  • Scarborough, Yorkshire.
A young boy is measured for a sea cadet uniform. "The ceremony of the colours" is performed. A group of cadets stand to attention and perform a drill as one boy plays a bugle and another raises a flag. C/U of boy playing bugle. The boys have lessons using model boats. They practice knotting and splicing and ("let us whisper" reads the Intertitle) cooking! They hoist a sail and learn the mysteries of the sextant. They learn Morse Code and signalling techniques. (Possibly Whitby Abbey in the background). They then swim in an outdoor pool on the sea front and practice rowing. "Jack" sets off for a career at sea with his bundle over his shoulder, the other boys wave their hats as he leaves.
    Was a Pathe Pictorial item.
Note: Well constructed film with some excellent shots and good titles.
