    My favourite Martini quite:
    “Listen, suppose you’re a thousand miles from any outpost of civilization. Your bearers have all deserted and you’re alone, surrounded by trackless jungle. So you sit down and start making a dry martini for yourself while you collect your wits - and that’s where the vermouth comes in. You just add a good shot of vermouth and from all over the jungle people will spring out at you shouting, ‘That’s no way to make a dry martini.’ And you’re rescued.”

    6:42 Bond ordered shaken exactly for that. So he drinks more ice/water vs alcohol as he is technically still at work 😅.

    100% agree that the way a person wants to drink their drink, is the way they get to drink it! (although I've heard that the drink Bond drank the most was a Scotch and Soda, which is not something I'd personally go for!)

    Bond's finest Martini moment is when he orders a Vesper in Casino Royale. It contains both gin and vodka as well as Kina Lillet (now Lillet Blanc). I prefer not just shaken, but vigorously shaken like your life depends on it.

      No he as it shaken because in the 1950s/60s in the finest casinos and bars in the world, ordering a martini shaken not stired was considered rather outrageous and it got people's attention. Bond wasn't to be seen and his bar drinks were theatre while his hotel room drinks showed he knew how to make a authentic drink, usually whisky based.

    My theory as to why James orders his martinis shaken is a similar reason why Van Halen would order a bowl of M&Ms with no brown pieces.

    You're quite right that it was with a twist, at least pretty often, and the doctor describes it as such, in Dr. No. There's at least one exception with olives, in Die Another Day, however, so that wouldn't be wrong either, if someone wanted their "James Bond Martini" with olives. Like you say, try to give the customer what they want.

    I bloody hate bartenders who stir with the other end of the spoon. As you said it correctly, when you stir with the 'spoony' end, the spoon is twisting, and there's a bloody well good reason for that. The little design going down, the tornado shaped spiral is there for a reason. It's meant to aerate the drink which is not going to happen if the spoon is not spinning, is it?

    • @tomdyercocktails5161
      @tomdyercocktails5161  2 года назад +6

      The reason for stirring a martini is to NOT put air into the drink, otherwise I would throw or shake. Plus if the twisty part does put air into the martini, which I am yet to find evidence of this, however it might. The difference in taste from using the spoon end of handle end will not be noticable by....anyone. So why make a job harder for yourself.
      At the end of the day, there is reasonings for everyones methods and I am always open to learning more to better my own knowledge, so please do let me know if you have any documentation about this that I can read up on. Thanks :)

    • @iainrobb2076
      @iainrobb2076 2 года назад +1

      The vermouth called Martini is named after the Martini and Rossi families. The cocktail was named after the Martinez, which seems to have originated in the city by that name in California. The Martinez gave birth not just to the Martini but also inspired the Manhattan, though the Manhattan uses rye or bourbon instead of gin.

    Martini and Rossi Vermouth? Seriously? Here is a little tidbit of information -- in a true Martini, the vermouth is actually more important than the Gin (and vodka is not a martini). Absolutely correct about not shaking. And if you are going to shake, double strain. But...Martini and Rossi is really better to use for...NOTHING. :)

      Bond only drinks the top half of his "shaken not stirred" ingesting only the highly diluted portion of his coctail (mostly ice), ergo, he doesn't get drunk during parties (which, for him, usually means "on the job"). When he wants to get drunk he drinks scotch soda. I highly recommend books over movies.

      Halloween Jack, Bond is an attention seeker and likes theatre.
      He orders his Martini that way in Casino Royle to get noticed.
      It was viewed as disrespectful to quality alcohol and people about him knew that.
