to multiple therapists and the current one I've been seeing for about 2 years now feeling I've made no progress whatsoever, despite her thinking I not only have, but also thinking we're a good fit. I had a session yesterday that left me very seriously considering just giving up on therapy by a certain date this month. I think I really needed to hear this and quite honestly wasn't expecting this to be the subject of the video. You've given me something to think about, thank you!
Been seeing a psych for about 3 years to work through a longstanding case of PTSD (30 odd years ago)... We've managed to work on the 'original' problem a couple of times over those 3 years... She's been able to help me work through all the intervening tragedies that popped up while we were expecting to get me to the point where the PTSD wasn't ruling my life. Your allusion to your self worth strikes a chord with me, I've worked myself into the ground in the past, for employers who'd have my job filled before my coffin was, but now I've found a boss who'll give me the time I need to get the services I need... And help my family if needed, when I'm away on a job. You're doing good work.
This spoke directly to me. I've tried different software modifications over the course of weeks to find which one works best for my device but I haven't tried different methods to try and fix my life. Thank you for this.
Mr Rossman you are nothing short of a treasured asset on youtube. I greatly value your honesty, and head-on approach in every regard. This includes being able to take harsh self-criticism. The TRUTH is that people can't handle the TRUTH - they get offended and end up taking the most round-about solution to their problems. You know what - fvck em. Light a cigar, pour a drink, watch them drown. It's not the duty or obligation of any person to spend time on any other person - ESPECIALLY if they don't want to take the time or effort on themselves.
Finding the right therapist when you are not doing well is so daunting. But you are absolutely right, and there have to be at least a handful of good ones out there. Thanks for the pep talk, glad you got the help you needed too.
This is a very interesting perspective on self worth. I have definitely made similar complaints about how therapy doesnt work for me, yet my sample size is so small. I cannot fathom how in all my years of life I havn't come to this conclusion. Thank you.
Thank you, Louis. This was a really honest and necessary video for many and one that I know I personally needed to hear. The part towards the end about wanting an easy out for any kind of mental help ("doesn't work for me," "all therapists are shills," etc) is common and a thought process I've been through myself. The monetary value idea really makes you think about self-worth too, so many of us are willing to spend $1000s on electronics/cars/things in general that we like or want but won't spend $100s on self-improvement even when we have the means. It's challenging to go through the introspection and self-analysis when it isn't something you've been through before or when your self-esteem is at a low point, but you've made the decision that it's not important and you're going to ignore it. Read on the internet a while back: "Nothing gets better on its own. You either fix it or it stays fucked."
I never comment but i really enjoy these types of videos. Ive never really had someone to sit down and talk to me as if i was important or meant something and i really do honestly appreciate videos like this, please never change Louis.
I love that your encouraging therapy. Genuinely, truly think it’s amazing. Therapy can be life saving and life changing. There are different types of therapy, It takes a lot of work and different things to try and find a good therapist. I am so glad that your talking about this. Its so important. I truly think that you can make a huge difference in many peoples lives, especially men. Thank you for saying this, as someone who has struggled with my own mental health and dealt with chronic pain. I have always tried to ensure that people understand that we have to keep trying. That theres always a solution. I know that you always say that your not a good guy. This is a good thing to do and I appreciate it.
I think part of the issue is that people view therapists as a sort of "infallible professional". They don't think that someone who went to college could do any wrong nor could someone considered a "medical expert" ever slack on their job.
Finding the right therapist can be hard. I went to 4 before finding someone I click with. He helped me tremendously and was my therapist for 6 years before moving away
It depends upon what a person is dealing with if therapy will actually help. A lot of people are dealing with chronic health issues or depression caused by the environment they are in. People can go to numerous therapists and try all the positive thinking, mind exercises, and medication they want, but if the health issues and environment stay the same, the depression won't go away.
That’s very true. I think it’s important to know that there is time and place for getting a therapist. If someone was unaware of why they’re feeling depressed, a therapist could help them figure out what the root is. They can provide you with ideas/tools to then (hopefully) help yourself. They don’t fix your life for you, although I wish it was that easy. For me, I just started therapy again and appreciate the alternative perspective they’ve provided on recent bad situations I’ve had, or discuss upcoming decisions I’m feeling indecisive about. It’s especially helpful if you don’t have a good friend or family member to talk to when you need.
Not at all true. Sadness is a result of betrayed expectation. If you have no expectation, you can feel no sadness. Even if you are being beaten every night. Oh well. It's beatin' time again. What can ya do? You can not control your environment, but you can control your expectations. Seek a better life, but have no expectations. You decide what you want and what you need. Of course, most people aren't being beaten every night. Most people's problems are much tamer, and yet most people are much sadder than I was when I was being beaten every night. There came a point when I realized, happiness is what you make it. And now I'm not being beaten every night, but I'm not any happier.
@@collinhayes9509 Agreed. It depends. A therapist can be someone that you can bounce ideas off of in a safe environment. It can also just be someone to talk to if a person doesn't have friends and family that can listen to them talk about their struggles.
You’ve tried every dosage and manufacturer of every medication under the sun? Seems nearly impossible. Methylphenidate alone has like 10 delivery methods. I have chronic fatigue and I’m always tweaking things with my doctor and pharmacist. I’ve taken ssris that gave me amnesia or stimulants so strong I feel like a crackhead. But I didn’t give up until I found something helpful. I’ve done therapy that didn’t work, but I also did group therapy in high school and it was phenomenal. You can’t win always but you can lose every time.
I interviewed a few therapists before I found my current one, and I was upfront with each of them, and every one of them supported being interviewed as part of the normal process of being hired by me. Years ago, if I had not been willing to fire my therapist after a couple of sessions, life would be much worse. Therapy can help, but it take work, and part of that work is finding the right person.
The key here isn't value, it's belief. From my own experience of just existing in the world I can believe that someone who is paying enough money will eventually find a good employee if they iterate enough, but I think that many people have problems that just can't be solved by talk therapy or current meds and it's important to acknowledge that. I have friends who would greatly benefit from therapy because they're telling themselves some fundamental lie or they have some trauma that they just need to be talked through. I also have other friends that seem to clearly understand their issues and wouldn't really benefit from that kind of approach at all. The people in the second category tend to be pretty aware of that fact and in my opinion correctly believe that the methods you're laying out won't help them. That's why it's a hot button issue for a lot of people.
“There is nothing you’ve experienced that another human hasn’t and humanity is still here” helped me break out of that mindset, maybe it’ll help someone else here.
You are fortunate to have such a good friend who cared enough to risk upsetting you! And thank you for sharing your experience because it will help viewers.
i went through this a couple months ago, but with a slight twist. i had totaled up the costs and was about to pull the trigger on therapy... ... and then a new 3d printer came out which was about the same price as what therapy would have cost for about 2 sessions. realistically, the only thing in my life that could have been handled in therapy would be my relationship with one family member. and that wouldn't even be guaranteed. So it's not like I value myself less than a 3d printer. I just value the other person less than a 3d printer.
Not exactly a therapist but I've been seeing a Psychologist regarding my medication every 1-3 months via call. Maybe 3 or 4 months down the road he unintentionally made me realize that I am nowhere near as antisocial as I thought I was and that I can easily make friends with a lot of people. Not all at once but yeah. I've never been a fan of looking for therapy online so I'm glad I avoided that worse help nonsense. Their ads annoyed me too much. Don't have therapy sessions on the Internet folks. Unless your therapist is willing to have sessions held on Discord or something.
I think part of the issue is that "Mental Health" is not valued in society. We do not promote it. We don't care about peoples problems. This is a side effect of us all being part of the peasantry class. A class of people who work our asses off to get nowhere, but are none the less part of the machine of the economy. A cog in the wheel, if you will. If there is one thing people do value it is shiny things. Shiny things that companies shit out with the ethos of value. Which is why we end up valuing those shiny things beyond ourselves. The prevailing message out there, subtly, is that people have no value, THINGS have value. So here we are. Everyone struggles, nobody cares. But hey new shiny! Beware of these things as they consume us all slowly. We all have value, but I think the powers that be will never promote this because the recognition of value in people is among people, not corporations or government. To them, we are simply tools or assets. Line items. So put your value in people, not things is what i'm saying, and we might see each others mental health improve because at some point we might actually give a shit about each others problems. /Rant. You ARE valued, you are loved. But it's people who can do that for you. A macbook, and by extention, a corporation cannot love you back.
Value is a man-made invention. Nothing, including people, have any. Everyone and everything is priceless; we put a value on it and infinitely undermine its significance.
Out of 12 therapists. Only 3 worked for me. I’ve been with my current one for a year and winding down to monthly sessions soon. Take the time for yourself and find someone who works for what you need, took me 10 years to figure that out.
I believe you are wrong. You don't value a MacBook more than yourself. You value your customers more than yourself. Take care of yourself, but it's not as bad as you think.
did betterhelp pay you? that was probably my favorite sponsorship segment to date. i was already holding control and my finger was over w when you pulled that reverse uno card.
As someone who's seen roughly half a dozen therapists over the course of my life I can say therapist shopping is exhausting, but if you can find the one good one that actually helps you it's worth it. Me personally, I ended up dropping all therapists about 5 years ago when the one that I had built a connection with gave some advice that was actually detrimental to my mental health and future happiness. I knew beyond a doubt that the advice she was giving me was wrong, so I left, did the thing she was actively discouraging me not to do, and I have been off all anxiety medications and have been happier and healthier ever since. ( for those who are wondering the things she was discouraging me from doing was having kids, I'd been 9 years married at the time and was more than ready to, but she for whatever reason though it would be bad for me. She was dead wrong.)
I suspect she saw kids as something that would reduce your budget for expenses like therapy. Good for you making the right decision and becoming better in the process!
These days people villify having kids. It's really odd. Some people even think its problematic for the climate because of overpopulation and are convicted and anxious about kids. I could see a therapist pushing that agenda if they believe it under the guise of something else.
@@leonfire99 Naturally you don't need a therapist to tell you to stop having kids. It just kinda trends that highly developed countries will eventually have birth rate declines due to... something something im not smart enough to understand. No need to push people in that direction, it'll happen on its own.
I hate AltStore frfr for submitting to Apple instead of fighting for an actually open platform. Only reason I use SideStore instead, just out of spite for those knuckleheads.
@@TechSavy-je4tpThe regulators are kind of irrelevant, I'd say that it was spit in the face of customers who will have to pay out of their pocket for huge hidden fees for the "side loading" to work. Cause even the free apps won't be free for developers.
There are also the people who don't have the $70 or $150/hr to spare for shopping around. Maybe if therapists gave a free 1 hour consultation to see if they're the right fit? (And then there was the one family member who would go to marriage counseling, not do the "homework," not do the introspection, and then would just give up.
Louis clearly stated that IF you had the spare income/money to shop around for the perfect car or the perfect employee, you would have money to do the same for the right therapist.
I was not expecting this video based on the title. I thought it would’ve been an interesting topic, but not as deep as it ended up being. This was a pleasant surprise. I’m someone that had a very traumatic childhood and just started therapy for it. Going into it I felt hopeless, “how can this help?” And honestly, I still have those thoughts, but even after a short period I’m seeing the benefits of it. What I can say, as someone who thought I will eventually get over the trauma, move on, etc. Things won’t change, and you won’t improve without putting the effort into it. Also, keep in mind you’re not only effecting yourself, you’re impacting those around you too. Your significant other, friends, family and coworkers.
I really like your message about not giving up on yourself. But it’s also worth acknowledging that trying multiple therapists isn’t always easy, or sometimes even possible. I know in many places, it can take weeks of calling to find a therapist with openings for new patients, and/or months of waiting for an available appointment. Especially if your own schedule isn’t particularly flexible. And then there’s insurance coverage (or lack thereof). I still agree that if your therapist isn’t helping you, and you _can_ try a different therapist, you should! And that deciding talk therapy as a whole is useless (or at least useless for you) after trying just one therapist is silly. But it might not be as simple as “just do it”.
@Don_Coyote Do you mean that TED Talks are bad or good? I'm having trouble following. I would have thought a TED talk would be good because it would promote the right to repair... and Louis is a lobbyist for that effort. Seems like a good fit to me.
@@danielstellmon5330 If it brought the idea of right to repair to a broader audience, I can't understand why not use the TED talk format. Is there anything specific about TED talks that you don't support?
I appreciate this video. You made a great point that was meaningful to me. I also appreciate you not shilling ball shavers, sh1tty cereal, VPN services, or any of this other crap that you know is garbage. Not recommending everything means to me, when you do actually recommend something it may have some actual value. I commend you for not being a scumbag.
you hit the nail on the head with this one. people will forever find excuses not to go to therapy until recognizing that it is fundamentaly a self worth problem. also that friend who told you to value your mental health more seems amazing. i hope you're still with them.
I think there's moral problems with the mental health treatment system within which therapists operate. I'm still able to get something valuable out of therapy, but that's partly despite the structures that exist rather than because of them.
Same, I don't want to get into it today but some therapists seem to have dark psychology themselves. There are many different ways to invest in mental and other types of health fortunately
I'm looking at five smart phones on the coffee table right now. I didn't even sell them because I don't want that feeling of bad decision making. And I haven't tried a single therapist because I don't want that feeling of paying someone to doodle or ask me how it makes me feel. So yeah, I think I'm in agreement here.
I agree also a lot of therapy is self work, the therapist just ask u questions and gives u suggestions (if they are a good therapist) everything else is up to u, most people can improve a lot on their own before even going to therapy or even without going
I got a 2014 Mac Mini for cheap and it runs Ubuntu very well. I’m considering repurposing it as a “headless” server for some purpose, or maybe a media server, or maybe a kick ass emulation box. Or maybe all of the above?
I do appreciate how clear, articulate, direct, and with a quick-paced (but not rushed) your manner of speach is. Many others, autistic or not, should take some notes from you in communication.
I guess I was blessed by God the one time I needed to see a psychologist/therapist for help. I was severly depressed and had deathly thoughts from 2008-2009. The biggest thing that started my escaping it was confessing to my mom what I was struggling with, and talking with her regularly. Those who need therapy should really considering telling their problems to family or friends. She told/begged me to see someone, I finally did, and it was as though God spoke through him during the third session to me, and the darkness around me just disappeared. I didn't go back after that time, because at the time I was worried he would say something that would make me dwell on it, and fall back. Instead, I got plugged into a couple of fellowships groups outside of my church denomination, per his advice, and that social connection was like a night and day difference ever since. I'm obviously in the minority to be miraculously helped like that, but I would agree that finding the right person is probably what matters. Again, that right person might also be your mom or dad. I made sure it was someone with good recommendations that had similar religous views before my first visit, and I didn't worry about cost, because I wanted serious help.
I've been to more than seven therapists/counselors and I've lost counts of alternative "healers" "shaman" and such and while your friend's sentiment I can understand to some degree, the reality is: there are a LOT of charlatans in the so-called medical industrial complex. Whether they are MDs with malpractice insurance or PsyDs with obscenely high hourly billable rates, I think that repairing things is possible, but healing? To me, the jury is still out and I have not had proof in that pudding.
it goes deeper.. in order to get certified u have to ho through a school process.. and truthfully be told. some things are haevily debated in the industry, but ignoring that and also pretending it isnt a thing and then on top of that spewing fake news at the persons through the school system, not many persons are like gabor mate.. they dont try to unlearn the shit... and just in depression alone ... the overuse of substance and the denial of different methodes... thats the issue... its a broken way to evaluate whos good and whos not and also teaches bad habbits on from my experiance, mostly overly optimistic, and lets not forget, onesidedly thinking persons... if u are a hammer, everything is a nail... of corse u can find a good one.. but, look at it, look around, and be real.. almost all of it is a scam buying different kinds of books is cheeper and better

@MichaelDustter - Bought one Apple product in 1987: The Apple IIGS (a 16-bit Apple II, evolved from the 1977 original computer). Apple neglected it, wouldn't support it and crippled it for petty political reasons. That was the first and LAST Apple product I ever bought, never will buy another one of their products again.
@MichaelDustter - I forgot to mention another important key point. That one Apple product cost me just under CDN$4,000 (IIGS computer with RGB display, dual floppy drives, printer and 768K of RAM; yeah--NO hardisk, NO stereo audio jack, and 256K RAM when it supported 8 MB!). That's what, over $10K in today's dollars? Even back then Apple products were overpriced, crippled on purpose and support soon dropped to push their next big thing.

Hearted your comment for changing to someone else rather than giving up entirely.
Ultimately You are the one deciding where you are how you feel and what you should be doing
A therapist should not tell you any of that (unless you meet one of the really specific criteria where they should)
do not hesitate to switch often or even stop if you feel good enough
The one time I went to therapy (as a child) my therapist advised me to stop because I said I didn't feel like more session would be useful
Not because I was fully fine but because I considered the rest of the way would just need time
It is not uncommon to “grow” out of a therapist… good on you for recognizing when it was time to change.
@@dariusfadavi7188 or it was never the right one in the first place, finding the right therapist for you is a journey
It can make a MASSIVE difference. I had a counseling session with someone in college and I instantly felt judged and uncomfortable. That is a powerful thing that once understood changes lives.
If only people understood that this is the same for politicians, whatever their party is
At this point, I’m starting to look at celebrities and RUclipsrs as wannabe Internet politicians.
How did it change your life?
Yeah, this is why I like Sseth's cancelled EstablishedTitles sponsorship segment, he basically admits he doesn't endorse any sponsored products and just takes the money so he can embarrass them with his game review choices.
Sponsorships are money, that's it, never trust a youtuber's endorsement, even/especially if they claim to regularly use the product.
I mean you are irrelevant to Joe Blow too though?
Coming from a mental health background, I can tell you quality of online therapists and client facing are really no different. You will get those who truly care and want to help, and others who just need to get thru a session to earn a commission. Its 100% correct you have to find the right synergy between 2 people. Whether its online or face to face, you'll know when the fit is right when you are comfortable and making some progress
The other thing is, mental health is about self exploration.
@@amylorileywell, they are. for example, “relationship therapist” is literally just a relationship therapist

That's a very keen observation. It satisfies my inner pessimist. Comedians would make the best therapists.
John Cleese co-wrote two books with a family therapist - "Families and How To Survive Them" and "Life and How to Survive It". I read them many years and recall especially liking the first one. That said, there have been important developments in psychotherapy since they were written...
Yup, you have to get the combo ethics plus sympathy/empathy right.
I wonder what the skill distribution is among these professions. There's only a small number of people who are going to be at the top of their profession. Like there's only a small % of people who can become the best football players.

It's not always a case of being unwilling to try. It's that I legitimately believe I can not survive another therapist like my last one
I think sometimes people's worldview is also the issue and if they dont find a therapist who can challenge that then theyll never get help.
Good of you to address this publicly. It is a great support for those affected to hear this from others.
keep up exposing these manipulative greedy corporate companies and their monopoly and bad practices
This video was indeed a free therapy session. Well done and thank you, Louis. Keep up the good work.
3D printer for life. Much better than people and occasionally less hard work.
A macbook, and by extention, a corporation cannot love you back.
good comment
Terrible life. It's Terrible
Value is a man-made invention. Nothing, including people, have any. Everyone and everything is priceless; we put a value on it and infinitely undermine its significance.
I think a major part of it is that everyone says “go see a therapist” instead of “I need to be nicer and more helpful to my family members”.
@@tranquilpowerhouseValue is an item’s significance relative to another thing. Stop with the semantics.
Such a heart-felt message. I can tell you really care about your followers. God bless.
Out of 12 therapists. Only 3 worked for me. I’ve been with my current one for a year and winding down to monthly sessions soon.
Take the time for yourself and find someone who works for what you need, took me 10 years to figure that out.
Same stuff with gyms, dieting, education, etc. Don't settle for the first choice and try to look for the best one for you.
I believe you are wrong.
You don't value a MacBook more than yourself. You value your customers more than yourself.
Take care of yourself, but it's not as bad as you think.
That is much nicer way to look at it. Also true.
Value your employees and yourself, as well as your customers.
I was thinking kinda the same thing, that he values the service he provides to his customers more, which is commendable.
Totally agree. And its scary, how deep is Apple in his brain, that he wont realize that.
Yeah but the mac book line did a better job at bringing the point across
did betterhelp pay you? that was probably my favorite sponsorship segment to date. i was already holding control and my finger was over w when you pulled that reverse uno card.
Thank you for showing up in the right time ❤
Great video Louis. It’s so worth it to go through a bunch of crappy therapists to find a good one. Thank you for not accepting just any sponsors!
@@DUKEzors if what you're saying is true, then it's shameless af of her.
@@leonfire99 People really think that adding another human to a world of more than 8 billion will have an impact.
@@leonfire99 Naturally you don't need a therapist to tell you to stop having kids. It just kinda trends that highly developed countries will eventually have birth rate declines due to... something something im not smart enough to understand. No need to push people in that direction, it'll happen on its own.
Dude, you gotta make a video about Apple's so-called "sideloading." 🤣
I call it a spit in the face. EU needs to review the law hard.
What's the news? Their interpretation of the EU law was a troll on the regulators?
@@TechSavy-je4tp Now you don't mean you've expected anything other from them, do you?
I hate AltStore frfr for submitting to Apple instead of fighting for an actually open platform. Only reason I use SideStore instead, just out of spite for those knuckleheads.
@@TechSavy-je4tpThe regulators are kind of irrelevant, I'd say that it was spit in the face of customers who will have to pay out of their pocket for huge hidden fees for the "side loading" to work. Cause even the free apps won't be free for developers.
There should be a term like ''Louispilled'' for complete logical honesty
Thank you Louis. I have seen so many RUclips ads for Better Help and thought of contacting them. Know I’m thinking of contacting someone local to me.
Long time viewer. I'm a therapist in education and this has to been on of the best points made about the topic. Thank you!
There are also the people who don't have the $70 or $150/hr to spare for shopping around. Maybe if therapists gave a free 1 hour consultation to see if they're the right fit?
(And then there was the one family member who would go to marriage counseling, not do the "homework," not do the introspection, and then would just give up.
yup not everyone is on his income bracket to afford one.
For real. Lol most people can barely scrap up rent. Therapist? What?
Louis clearly stated that IF you had the spare income/money to shop around for the perfect car or the perfect employee, you would have money to do the same for the right therapist.
That looks like a really comfortable setup you have there.
Thank you so much for your contributions to the internet and to society.
You should give a Ted Talk about the right to repair.
I support the idea, but I'm not sure i support TED talks.
I love Louis ... critical life advice and calling out BS at the same time. Perfectly balanced.
you hit the nail on the head with this one.
people will forever find excuses not to go to therapy until recognizing that it is fundamentaly a self worth problem.
also that friend who told you to value your mental health more seems amazing.
i hope you're still with them.
Love the sponsor segment, lol. This video was well thought out and very clear. Thanks for sending this message out.
Yes, of course.
(I have never owned a MacBook)
I think there's moral problems with the mental health treatment system within which therapists operate. I'm still able to get something valuable out of therapy, but that's partly despite the structures that exist rather than because of them.
Same, I don't want to get into it today but some therapists seem to have dark psychology themselves. There are many different ways to invest in mental and other types of health fortunately
You are a truly great person Louis, I've learned a lot watching your repair videos, and I needed to hear this. Thank you for sharing.
This video shows me how much far I need to go. Hits home and hits hard. Great job.
I wouldn't own a Macbook - broken, operational, free, or new.
I wouldn't own an Apple product
I don't hate Apple products. I hate Apple
I wouldn't mind having a free macbook but I'll never buy one.
stunning & brave
I got a 2014 Mac Mini for cheap and it runs Ubuntu very well. I’m considering repurposing it as a “headless” server for some purpose, or maybe a media server, or maybe a kick ass emulation box. Or maybe all of the above?
I would also reevaluate my life if I get told I value myself less than a Macbook. Good on you for having that friend, Louis.
I do appreciate how clear, articulate, direct, and with a quick-paced (but not rushed) your manner of speach is. Many others, autistic or not, should take some notes from you in communication.
I think this is your best video of all time. I hope sharing your experience helps others. It's actually very powerful. Thanks Louis.
To me, the jury is still out and I have not had proof in that pudding.
it goes deeper.. in order to get certified u have to ho through a school process.. and truthfully be told. some things are haevily debated in the industry, but ignoring that and also pretending it isnt a thing and then on top of that spewing fake news at the persons through the school system, not many persons are like gabor mate.. they dont try to unlearn the shit... and just in depression alone ... the overuse of substance and the denial of different methodes... thats the issue... its a broken way to evaluate whos good and whos not and also teaches bad habbits on from my experiance, mostly overly optimistic, and lets not forget, onesidedly thinking persons... if u are a hammer, everything is a nail... of corse u can find a good one.. but, look at it, look around, and be real.. almost all of it is a scam
buying different kinds of books is cheeper and better
As a trained therapist and someone who has spent time in therapy. Louis you nailed it well done. You need to find the right fit.
Thank you Mr. Rossman, for always having our backs and being willing to take the time to educate all of us on so many different and important topics. I really appreciate how genuine your concern is for your fellow human beings. Best wishes for your continued success in all ways. 💖
You have transformed me with your insight, I deeply thank you.
Losers gonna lose.
There is no helping some people, without their victimhood they have nothing.
I must be a narcissist because I value myself more than any MacBook in existence
Do you fix macbook for a living?
@MichaelDustter - I forgot to mention another important key point. That one Apple product cost me just under CDN$4,000 (IIGS computer with RGB display, dual floppy drives, printer and 768K of RAM; yeah--NO hardisk, NO stereo audio jack, and 256K RAM when it supported 8 MB!). That's what, over $10K in today's dollars? Even back then Apple products were overpriced, crippled on purpose and support soon dropped to push their next big thing.
