So when the kid in the back of the geometry class yelled out "Are we ever gonna use this stuff?" Now we know! Nice job, simple and very practical for those infrequent projects. Thanks again for sharing 😊

I have a HF engine hoist and it just sets there doing nothing for years. This is something I will have to do. I might make it a little heavier with angle iron just because I have some available. I could have used it several times over the years but would have never thought of it. Really simple and easy to make. Thanks for sharing it with us. Like how neat you keep your shop. That's something I just can't seem to do.

Great idea! Several years ago, I used my hoist to install light fixtures to the shop ceiling. The jig was made from a scrap 4x4 and three scrap pieces of 5/4 decking boards and worked just fine. I never once thought it could be another flat surface to stack stuff on!

I like the way you said @ Can’t remember.” when you couldn’t remember. You remember me of myself while I’m building something.
Great video. I constantly drop bolts too. Looking forward to more of your regular Joe videos. Thanks for posting. I’m a subscriber now.!

I'm "getting on", so it's dropping nuts that's the problem 😉😞

Wow this is awesome. I was looking into purchasing a manual lift truck to load my storage rack in my barn. But they are quite pricey. This would work perfect for lifting totes to the upper level. I love building stuff like this and may modify (beef it up) it slightly. And I have an engine hoist I don't used that often.

The more precision the fit of the bolts at the pivot points the more stable the whole rig gets.

Mike, nice job. I adapted my engine hoist the same way using 8’ 2x6’s bolted to the sides of the jib and 1x4 equalizers between the handles and a 4x4 post. With a 2’ sq. 1” thick plywood base plate. Use it to pick the canopy off my pickup by myself and set it on a pair of tall sawhorses. DT

Great video Mike, very creative. I've spent my career in the service department and never saw this tool with that "ability" in mind. Thank you.
One thing I noticed though, you neglected to bang your head at the 6:42 mark. It would have been much more authentic had you done that.

Great simple concept. I can imagine forklift or extended platform uses, great for material and hardware storage, even smaller implements.

Excellent idea! If your hydraulic ram ever goes out you could replace it with an Air over Hydraulic ram, then just let the air compressor do all the lifting ! No more pumping the jack 22,158 times.

    Handy add-on you built!
Have you given any thought to ways to stabilize across the platform? I think I could use this, but might have more unbalanced loads.
    Thanks!

  • @machscga6238

How do you Math this out so the platform stays level?

    • @firstmkb
      @firstmkb 8 месяцев назад

I didn’t understand this well until I tried to explain it three times. And drew sketches!
You have a parallelogram with two long sides and two short sides. Since the right short side is fixed to the rigid rear frame at two points, it is always at the same angle (maybe 15 degrees back from vertical or at 75 degrees from horizontal.)
The left (short) side is parallel to the right side, so always at the same 75 degrees from horizontal.
The platform is mounted to the left side of the parallelogram, but offset to 0 degrees (level). Since the left side stays at a constant angle, so does the platform - always level.
You could bolt the platform to the left short side at any angle you want - it doesn’t have to be level.

Mike you are late to the game, I did this some time back. I have an outdoor 2-post, and built one very similar to this which I use for a transmission jack under the lift. I can tilt the platform front to rear, and have used this now about 4 times to pull and re-install transmissions.
